Something of a tangent, for me anyway.

I suppose someone would call me a Republican, since I more often than not, vote for Republicans in the choice of lesser evils. But I choose not to define myself as a Republican, because that word doesn't define who I am, what my opinions are, or what my morals and beliefs are.

I watch all of the news stations. Is Fox News biased? Absolutely. Is CNN and MSNBC biased? Absolutely. Anyone who thinks that one is biased, and the other isn't, is the "tard." Just like the policians market themselves to the group that they think will likely get them in office, the news networks market themselves to groups who they think will give them the most ratings. Fox News markets to the Republicans, and the other networks market themselves to the Democrats. All in the name of ratings and money. Any journalistic integrity went out the window ages ago. Neither is anymore "news" than the other.

If it were up to me, people would run for office without a label such as R or D, and have to actually give their own opinions, ideas, and run on their own merits, not on the merits of those before them who were members of their particular frat. I yearn for a day when people vote for people based off of their own intelligence, and beliefs and ideals, rather than just looking at whether or not a donkey or elephant is beside their name on the ballot. Thinking that either party cares more about the everyday person than the other, is just complete delusion.

Lastly, Nancy Pelosi and Sarah Palin can both get in a convertible, and drive off a cliff together if they want to make themselves useful.

I'm not using it at all, you are the one who mentioned black and white and said that it doesnt matter. In America, it matters and I'm not only talking about politics or just black and white. There are other races here and certain things will or wont happen for some based on Race. Have i been victimized by racial issues...not to the extent that it matters or i'm jaded so i never use it at all, but i'm not blind to what's going on in america either. Back to the issue, you're right you can't make everyone happy all of the time and the sooner american realize that in general, Congress included, the sooner they will be able to work toward the necessary goals collectively.

The current president  could have passed anything he wanted to.  He had the majority in the house and senate.  No the Dems didn't want to take the credit for ruining this country.  They wanted some  Repubs.  to vote with them so they could then blame them for what went wrong.    The problem i see with this poll is too many people are  answering and argueing when they are just not educated about what is going on in this country and more seriously what is going on in Washington.
well i do know whats going on. and i am neither dem or rep. What i do know is that WE dont know everything and we never will. the government is not set up for people not in Washington to know everything. It's impossible. And he had the majority in the house and senate to do what? what you and others wanted or what was best. I'm guessing their not the same thing or at least both will be a matter of opinion. It just depends on who you ask.

Oh..the title of this poll was very specific and there's a reason for that. it's basically for my liberal self and any others who wanted to talk smack about the items listed above.

What did I say that caused that "real American" to think I wear a turban (true spelling)? I came on what I thought was a thread for Libs, and said that there are some gullible people in the USA.

It is really funny that he had to question...what...my patriotism?...in order to attempt to make a point. I don't even know what point he was trying to make, except to try to slander me.

Typical in today's America...if you can't agree, so ahead and throw mud.

He made the "turbin"(sp) comment in a direct response to my earlier post.

I must be un-American, because I don't agree with "just say no" as a political strategy. I also think the Tea Party movement is, for the most part, racist. I didn't see these people demonstrating when GWB was giving away the national treasury to his wealthy friends.

Money is being spent now to try to fix what almost 30 years of Republican rule has brought about. De-regulation, turning the collective back on how business is run, over-compensation at the top of the corporate ladder, and no jobs at the bottom. For crying out loud, doesn't anybody remember that we were headed towards a depression when Obama took office?

I don't agree with Republican policy, my friends are out of work...I'm a real un-American.

BTW, if anybody starts a Con thread, I promise to read, but not to post.

I know it was not directed at me, but I answered to let you know that no, calling a movement racist is nothing close to a personal attack.  That's all.  If you think it's ignorant, that's fine, but don't assume it's a personal insult because you consider it ignorant.  Please understand the differences.

You know, I'd be much more willing to listen to conservative/Republican opinions if they were articulated with intelligence and concrete support. Unfortunately, there hasn't been an eloquent Republican speaker since Abraham Lincoln. To counteract this deficit, they contrived to bash intellectualism as the bastion of liberal dogma that's "wrong with this country"; ergo, it's now unpatriotic to be smart! OK, maybe I would concede them George Will... he did write a good book about baseball.

