Padres are struggling a bit going into the All-Star break

Their lead in the N.L. West, as of now, is down to 2 games over the Rockies. Will San Diego fade in the 2nd half or will they fight for the division all year long?

They'll be fine- every team encounters bumps on the road during the season. The All Star Break will help them get a second wind.

They will most definitely fade away, the only question is when. Trust me.

Trust you?  Is this a bias Giants fan talking or a knowledgeable baseball fan talking?   I'll take the Padres over the Giants in the second half. In fact, I will take them to win the west.

Good for you. Come back in a couple months and talk to me after the inevitable collapse the Padres are about to suffer.

Imagine a Texas- San Diego World Series?  It'd be great.

Padres have actually owned the Giants so far, San Diego is 7-1 vs San Francisco so far this season.

Nima, I don't really follow the NL at all, so I have to trust your knowledge: are there NO similarities at all between this years Padres and the '08 Rays?

There's more of a comparison between the '08 Rays & the '10 Reds.

The only real similarities I see in the two teams is the pitching staff. I wouldn't even so so far as to say the Padres staff is as good as the Rays was that year. That Rays team could hit 1-9, this Padres team doesn't have much that scares anybody with the exception of Adrian Gonzalez.

The Padres were a lucky team in the first half, lots of 1 run victories and lots of overachieving. Their MVP other than Gonzalez is Bud Black, their manager.

I don't see them winning the division or even the wild card.
They'll finally fade
