2012 is nearing.

Hot button issues are always heated, and with most people you can disagree with them and move on. Off the top of my head, there are 4 that i will no such thing for.

Anyone that fights over a political issue or religion is a MORON. Every type of discussion gets heated. I will never get deep into a bs discussion. I love to learn new things and I believe that you can learn a lot from a dummy. Most people like certain issues, others don't, but to criticize one and not the other is also ridiculous. There's a discussion right there to argue. Which topic is more important to you? That is the same argument as politics and religion.

And, God bless you my friend.

As with MOST people- I can argue and disagree with them on certain issues and 5 seconds later- be having a beer with them and discussing football. But there are those "select few" that I will NEVER "kiss and make-up with" no matter what the circumstances because they are just SO FAR away from my views that a friendship would NEVER occur anyway.

It's sad what has become of the Q. I used to enjoy it so much. But now I am disappointed with the ones I love to argue with the most. I love the opposing views but some do not know how to speak without insulting everyone else. It's no longer a learning experience it's just one voice screaming louder than everyone else. I'm sick of the know it all Q'ers who can't see past their own nose. For me there is no making up with them. You are correct Vin, they are not friends. So long Vin you can have the political polls. Sorry I called you the ass you are. I know, I'm an ass too. Guess on one level we are equals.

Sorry moderators........ My sincere apologies to you and my fellow Q'ers.

I've suggested No politics or religious polls many times to our Mods- but to no avail!  All they have said is that it's the Locker Room and any topic can be discussed- so I suggest the same thing again- No Political or Religious polls in the lockerroom and I support Marcus' suggestion as well.

I think political threads are OK (even though I'm sure many on here would have liked to kill me during one). Debate used to be healthy...now everybody just parrots what they see on TV...one person shouting over the opposite, the loudest is always correct.

I don't take any of this personally. Hopefully, all, no matter what their beliefs, will not take my opinions personally either.

BTW...I'm only kissing the ladies...lol.

the problem with politics and religion are they are very personal issues and most people can not discuss them objectively...They let their emotions rule and  it becomes personal.....that in itself is a problem.....and when you are dealing with word to boot,, its very hard to interpret other people's  sentiments via their words and that just makes it worse....then you have age differences, cultural differences that playinto the "personal aspect" and its very hard to be objective , and then it gets even more personal....
#21 | 1092 days ago

I avoid them like a plague! First because I respect everybody's faith and beliefs,  and second I don't live in the US and I couldn't express an objective opinion about politics in your country, so I better go and look for something else in the LR.

I dislike discussing politics or religion.  However, basic human rights issues will reel me in every time.  We are all human beings, and none - I repeat, NONE - of us is better than the one right next to us.  Until others recognize that everyone has the same basic body functions, we all them and we all have the same ones, discussion will continue..  NO ONE PERSON IS BETTER THAN THE ONE NEXT TO THEM.

Until we all recognize that, the kind of discussions we've witnessed will continue.  As long as there are those who somehow feel they are so much better than anyone else, there will those of us doing our damnedest to convince them otherwise.

Seriously? Did you really just say that? The fan base is killing the fan base. All the inappropriate content, name-calling, and not following of certain simple rules is what's being done, and when a Moderator steps in, WE are the bad ones....ok...makes plenty of sense.  Most of the members that I know that have left, aside from the ones that got booted for stuff they shouldn't have done in the first place, left because of the way they were treated by OTHER members. Not the mods.

You said that right.  If someone doesn't follow the rules they will be removed.  We moderators cannot do that.  Only employees of the site have that power.  Us VOLUNTEER moderators like to have fun too, but it seems anything bad happens there are those who need to point a finger, and the moderators are handy.   That isn't fun at all.  Others have left for other reasons, but I can tell you I'm in contact regularly with quite a few ex-members who left for their own reasons.  I sure as hell didn't send them away, in fact, I'm the one begging them to come back.

Well, i think we need political polls just as we need "who thinks susie q is the greatest on the Q". Why not be able to discuss issues that ARE REAL. Those that loose control, resort to name calling and insults are always the losers to me. That is what I teach now. The difference between animals and humans is that animals kill for a reason and humans kills for pride, bravado and materials. If you can't have a human discussion, and it becomes a altercation, the one throwing fists and insults is the one that has run out of facts and can no longer articulate their thoughts, therefore showing their animalistic atributes. It isn't the mods fault, there has to be rules. examples have to be made. I reframe from harboring any animosity, for any onliner. I have been online soo long that I expect that kind of behavior to manifest itself at any time due to onliners exhibiting beer muscles, napoleon complexes and the "I'm better than you" attitude. Those that lived it should know how to deal with it without letting the latter turn YOU into something you're not.

politics. look at it this way. we all like to laugh and joke around. politicians and the crap they do and things they say is the best comedy material in the world. they can piss us off for sure but nothing will ever change. so we may as well laugh at them and keep OUR sanity. theirs is looooong gone.