RABBLE RABBLE RABBLE RABBLE!!!!
#133 | 1189 days ago

I think most Democrats (note what they're actually called, NOT "lib-tards"), can agree that all media is biased in some way.  I know FOX News is the most conservatively-biased channel on TV.  I also know that CNN is FOX's polar opposite, and is very liberally-biased.  Anybody who tries to defend FOX News as being "fair and balanced" is only kidding themselves, and the same goes for someone who tries to make the same argument about CNN.  If Democrats agree that all media is biased, why would they need to respond to his comment?

The Tea Party movement is a fiscally conservative protest movement in the United States. It emerged in early 2009 partially in response to Barack Obama being voted in office.   According to USA Today, most protesters have the overall goal of pressuring the United States Congress and state governments to "reject Democratic government spending as a way out of the recession" and to "build an a Republican coalition of less taxes for the rich.". Aside from spending by the Obama administration, the paper stated that organizers were not pleased by former president George W. Bush's performance on spending either, but no one protested against Bush because he is a Republican.[10] Demonstrators opposed federal support for the ailing automobile industry as well.[11] Support for the Federal Reserve Transparency Act of 2009 is also an issue raised in the Tea Parties.

NO, I'm regurgitating TRUE TO LIFE personal U.S. Marine Corps experiences- something obviously that you have no clue about!  Torture IS NOT a joking matter and neither is watching your Buddy die in front of you fighting in a war that should have NEVER HAPPENED!  I can "take a joke" with the best of them- but this subject is no joking matter!   I am in a good mood, just sick of hearing people (who probably NEVER put on a Military Uniform) talk about subjects that they have NO CLUE about- that's all.

Btw, here is a description of my Former Job Title in the Marine Corps. I think this pretty much qualifies me as an "expert" on this subject: http://usmilitary.about.com/od/enlistedjo2/a/0231new.htm

1984- 1996 and " no forms" of torture EVER worked for me or any other Interrogator that I worked with- including the Ghosts! A prisoner will tell you anything you want to hear to make the pain stop.... Something that "uninformed" people do not understand! As far as MY personal "practices"- I'm sorry but I can't discuss those over a public website- but I will assure you that I got very good valuable Intell WITHOUT having to torture any prisoner!

Absolutely NOT! Those things are S.O.P. (standard operating procedures)... Neither is having a detainee stand in "stress positions" either (as long as those positions DON'T restrict blood flow or the ability to take in oxygen)... Pretty much "Torture" is any form of "punishment" that could be considered "extreme battery" in the eyes of OUR Laws!  Of course, being forced to watch Kazaam could be considered torture...      One of the main problems that happened in Gitmo and Abu Garib and "other" Miltary Detention Centers is that the MP's (Military Police) were being told to torture the prisoners by the OGA'S ( Ghosts- or Other Government Agencys that nobody KNEW who they were or who the represented) and these MP's (who have NO INTELLIGENCE training) started taking it to the extremes of torture!  These things NEVER happened during my term or in any facility that I was working in! The MP's job was the same job that a U.S. Prison Corrections Officer has: Guard the prisoners, escort them from place to place, make sure that they have their "basic needs" attended to, and NEVER lay a damn hand on them!

Geez, I hate these political discussions in sports groups.  We all are so passionate about our beliefs.  I know that my feelings and thoughts are right and I could tell you 500 reasons why liberal democrats are wrong.  Just like some of you who are passionate liberals will argue why you are right.  There are political groups that allow you to express your political feelings.  I wish we would stay on lighter subjects.  There are a bunch of great people in here of both persuasions.  Political discussions tend to slip into strong comments about individuals.

I would prefer dissing someone's team or a player on someone's team then getting into name calling.  I'm extremely passionate about my political beliefs and hope we all are.  And I hope we exercise that passion every time we have the opportunity to vote.  There are a lot of people in Washingtion that need to persue other careers and we hold the key to that.

Thank you for allowing me to express my thoughts on this.  Go Memphis Tigers

Also, if you think that those thing you listed were the ONLY things going on in Gitmo (or Abu Garib, etc)- sorry to tell you this but you have been severely misled.  Another thing, this thing you have been seeing on the "News" channels about what "water boarding" actually is- is NOT what water boarding actually is......    It is a hell of alot more than just putting a rag over someones face and pouring a little bit of water on it- LOL!   Too give a little insight on water boarding, just put your head under water until you cant hold your breath anymore, take in a few deep breaths while under the water and then stay there for about another 30 seconds or so!  My friend- that IS torture!

