I don't think that he gets axed, but he's not returning in 2011.

I agree. He'll get ripped out of the dirt and tossed across the field, like one of his bases, come October/November.

I agree he will  not be back in 2011. I think he's tired and honestly I don't think he even cares about this team.

If you look at all the hitting coaches they've been through the past few seasons, I wouldn't be surprised to see a managerial swap to try and find an answer. They seem to have tried everything else so why wouldn't they?
With all the disappointments, they're only 8.5 games out. Chances are he will finish out the season, but I'm saying yes only because It wouldn't be a surprise to see a change...and because I wanna be different LOL

I think he will finish out the season, because I dont see how making a change now will do anything, since its the players that need to be changed. But I have no doubt that he will retire at the end of the season. I feel kind of sorry for Lou. Somehow, somewhere the team has gotten away from him. Though I cant completely blame the failures of this team on the manager or the coaches. It is the way this team was put together. There are too many Carlos Zambranos and Alfonso Sorianos. I like Fonsie, but there are times I wonder where his head is at.  And theres something about the way Ramirez handled his injury that just doesnt feel right. And Theriot, for some reason has lost the spark he had when he first came up. I dont know if its fair to blame Piniella for this. A manager can only do so much. These are supposed to adult men and if they dont know patience at the plate or how to hit a breaking ball by now, its not the managers fault.

Short and sweet; Lou will finish out the season and will only be back if they have a tremendous second half of the season and reach the playoffs; at this point, that looks immpossible. That leaves us with the great hope in Sandberg for next season.

Ryne has a reputation to uphold! Why would he take that job? LOL

I agree that he'll finish the season. Unless some drastic events happen from here to the end, his future with the Cubs is questionable. He still cares about the team, but it's the players performance that has to improve for the team to have a better season.

Well, the D-Backs just done it..fired A.J Hinch and the GM. If this helps them, that might make the Cubs think about it..maybe

I think they will give Sandberg a full season at triple a, so I dont see them letting Lou go

I was starting to rethink my answer and then I read the following:

LOS ANGELES -- It's been a disappointing season, but manager Lou Piniella has made it clear he has no intentions of leaving the Cubs before the season is over.

Cubs general manager Jim Hendry wasn't surprised to hear that.

"That's something I expected," Hendry said Friday. "Lou Piniella has done so many good things in this game and he's earned the right to act like he did the other day. He's not a quitter.

"It hasn't gone well for him this year either -- he'd be the first to tell you that," Hendry said. "He didn't see our situation being what it is in the middle of July. That's why I tell people, he's done so many good things for us and for the game, I felt there was no way I was going to let him go. That to me is the wrong message for the organization moving forward."

Before Tuesday's Cubs game in Arizona, Piniella told Chicago reporters that in this business, you have to be prepared to take the good with the bad.

"Sooner or later, it's going to be your last [year] regardless," Piniella said. "Put it this way, when it's time, it's time. It doesn't matter if you do it out of a losing season or a playoff season."

Don't expect to see Piniella managing another team.

"I know that this will be my last managing job," Piniella said. "I do know that for a fact."

He'll start off going to the Yankees in a blockbuster deal, then at the last minute end up with the Rangers for a rookie first baseman and 3 prospects!

Well Lou left before the season was over....questions answered...not fired...retired himself to attend to his ailing mom and spend the
rest of his life closer to his family. Good Luck Lou, you were great for baseball.
