Early prediction: Which NFL teams are most likely to be Super Bowl contenders this season? (Edited 07/19/10 12:15AM by Kenne)

Now that the draft is over and training camps are coming up, which teams do you predict will be the biggest contenders during the 2010 season. It's still too early to tell as anything can happen over the course of the season, but what are your thoughts on which teams will be tough to beat.

As much as I hate to admit this, because I do not like the Patriots, I don't think you can discount them from being legitimate threats to go to the Super Bowl. The Saints could repeat if all the pieces fall in the right places, and the Vikings can never be discounted, particularly if Favre comes back. Minnesota could be a really great team next year.

I'm thinking the Jets will be the AFC champions this year, they came close last season, and now with the additions of LaDanian Thomlinson, Santonio Holmes, Jason Taylor, and Antonio Cromartie they should be sure fire to win the AFC.

Cowboys or Saints  -vs-  Colts or Jets

Right now the Jets just seem impregnable.
They have virtually no weakness....of course, as is true with every NFL team, injuries could derail them.
The Cowboys seem solid enough, but there's always the chance the choke in the playoffs.
My OTHER is the 49ers. That team already has Coach Singletary's personality and now they have the personnel that he wants as well. Look for David Carr to lead that team into the playoffs, and who knows, maybe further

Of course the Bengals because there my team. I think the Jets get there next year on defense alone. They picked up a great compliment to Revis which will make it almost impossible to have a passing game against them. And i like the Saints as well.

Rams Vs. Chiefs...an all Mo. Super Bowl....seriously, though...there are always surprises....teams that aren't supposed to have a chance coming out of nowhere (99 Rams jumps right out) and teams that SHOULD be good ('05 Eagles) that completely tank.  I'll root for my Rams...but I'll also root for the underdog to make a run...the team that isn't supposed to do anything to make some noise.

As for surprise teams 49ers have to be the leader of the pack in the AFC West, But as for as top three teams,  colts, saints and jets have to be the early favorites. injuries and underperformance by newly signed players may prove to be their down fall.  Personally I would love to see the Browns climb back up and fight for a playoff birth, but I am not that dumb......yet

I really think the Baltimore Ravens are the AFC favorite to represent. They crushed the Patriots in the playoffs, should be favored to win their division and perhaps get a bye this year, and there aren't many players that an extra year on their age should have hurt too bad. Ray Lewis and Todd Heap are their only 'old soulds' and they did a good job drafting a tight end and added depth in the front 7 with Serge Kindle and Mt Cody.

Oh and now they have Anquan Boldin to at least catch 70 passes or so but he'll really stretch the field for them to open up the run and screen game they love.

Yeah I did consider those losses, but I believe they have more than made up for their losses. They came close to the Super Bowl last year and now have a lot of improvements and voided areas taken care of. The one thing I think that will prevent the Jets from going far isn't their player's health, but their coaches.  I wouldn't be surprised if Rex Ryan goes into a coronary midway through the season.

I only asked because Thomas Jones is the one who carried that offense last year and Shonn Green was a complementary back. Sure, they got LT, but will they be able to pick up the slack of Jones not being there anymore?

If the Bengals can get a passing game going then they can be contenders.  They had a great running game and a stud defense last year.  The passing game stunk.   They did pick up about 80 receivers during the offseason but they still have Bob Bratkowski calling plays.  They could make run.

The Jets will choke. They come into the season with high expectations (which they should they have everything to build a playoff team) but pressure will get to Sanchez, and their defense will crack under the pressure of being on the field 70% of the game (too many 3 and outs because all the Jets do is run run run and then PUNT).....Just sayin.  Ravens are easily a Championship contender. Adding Boldin will only make that offense more diverse, and if that defense can hold it together one more year, they could be the team of destiny.

they also have jim zorn now.... he is going to hold them back :-) bu in all seriousness that defense is aging. do the ravens still have those two offensive tackles? oher and that other big guy, forget his name. all boldin did was replace todd heap who hasnt been the same since like 2005. playoff team maybe but probably knocked out in first game. i dont see why people are dissing the pats. they have one of the bsmartest coaches in the game, that guy is all about winning and has the same drive in his starting qb. that defense is young and loads of talent. im just still mad the chargers didnt do what they were supposed to last year. o well

you do realize the ravens defense is older, and on top of that ed reed might not even play this year. boldin replaces one receiver, but what about todd heap, he just hasnt produced like he did back in the day. didnt the pats beat ravens last year as well? if i was a betting man, im putting my money on pats to go further than ravens thats all im saying. besides, nobody is afraid of ravens d anymore, you can throw on them these days. pats d might be inexperienced but they now have a year of experience and billichick is a defensive minded coach.

The Ravens have been decimated by injuries to their secondary. The front seven is still a force to be reckoned with though. I will admit i am starting to consider that the Bangals have a chance to repeat in that division.
I also am starting to wonder if the Ravens have enough depth to get to the AFC Championship Game...all that said, ...Do YOU think Carolina is going to breath even .500 air?

Fair enough, but I would purport to you that in the same exact vein I believe that the Buccaneers will surprise and actually win half a dozen games...see a surprise, but still more or less meaningless

Hmm, just wondering if I should have waited to make this prediction...the Revis holdout concerns me, and if the Jets don't have his defensive plays and leadership this season it's going to be difficult to beat out the Colts in the AFC...Also, the Bears I believe will surprise some this year and actually make the playoffs.

Sure, with thier young inexperienced offense I admit that it's somewhat of an optimistic prediction coming from a Bears fan , but the Bear defense ( Monsters of the Midway )  will win games for them and give them a respectable season.

If the Broncos don't stop getting hurt, they won't have a team to play against any one!

Would like to see Superbowl Eli vs Peyton
Am picking Saints for two reason, number one I lived in New Orleans for 11 years but ws born in the Bronx, New York, Giants were me and my fathers team, went to first Giant game in the Polo Grounds, watched one of the greatest teams in NFL history play real football, so I am split, I also like the Mannings

i take my answer back.......... redskins arent going to the playoffs unless they get some consistency going on offense. donovan has a rocket of an arm but his accuracy isnt there. larry johnson better not start, and i have a feeling wide recievers who i thought was going to start this year wont be
