Vindogs PICK THE TEAM POLL *** PLAYOFF EDITION*** Cowboys - vs - Vikings, 1/17/10
On Saturday Night, the Cowboys proved to the NFL WORLD that they are for real and are a very good team by DOMINATING the Eagles once again. The Eagles, just 8 short days ago, were considered by many as the HOTTEST Team in the NFC (and the "sexy" pick to reach the Super Bowl for the NFC); and the Cowboys completely dismantled them two weeks in a row by a combined score of 58-14! Can they Cowboys keep up this relentless attack in Minnesota on Sunday on a well rested Vikings squad?  You make the call.......

Cowboys all the way on this one... They have worked to hard to give it up now... Farve is going to meet his match on Sunday.. And the Defense is going to be solid.. So Minnesota has never lost a game at home.. LOL, first time for everything, If you don't believe me just ask the Saints..  That was our turn around and nobody can stop the boys now.. WE ARE GOING TO THE SUPER BOWL.. Have waited to long for this season to happen and not gonna give up now... GO COWBOYS....RIDE THE VIKINGS TO THE GROUND. I think Roy Williams has found his catchers mitt and will be "on the ball" in this game... TEXAS PRIDE WILL SHINE AS BRIGHT AS THE BIG BLUE STAR IN THIS GAME... MY COWBOYS.....

The Vikings have this one.  The Eagles obviously didn't matchup well at all against the Cowboys, but the Vikings are well rested, at home, and have plenty of playmakers in all phases of the game that can get the job done.  Vikings 31, Cowboys 20.

The Vikes don't have the playmakers like the Eagles were suppose to have...they have Harvin, AP and Brett who has a 'FEAR of the STAR' like no other ever has.

Jenkins takes Rice out of the picture...Harvin roves around so I'm sure he'll do some damage but Newman is 'ballin' like he hasn't in some time so the passing game isn't what worries me, it's AP.  If they are able to establish the run and keep us off Brett, we've got problems.

The Vike's D hasn't ended like it started but Allen has to be contained or slowed down...I think we have the line to do it but they do stuff the middle pretty well and we can't expect them to sell out and blitz like the Eagles did and leave the DB's to try and stop our running game so Garrett is going to have to be smart and mix it up.  Keep them off balance.

Our WR's are better than there DB's...it's all about giving Romo some time.

LOS rules on boths sides of the ball.

Dallas wins.

These two teams are very similar in their make-up! BOTH have a great front 7 on Defense, great running games, and very explosive passing games. However, the Cowboys have a slight advantage on the Line of Scrimmage because the Vikings O-Line has had lots of trouble (at times) blocking for Favre- and this is the area that the Cowboys should exploit!  I expect a very exciting game from start to finish, but I think that Favre will make his (normal) 4Th quarter mistake that he has made in virtually EVERY big game he has played in the last 5 or so years and the Cowboys will take advantage of that mistake and go on to win  27-20!

Vin,How bout them Cowboys?
What we are seeing is a Cowboy team that is maturing and has figured out the level of intensity it takes to win in the NFL.I think Brookings and Romo have stepped up and become the much needed  team leaders that we have lacked in the past.No longer do you hear of the locker room bickering that took the life out of this team as in past seasons they play hard now and more importantly they play as a team. This Cowboy team is focused and it will show again Sunday.I look for the Cowboys to continue to use Felix Jones more and more I think this is more by design than by injury to Marion Barber.Look for the Cowboys Defense to frustrate Favre into mistakes. Cowboys 31 Vikings 24........oh yeah one more thing in the post game interview look for Favre to announce his retirement  How many times has he retired anyways?     GO.....COWBOYS

I totally agree with your comment on Peterson, stopping him is the key to winning the game for the Cowboys.I would feel much better if the Vikings are forced to rely on Favre's arm because sooner or later the guy is going to throw interceptions he always has,but the thought of Peterson running wild is scary............great post

Well, IMHO, Peterson is no more of a treat than ANY other RB the Cowboys Defense has faced all season. I don't believe the Cowboys gave up 100+ yards rushing to any one RB in any game this season either (I could be wrong- but I'm pretty sure of that)! The Vikings, in a way, run the same kind of Offense as the Chargers (and Cowboys) do, yet don't have the same "talent" at those positions either. Yes, the Cowboys lost to the Chargers, but it wasn't because the Chargers beat us on Offense either (the Cowboys actually had more passing and rushing yards) - it was because the Chargers Defense held on a 4Th and goal and Folk missed a field goal and the final score was 20-17!  I see the Cowboys dominating the Line of Scrimmage on both sides of the ball, and shutting down Peterson to make the Vikings a one dimensional team- and that is WHEN Favre normally makes his mistakes!

