We have so many government hand outs for people here that those who dont work cant decide if they should go on a holiday  to rest from not working, keep watching their big screen TV, wash their flash cars or just spend the day at pub. They can often be better of than those of us working .
#11 | 1640 days ago

If I had the means and they were willing to accept my help, I'd do everything in my power to help them.

Maybe you could cut down the tree and hope it lands on the bear dog and then feed the carcass to the snobbish kids next door.

I don't really have any neighbors, and when I do I seldom get to know them. I suppose if we were friends first I would, otherwise I would just suggest where to get help.

Once the trees out of the way, would it matter about him

or do you mean him bitching at you for cutting down his tree?

All of the above.  I'm lucky to live in a community where neighbors still help neighbors.

I live in the boonies.. and have only 2 neighbors. One is a 90 something nosy hag. All she does is sit in her rocker in front of her window knitting and watches my house like a hawk..The other is a 23 yr old single dad.. I help him out all the time with his 5 month old baby.
#21 | 1639 days ago

Exactly all of the above and this have done already in the pick recession time when 1 of my neighbor lost job and also a serious tragedy blew their rest of peace ...... a little support can change things from getting further worse ....

I'd help out if I could, but I hardly ever even SEE my neighbors, much less speak to them.  They'd probably sell their houses and be long gone before I even knew there was a problem.
#26 | 1639 days ago

I checked food but like most everyone I would give whatever they needed, I love my neighbors! On a side note; I was the unemployed neighbor, for about 12hrs and my neighbor / friend gave me job and saved the day! Shout to my boy Brandon- you are a classy guy and a TRULY GOOD person!

Whatever the neighbor was in need of, clothes, food, money, or just someone to vent to......I'm ready to lend a hand.  Unlike the Wilde quote of "good fences make good neighbors", if someone was in need, I'd help!

I have good nieghbors and have helped them before. I learned along time ago "love thy nieghbor and love the lord thy God", if you practice one the other comes easy.   I would help them even if I didn't like them. If there was an all of the above option I would check that.

I have been out of work since May of 2007 so mental support is all I could give. Besides taking care of my Dad is like having a full time job.

I think maybe I'll give them some advice of a new job,or play with their children.I'd only give then mental support.

I'm lucky enough to live in an area of the country where I can't pick just one of those answers because where I come from the whole community gets together to help out when one of our own is in need.  I can't say for sure what would be done, but something would and you can bet I'd be there with the rest of the town/community doing my part.

My door has been open to homeless people since 1990. A few of them robbed my home and did other things to me but didn't deter my love for my fellow man/woman. Just yesterday I was helping someone. It's not about getting into heaven because you're suppose to have compassion for your fellow man/woman. It's about doing the right thing. You would feed your cat/dog/reptile...Why not a human being? Regardless the smell. You'd be surprised, you may get turned down. I remember one Thanksgiving, I was driving past a park and there was a older lady just staring into the sky and I was on my way nto visit a family member. I turned around, went home and gathered all the trimmings of a turkey dinner. I made sure it didn't spill in the car, walked it up to her with a smile and said "You will eat today and bless you". She turned to me and said "I didn't ask for that and I don't want it". Enough said.

I never have food in my house, so I will be of no help there. I am barely able to mentally support myself, there goes any assistance I could give. Most of my expendable money goes to my entertainment expenses, so probably not going to be of any use on that one either.

I live out in the boonies, with only a few neighbors, but we all have and will do whatever we can for each other.  I also have  friend who was in a very serious car accident and lost her arm.  She's very proud and will not accept charity, but I've put a few gift cards for the grocery stores in her mail box from time to time.  Anonymously of course, so as not to offend her pride, but she needed them, so she got them.

We have an elderly man that lives in front of us, sweetest man you will ever meet. I know he has to be at least in his eighties, he is always bringing us vegetables out of his garden. So I have often taken him something to eat. My other neighbors are so damn competitive, and nosey. We have went as far as to plant leyland cypress, so they will not be able to see what all goes on.

i would help them. If they have kids, i  would not let the kids go without. But......if the kids are going without, i whip my neighbors ass first!!!

That's cool LOL, I for myself help with food and money to someone who needs help but with regards to mental  support it depends upon the situation of the mental patient who needs my help.  I can't help a mental patient who's ready for murder.  So with someone who really needs my support.  I can help someone who needs me and can not support himself or his family. Someone who is   incapacitated to land for any decent job.  I can readily help somebody's kids anytime anywhere when need be.

I would try to help them (Keyword being try) but my neighbors are all D-bags and hate me so I don't know if that would work.  They hate me for stupid reasons to.  Tjhe neighbor next to me hates me because I dated her best friend and we broke up.  Others hate me for reasons that I am not even sure of.  :( but I don't care lol
