New on DVD this week (Edited 01/29/10 05:24PM by JrCanuckFan)
My son is a huge Michael Jackson fan. He has all his songs on his mp3 and knows a lot of the dances from his songs that were popular long before he was born. I'm not one who normally goes to Wallyworld to pick up the newest releases, but his week, "This is it" came out on DVD and I was there, to purchase it on the first day, as per an IOU delivered at Christmas.
It got me to wondering if anyone else felt "compelled" to do the same, and if not, if there were any other release out this week you might have made a special trip to the store for.
New this week are:
Micheal Jackson's This is it
"This documentary offers a private glimpse into the final days of Michael Jackson as he developed, created and rehearsed for his 50 sold-out shows at London's O2 Arena. Drawn from more than 100 hours of behind-the-scenes footage chronicling the months from April through June 2009, this film was produced with the full support of the Michael Jackson estate. Featuring rare rehearsal footage, as well as interviews with collaborators and close friends, the film is the final portrait of a creative genius at work."
Whip It
"Ellen Page stars as a rebellious teenager who pursues her passion -- roller derby -- and discovers the meaning of true happiness in co-star Drew Barrymore's directorial debut. Bliss Cavendar is a small-town Texas teenager with a big dream: to find her own path in the world. Tired of following in her family's footsteps of compliance, conformity and beauty pageants, Bliss discovers a way to put her life on the fast track... literally. She lands a spot on a rough-and-tumble roller derby team and becomes "Babe Ruthless," the hottest thing on eight wheels."
Robot Conspiracy:
"Bruce Willis stars in a futuristic tale of splintered identity, treachery, murder... and robots. FBI agent Tom Greer lives in world where robotic surrogates -- picture perfect, real-life remote-controlled avatars -- stand in for people, enabling the population to experience life vicariously from the comfort and safety of their own homes. But when Greer is called in to investigate the mysterious murder of a college student, he discovers a vast conspiracy behind the surrogate phenomenon and must abandon his own surrogate, risking his life to unravel the mystery."
Saw VI
"More terrifying tension and invention in the latest chapter of the popular freak-out film series -- now the most profitable horror franchise, both theatrically and on DVD, in movie history. In this sixth installment, with Special Agent Strahm now dead, Detective Hoffman has emerged as the unchallenged successor to Jigsaw's twisted legacy. However, when the FBI draws closer to Hoffman, he is forced to set a deadly game into motion, and Jigasaw's terrifying grand scheme is finally understood."
It's quite a diverse group of releases, you could say "something for everyone" but is there anything in there you just can't live without?
Thanks to Yahoo for the movie descriptions.
