Back in the day, Singletary wore hard contact lenses.  He was one of those feaks that kept his eyes open as he hit people (most people close their eyes as a reflex).  Anyway, he used to lose his contacts because he'd hit people so hard that his contacts would literally fly off his eyes.

I had a tough time between Singletary and LT...I chose the latter and it hurt me as a Bears fan!  I agree with Wachson that Steve Atwater could/should be on this list if not the top five!!!

That wasn't so much a hit as Taylor's weight, along with another Giants player, falling on Theismann's leg.

Ronnie Lott is surely one of the best hitters of all time. There are so many that can be added to the argument. But, to say that Ronnie Lott makes all these look like whacked out fools doesn't carry merrit. Jack Tatum, Jack Youngblood, Ray Nitschke and others have more than the right to

be placed on this list. Another is Chuck Cecil. If he had played back 15 or 20 yeaqrs ago when you could hit and not get fined for it, he would have been alot higher on peoples lists.

Ronnie Lott.....he even said, he did not try to tackle guys or hit guys.  he said he tried to run through them.....like a freight train not stopping at the station.

Ronnie Lott  hands down was one of the hardest hitters of all time. What about Andre"dirty" Waters or even Joey Browner from the Vikings they bought the wood.

Dude hard hitting and taking away a man's livelihood (intentionally) are two totally different things. Ending a mans career  intentionally hardly deserves the least bit of respect, think twice about that.

To me Ray Ray hits just as hard as Wilbur Marshal and that is in no way a discredit to Lewis, point is there's too many names we would need Mythbusters to scientifically prove the hardest hitter.

JACK LAMBERT AND KENNY EASLY alot of the guys on the list had nothing on these two. Great hitters change games and make ball carriers not want the ball. Lawrence Taylor was awsome but for devastating hits Ray and Ronnie could just take players out of the game with a single blow.

After doing the list I agree that Atwater should be up there, but I think Jack Tatum was one of the more feared players in his day.  No one wanted to get hit by him.

(Edited by Anteros)
As much as I hate him for what he did to Darryl Stingley, Jack Tatum wasn't known as "The Assassin" for nothing.

The hits he used to make are now illegal in the NFL. He singlehandedly re-wrote the NFL rule book for hits in the secondary.

Hell, Ohio State has the "Jack Tatum Hit of the Week" award.

Simply vicious.

[EDIT] Also, I once saw a running back run full force into Jack Youngblood as he stood at the Goal line and the running back bounced BACKWARDS onto the field as Youngblood body-slammed him. 'Nuff said.

I can't even answer a poll like this one without #47 John Lynch in it. The guy knock out his own brother-n-law for crying out loud. Guys on his team make sure to know where he is so they don't get caught in friendly fire.
