Kasey Kahne to Hendrick Motorsports
Marty Smith of ESPN.com is reporting that Kasey Kahne has signed a deal with Hendrick Motorsports in 2011. It is not known who he will replace or if he will spend a year on Tony Stewart's team before replacing Mark Martin. Anyway, your thoughts?

Being a Kahne fan  I'm excited for this they have the best equipment over at  HM and now he has all the tools he needs to win a championship which I think he can do.

That;s interesting. I wonder what that means for Dale Jr.? is Mark Martin retiring?

I just heard about this and I'm so shocked!  This changes a lot of things.  Kasey to Hendrick? Wow, I never would have expected it.  I see JR going on his way.  Probably for the best!

It seems most likely he's going to be replacing Mark Martin either in 2011 or 2012. Martin is signed through 2011. I'd like him to replace Junior, but Rick Hendrick has too much pride to just give up on Junior.

SIRIUS Radio was all over this all day today, but no one really gave a report by Marty Smith a whole lot of credence.  With the HMS Stable full to the end of 2011, the speculation is mainly that Kahne will spend a year with Stewart-Haas before making the move to HMS.

Now, with the firing of Kelly Bires at JR Motorsports, it seems that team is also in a bit of a flux.  The agreement for Earnhardt Ganassi driver Jamie McMurray to drive nine races for JRM has this fan wondering if things between EGR and JRM are on a little better ground again? Maybe they are talking about something down the road?

Isn't it a little too early for silly season?

It would be kind of weird for him to go back to the "family" team that isn't really the "family" team anymore.  If he were to be allowed to pursue other opportunities, I would guess he'd probably end up at RCR.  That advantage he has is that he'll always be able to bring along sponsors, therefore he can kind of choose his landing spot.

Junior's contract runs through 2012.

My take:
KK goes to SHR for 1 year, and then,Junior heads the way of SHR, ( meaning he fields his own team as an owner driver) and starts building JRM with Pops at the helm..

Remember I said this

Dont understand this John..if KK is your driver why does it matter who he drives for, isn't it the driver that you follow?

I understand exactly how you feel John! I had the same reaction about JR going to Hendricks.  I have said it before and I will say it until he leaves..........JR is NOT happy at Hendricks and is getting ready to start his own team.  This announcement just verifies my thinking for the last year.  I don't think JR will be there much longer.  I can't believe Kasey is joined the Golden Boy Club either.  Believe me he will not get the attention or the better cars like Johnson and Gordon get.

It always seems that out of Hendricks "Four Horseman" the 4Th is the Dark Horse.

#14 | 1622 days ago

Worth pointing out that HMS had 5 of its chassis/cars in the Chase last year.  Of those, four finished in the top five. There is no dark horse. Just teams/drivers who can't do their job as well as the other teams.

Just be happy for Kasey then my friend, He will finely will have good equipment!

I TOTALLY understand were your coming from, I'm not a fan of Hendrick myself, BUT, if he is going to supply Kasey with top tier equipment, Then Go KASEY GO!

You will be able to put your finger on it once he starts racing for them.  I read where he hopes to take BUD as his Sponsor.  I think JR said the same thing.  With Hendricks it the highest bidder.  Really, AMP?  I could not believe that one.

This is a wait and see.  Still Gordon and Johnson come first at Hendricks and I don't see that happening.

Kool. that I can identify with deeply. I still think of Rick Hendricks as Slick Rick, regardless of all the Humanitarian things he does. I have always thought there was something not quite right there, and that is why I see Junyah heading out the back. There just is something a little on the slimy side in that camp..JMHO

WOW!....I am not surprised in the least. I think Kasey is a bright young man. I also think he is very respectful and thankful for the opportunity to drive for first Ray and then the Petty's and all that mess. He has endured quite a bit since he started racing and I think now he is being smart. Making moves to fit him. Kasey reminds me alot of Bill Elliot, and everyone would have to agree that Bill is the "ultimate gentlemen". When everything was going wrong, Kasey stood by his team/team owners. I cannot honestly say I have heard him say anything negative about either Ray or the Petty's. Who he is replacing isn't the question I want answered. I would honestly like to know why he hasn't left before now?, and I guess I answered that already. He's respectful, and thankful. I am so looking forward to next year, just to see where he is for the year.
I was looking for the article about the Bud sponsorship...and I believe and i hope I can find it...Rick Hendrick turned it down, the BUD name was not in line with the "family orientation", his team had or something like that..I'll hush for now and go in search of it, but it came down to his other car sponsors were not thrilled about a beer company...

Mark Martin referred to Kasey as a "Diamond in the rough" and that Hendrick was the perfect man to take that diamond and polish it and make it shine.  I wish Kasey luck in his decision.  I can't say I understand it.

For the second time in three years, Budweiser will likely lose another NASCAR driver to Hendrick Motorsports. Industry insiders say there is little chance that Budweiser will follow driver Kasey Kahne to Hendrick Motorsports’ No. 5 Chevrolet in 2012. Pepsi, a longtime Hendrick sponsor, enjoys beverage exclusivity with the organization, where it sponsors Jeff Gordon, its Amp Energy brand sponsors Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Gatorade sponsors Jimmie Johnson.

“There’s a very deep relationship there between Pepsi and Hendrick Motorsports, and there’s virtually no way that Hendrick would want to upset Pepsi by trying to bring Budweiser on board,” said one industry source.

I have to wonder if Kasey Kahne will get short shrift at Hendrick the way Dale Jr. seemingly has. I hope not, because Kasey is a bright and intelligent driver and I enjoy watching him race well.

Out of curiosity how has Dale Jr gotten the short shrift at Hendrick?

He gets crappy cars and no help from his team mates. Shall I go on or would you like more? jerk.

And your proof of this?  Seriously, he was the only HMS car (that's including Stewart's two teams) not to make the Chase last year.  He's a cash cow. Hendrick gets even more money if he makes the Chase or wins the whole thing by selling even more merchandise.  Junior hasn't gotten the short shrift, he and his team just hasn't performed well.  Its that simple.

Doesn't it seem a bit ridiculous to accuse an owner of purposely giving one team bad cars with no proof?

I'm going to jump in here with a comment, but I am not going to argue with you Mike, because you dislike Dale Jr, plain and simple, and nothing is going to change your mind, so it's a waste of time.

Rick Hendrick joined the 5 car and the 88 car in the garage over the off season, so they would be more of a cohesive unit, much like the 24 and the 48 team, so obviously, HE thought there was something not being shared, or some kind of a problem that way.  Now this year, Jr is running much better while Mark is struggling a little more.  Jr got some of Mark's crew from last year and vice versa, so it does seem as if there is some validity to the claim that Jr wasn't getting everything he needed to succeed, IN MY OPINION.  If Mark were still in front of the points and Jr was still running in 25th or so, I'd say not, but the results so far this year are saying otherwise.
#34 | 1609 days ago

That's fine and all Debi, but there is a major difference between Junior's team lacking the ability to properly communicate for whatever reason (and there plenty of different possibilities) and accusing an owner of intentionally give Junior bad equipment.  The first is a legitimate issue some times have to overcome, and the other is just a cheap low blow to somehow cover for a team's deficiencies.  The simple fact is that Junior did not compete last year despite being on a team that had more than good enough equipment to finish well.
