I can't stand stupid tourist!
So I did this poll on my old profile, but no longer have access to it. I am going to be on vacation next week. I will be going to Washington DC, with my family. I have never been there and am really looking forward to seeing the city. I know we won't have time to see everything, but what are some things I must see? I know that seeing everything in the Smithsonian will be impossible, but what are some buildings and displays, I need to check out? Thanks for your suggestions.

I've never been so I have no words of advice for you. I just wanted to post and let you know I'm completely jealous of you and you better go see the Vietnam Memorial and take pics.

Have a great time Kevin! (LOL...I find it funny that you are going to see historical and meaningful things in a week and at the same time I, a teacher, am going to Vegas. )

Watch "National Treasure II" before you go, then retrace the steps the movie took.  But when you kidnap the President, don't let him go.

Have fun D*ck Head.  We'll miss you.

The Greyhound Bus terminal ... trust me, it's the most exciting and entertaining part of D.C.
Oh, and tell fake-handicapped Carl I said hi.

Washington Monument....and WALK DOWN the stairs...(556 of them, I believe).  Lincoln Memorial-neat to see, but kinda boring...just a hugh jass Lincoln statue...as a Kid, I liked the Museum of Natural History....and Arlington National Cemetery...I remember seeing the "Eternal Flame" in 1972....no Susanna Hoffs of the Bangles at that time, so no reason to get the song "Eternal Flame" stuck in my mind then....

I went there a few years ago, and one place I enjoyed was the International Spy Museum.  Takes about 2-3 hours to go through, but fascinating.  You do have to pay to enter, and it is popular enough that you usually have to buy tickets early, often a day before, possibly more.    spymuseum.org   is their site.

Arlington National Cemetary, and be sure to observe a changing of the guards, WWII Memorial, Korean Memorial, Vietnam Memorial, then the Smithsonian, Air and Space Museum, Museum of Natural History, Marine Memorial, and if you get a chance to take a bus tour of D.C.....well worth your time.

Normally I would offer to trade you, but been planing this for about 8 months. I don't even own a camera, however my family owns lots of them and will be taking lots of pictures. I will just steal theirs.

For Capitol Building tours, you need to arrive early for tickets.  (I thought I saw the same for Washington Memorial as well, but  I'm not sure).  I was by myself, but I think you need your entire party with you when you pick up tickets.

White House tour would probably be interesting, but no cameras are allowed, no bags (such as purses).  But you need to arrange tour way ahead of time. (I think months, check before you go, so you don't go waiting in line for nothing.)

The Air & Space Museum... there are two different locations - one in the National Mall the other not far away in Virginia. I wish I had taken time to see that one. Madame Tussuad's Wax Museum was cool. If WW2 and the holocaust interests you there is the Holocaust Museum. The National Zoo was cool, although it would not be #1 on my list to see. It was cool to take the $1 Circulator Bus ride around the various Monuments.

Have fun... I can't wait to go again. Oh, and maybe it was just where I was staying, but the various shops were closed earlier than I expected.

the Spy Museum is cool.

1st thing is 1st, you should speak to your congressman/woman, and get a guided tour of the capitol, and see if they can get you into the White House.  One of thier duties in representing you is getting great stuff for you when you come to town.  call them up, or go to a local office.
