The Way It Is Now!

1. You accidentally enter your password on the microwave.

2. You haven't played Solitaire with real cards in years.

3. You have a list of 15 phone numbers to reach your family of 3.

4. You e-mail the person who works at the desk next to you.

5. Your reason for not staying in touch with friends and family is that they don't have e-mail addresses.

6. You pull up in your own driveway and use your cell phone to see if anyone is home to help you carry in the groceries.

7. Every commercial on television has a web site at the bottom of the screen.

8. Leaving the house without your cell phone, which you didn't have the first 20 or 30 (or 60) years of your life, is now a cause for panic and you turn around to go and get it.

10. You get up in the morning and go on line before getting your coffee.

11. You start tilting your head sideways to smile.  : )

12 You're reading this and nodding and laughing.

13. Even worse, you know exactly to whom you are going to forward this message.

14. You are too busy to notice there was no #9 on this list.

15. You actually scrolled back up to check that there wasn't#9 on this list AND NOW YOU ARE LAUGHING at           yourself.

How did we make it before these were invented?  My kids laugh at me when I tell them we didn't have all of this when I was growing us.  They give me a strange look and say "What did you do?"  Can you think of anything that use to be "must haves" that we no longer use or even think about?

Hey, I remember Jiffy Pop, but it was more of a novelty when I was growing up.

I try not to be such a slave to the tech-generation mentality, though.  When someone does something nice for me I still send a hand-written "Thank You" card, I have yet to send an e-card for anything (sorry, that's a lame cop-out, in my book), and since I think texting is the work of the devil (except for quick little messages) I refuse to get a full keyboard cell-phone/PDA.  If I have something to say to you, I will call you and actually speak to you.  I won't text paragraphs back and forth.
Although, I still do keep in touch with a lot of people via e-mail or instant messenger.    Have to compromise every now and then.

Hmm -- THE WAY IT IS NOW --- Tell you what it is to bad we do have all the conveniences of a modern world -- Poor kids nowadays depend on it; ever watch them try to give change back to ya?  Pretty sad sometimes especially when it is right on the dang register.  We should go back to the old days for lets say about 6 months or so and get a taste of real reality and get our acts together once and for all.  We take life and what it offers for granted and that only spells disaster later done the road for us and mainly for our kids

I had more freedom as a kid than any kid today could ever imagine.

I used to leave the house in the morning and come home for lunch and go out again until the street lights came on and there was no way to know where I was or any way to get in touch with me.

I did/have done everything on that list except for 11 (or 10, I don't know).

I'm guilty of most, the reason why I email my colleagues / business partner that's next to me, is when I need to send an important document or spreadsheet.

I can remember those days vividly too. I couldn't imagine ANYONE letting their kids do that today!?! It's kinda sad.

I like to call on the phone i hate texting. I love to write a letter its seems so more personal. I do however send emails as my friend Kerstin is in Sweden and John is a Marine...emails are faster if they both check them often enough. Also military addresses are often just too difficult specially when sending from down down under. John likes the chocolate from here and i have so much trouble getting it to him as i have sent it to Iraq and Afghanistan, this Christmas he is back home in the USA but still it takes military precision to get anything to him.

Yesterday something happened and there was no signal to use our cell phones for about   4 or 5 hours. I could see my student's panic faces trying to figure out what to do, and asking every 30 sces, Is the signal back? Is the signal back? I didn´t miss it too much, cos I don´t use the phone a lot, but it's amazing how dependable people have become of all those gadgets. In the other hand I also  heard comments from people that had a relaxing day without all those phone calls.
#22 | 1755 days ago

I'm glad we have some of this to keep in touch with friends and family - there are a lot of people I've gotten back in touch with due to facebook, but there's a lot of these that don't really apply to me. I don't panic if I forget my cell at home unless it's during work hours and I need to make sure there's a way to reach me. I still keep in touch via phone with most of my family - but I do text a lot too if what I need to say is short and sweet or I'm just not in the mood to talk (I don't really like talking on the phone). I have gotten up in the morning and logged on before getting my coffee...I do so daily (some days I don't even do coffee). I still play cards with others the old fashioned way but maybe not solitaire lol

Oh...and I don't recall ever entering my password or pin or anything into the microwave.

LOL I friggin loved Jiffy Pop - we use it when we go camping. It's not as tasty as I remember it being...either I've had WAY better popcorn to compare it to since I was a kid, or my tastes have changed.

Remember when your tv only had 8 or 9 channels with an antenna...and they were NO remotes.
Honestly, now I dont even want to stay at people's houses who have basic cable. I am totally spoiled....and who in the world wants to get up and change the tv manually. ugh!

My mom left her TV on all night because she could not find the remote.  I asked her the next day why did she push the off button on the TV.  Her reply was "Oh, I didn't think about it"!

Yeah, my TV has 2 remotes, like many people nowadays (one for the TV, one for the cable box).  I've somehow lost the control for the actual TV and I HATE having to actually get up to turn it on and adjust the volume.  Technology has made me uber-lazy, I admit it!

PS - before anyone mentions getting a Universal Remote, don't ... I've tried and I am so disgustingly NOT tech-savvy that I couldn't figure out how to program it and ended up chucking it in the dumpster the same night I bought it.

I still stay in touch with relatives with hand written letters w/o spell checker!
I still send snail mail Christmas cards, with little notes in them.
I still have a pop corn popper, and still make home made dough nuts!
Some things are still better with the old fashioned touches.

1. I still make Rice Krispie  and Toll House cookies the old fashioned way, not something you cut off a roll.
2.I still play Jax with my friends kids :)
3. Nothing ever takes the place of a hand written card, for whatever holiday, B-day etc.
4. The best party game ever is still Twister!

Great Poll Gina!

Wait, here's a better one I tell to my nieces, nephews and community children when they say there's nothing to do after I've played with them or taught  them something. I told them of our homemade phone, DIXIE cups with string! How about the time when all we had was string and five FINGERS? If we had a milk top and a small amount of tar, we played tops. One baskeball and no court? We would play KING. Want to know most people are getting sick more? How about the time when kids were aloud to play in dirt? We would never would get sick.

I remember the radio with valves slowly turning red, then voice coming on, before transistor and integreted circuits came in, have the circular dial type telephone, where one has to tell the 4 digit number to the operator at exchange, have the television with only five channels in balck and white, with only off  / on switch, have a cell phone with all modern tech, but still learning to use the web from my grand son.! Nostalgic.