Well in the locker room the polls vary on a wide range of discussions.  And this is a political poll. And I know it seems to get heated and it does, but we really do leave it in here. We will all be in another poll in 5 minutes teasing and having fun with each other. We know a lot about each other the good, the bad, and the ugly.  And if it isn't your cup of tea, believe me we understand. And you are always free to express your thoughts. And I agree with you on voting.

Third parties haven't gained any real traction since the Civil War, but I wouldn't say it's impossible. There is definitely room for a moderate party that fits within the widening gulf between the big two. But they need to be well-established as a party first before running major candidates. Back in 1992 Americans knew who Ross Perot was and many liked him, a substantial minority even voted for him; but very few knew about the Reform Party, whose candidate he was, and I think that negated his real chances.

People use the labels as if they are synonymous. Conservative = Republican, Liberal = Democrat. Though there may be strong correlation in cases, they're not the same. One is a party affiliation, the other a statement of ideals. I believe in "conserving" the Constitution. This means supporting things like free speech (even when it's hateful to most) and separation of church and state.

My problem with most who call themselves "conservative" or "Republican" is inconsistency.

You can't say the government shouldn't interfere in individual citizens' lives, and then say the government can tell a woman what to do with her body; or tell a doctor that he can't terminate life support for a brain-dead patient when the patient had previously requested such but her family now says no.

You can't be anti-abortion and pro-death penalty, if you're going to preach about the sanctity of life and how it's not the government's place to decide who lives and dies.

If you champion the rights and freedoms of the individual citizen, you can't spy on what he checks out at the local library or searches for online.

The list goes on...

So far as I can see, only Libertarians are true conservatives. Republicans are as conservative as the lobbyists need them to be. The same is just as true on the other side for Democrats.

It's ridiculous either way.  I just wish that folks would start looking at my (and everyone else's) worth as individuals.  I'm putting myself through a master's degree program in sports admin on less than $25,000/yr....while supporting myself.  While most of the guys I have class with respect me (or at least keep their mouths shut), i find it totally crap to have to listen to their sexist s**t.  What they don't know is that they are fueling my determination to be better and do better  than them.  So maybe I should just thank them and go about my business.  In the meantime, though, I sure as hell am pretty worn out!!!!

That sounds like one of the colleges I applied to.  I met with a counselor after I had applied, and she was very nice.  We were having a nice conversation about the school and the way they operate...until she asked me what religion I was.  I told her I was Roman Catholic, and she said very sarcastically "well you know this is a Presbyterian based college, and you have to attend our chapel services a certain number of times a semester."  I said "what's your point?  There's a Catholic church right across the street.  Why do I HAVE to go to YOUR services?  You can't stop me from going to MY church every week."  Ironically, that was the only school I applied to that sent me a rejection letter.  A friend of mine who, ended up at Gonzaga, also applied there and got put on the waiting list.  I never heard that he was officially accepted, and wouldn't you know it, he's also Catholic.

Well I am a 46 year old waitress. Who has lived through the days when bosses were allowed to grab our asses with no fear of anything happening to them. I am liberal in my social belief while having to live around a hugely dominated area of people who believe that we are not at all equal. I fight every day at the bigoted beliefs of the people i live around, reminding them daily that all are created equal in this country. I work hard not to better my life, but to better the lives of my daughters. I am judged harshly on my political beliefs, but my theory is this, if i pissed off a racist today or a person who doesn't believe that gays have the right to marry, then I've done my job. I think my point is we as women have had to overcome barriers. and we go further every year. so good luck and know it pays off in the end.

The Panthers are currently 3rd in the conference.  Of course, they weren't supposed to be as good as they've been.  I also wouldn't say your team was conservative against them considering that's now 4 years in a row Pitt has beaten Syracuse.  Some teams just have your number.

Look please dont get me wrong. I am very very proud of my race.  And the accomplishments that white men and women have made to this country. But I know that this country was built on the back of immigrants, and well frankly more than that this country was built on the backs of slaves. There is so much history in this country that we are just learning about when it comes to the  African American story. All I want to see is when the we as Americans truly ALL believe that there is only one race and that is the human race. And I believe with each generation we get closer.

ok guys. i speak a little ewok! so to answer your question wigglesworth: and this is only in reference the Q(or F*ck, whichever),  Liberals tend to like gays and gay marriage, and are pro-stuff that is none of our business. Conservatives tend to appear anti all that. I'm almost a liberal if that helps but i am nothing like a conservative (most of the times, some sh*t i won't do though) get it.