Your correct 97 yards is the most we have given up all year to a running back, I think the Cowboys will stop Peterson and make Favre throw to beat us.But I have to respectfully dis agree that  Peterson is no more of a threat than any running back we have faced. He will be the best runningback we have faced all year but i do think the Cowboys can and will hold him in check. This is not at all the same team that got beat by the Chargers this Cowboy defense is playing at a totally different level.I love how our team is playing right now one game at a time.I never thought I would say this but Wade Phillips is doing a pretty good job with this team.We are playing our best football at the perfect time.Vin this may be a fanatical statement but I cant see anyone keeping us from going to the Super Bowl.Hows that for a prediction?

I have to say that although the Vikings do have a solid offense, and a solid defense, Dallas will win this one. The Cowboys defense will put pressure on Favre, just like they have done all season. The Cowboys have a stellar run stop defense. The Dallas secondary gets a little better with each passing week. On the other hand you have the Vikings who have been on a down hill slope these past couple of weeks. You can say what you want about taking it easy because they knew they were in, but that's not the case. The starters were playing, they were trying to win, they didn't just take it easy. On top of that they didn't claim the division until like week 16 I believe, and the downhill decent had already begun at that point. Having said all of that, I have to pick Dallas to win this one. It will be hard fought, but they will be attacking the ball when AP has it, as fumbles have been a weakness for him. They will be hitting Brett Favre as often as they possibly can, and I believe they will win this one.

I realize everyone is being cautious with what's being said, which is a smart thing in such a sensitive area such as "Dallas Cowboys Playoff Run"...

But I tend to buck the system...this game will NOT be close.  We will whomp the Vikings on the prediction that we will maul Favre and keep Peterson from running amok.  There is a such thing as momentum, and the Cowboys have a piledriver behind them right now.  Don't count that Giants win on the last week as a sign from the Vikes - take that Chicago loss and disect it a bit and you will see flaws that the Cowboys will take advantage of, ESPECIALLY with the wide-outs.  Austin, Crayton, Ogletree, and yes, even Williams, are gonna exploit their secondary and that will open up the running game again for Jones and Choice...you might even see Barber come in to grind them out in the fourth.  Our defense will overwhelm them.

The way I see it...New Orleans, ya better bring your "A Game" to the SuperDome against Arizona, cuz we want the NFC Championship at OUR HOUSE!!

My feeling personally as a Vikings fan, the only way Dallas will win this game, is to put alot of pressure on Favre and stop Adrian Peterson.  You really need to watch out for Rice, Harvin, and nobody mentioned but Visanthe Shiancoe.  With a bye week last week, it will be really tough for a Dallas Cowboys team to come in and put away Minnesota in the Metrodome.  It will be a good game, but i think Vikings will have more points in the end.  They're just too good at home with all them weapons.  Another key to Dallas winning this game, is stopping Chester Taylor on 3rd down.  He currently is one of the top receiving backs in the NFL on 3rd down conversions. Brett is 0-3 lifetime against the Cowboys in the playoffs. The last three times he has faced the cowboys in the regular season he has lost (2 of which he didnt even finish the game) and I fail to see why the cowboys defense (which shut down the top scoring offense, highest passing yards and 2nd highest rushing yards of the Saints in the Superdome) cant beat the Vikings in the Metrodome.  Brett Favre seems to forget he has a great running back behind him when his team gets behind in a game and he is to predictable to be able to beat the cowboys defense with his arm. The Cowboys front 7 will be harrassing him all game long!

It's not that anyone has forgotten about Shiancoe, he just isn't one of the big keys to the game. If you shut down Farve and his big time recievers, the smaller routes by the TE don't hurt you as much. On top of that, the Dallas linebackers and safties have done an outstanding job against safeties this season. Last week Philadelphia's TE was completely shut out. I agree, I think it will be a good game. The game will not be decided by players such as Shiancoe, Taylor, or even Rice, Harvin, Austin, Williams, etc. It will be determined by turnovers. Who ever wins the turnover battle will win this game. That's why I pick Dallas. If you pressure Favre, he throws interceptions, you attack the ball enough on Peterson, he fumbles. Dallas doesn't seem to have as many likely suspects to cause turnovers as does Minnesota. Only time will tell though, in a game of this magnitude, with players of this calibur, it should be a great game to watch.
