Whats the rule, again? (Edited 07/26/10 01:49PM by Anthonyg7575)
Okay, so I watched He's Just Not That Into You for the 3rd time, which I honestly think women really only like because a lot of us like Justin Long for some reason. The movie is not that great. Anyway, I watched this again with my little sister. She loves it..whatever and after some FB discussion, she informs me that she is the exception. PAHLEASE! I tell her Hell no your friends are lying, you are the rule. For goodness sake, they just explained in the movie how women lie to each other about this. I digress. I believe most women are the rule. My question is...is the idea of a rule and an exception even true? Or is there only The Rule because we've all heard "once a cheater, always a cheater" and "If they did it once, they'll do it again"?
Here's the movie quote:
Gigi: I think I've figured it out. Remember when I went out with that notary public and he cheated on me and then Anastasia from upstairs told me about how her boyfriend cheated on her in the beginning then he totally changed and now they're married and crazy in love?
Beth: I thought that guy was a process server.
Gigi: No notary. Anyway my point is, Anastasia is the exception, not the rule. We have to stop listening to these stories because they rule is most guys who cheat on you up front don't really care about you very much.
Janine: Ok.
Gigi: Ok, Ok. Exhibit A. Chad the drummer who lived in a storage space. He only used me for rides and yet I continued to stalk him for most of 1998. Then oh, um, there was Don, that broke up with me every Friday so that he could have his weekends free. I was delusional about that relationship. I used to refer to him as my husband to random people, like my dental hygienist. Anyway, all my friends used to tell me about how things might work out with these dipsticks because they knew someone, who knew someone, who dated a dipstick just like mine. That girl ended up getting married and living happily ever after. That the exception and we're not the exception we're the rule.

Discuss.

I wouldn't necessarily say it's a rule, but it's a pretty good bet that if a person cheats there is a good chance that they will do it again..
But there are extenuating circumstances and situations where a person could change their ways..  Maybe you get a little older, and you have a better idea of what you want out of a relationship.  Maybe you finally realize what kind of an affect your cheating can have on the other person.  Maybe you just find the one
I've never cheated or been cheated on (that I know of anyway ), but having been the other guy a couple times, I think a lot of people settle for an idea of what they think a relationship should be like and then they stray based on the fact that they aren't happy.  Men and women.
And it's because of that last point that if a person you're involved with can't be monogamous, it's because the situation isn't right.. It may not have been anything you've done, but it's not meant to be. So that should give a little hope to those that think they can change their partners who cheated in the past.  If you truly are the one for them, then they probably won't cheat.  But if it's not meant to be, don't be surprised when they do.
Yes, there are rules and exceptions.

1) i think FB means either facebook, f*ckbuddy or female bondage/bonding...
2) i'm probably not the one to listen to about this junk. longest relationship i've been in was two and a half years including all the time (months) spent split up. but i'd like to think that the only rule in love is that there are no rules; just enjoy. eh. maybe that's why i'm single city. p.s. if you wanna see a good movie about singles trying to make it, watch "singles" with matt dillon, kyra sedgwick and bridget fonda. it's awesome.

she's not quite 17, so I'm hoping she's not at the last 2 yet.  and yeah, I'm not the person to ask either because i have strange views on certain relationship issues, I'm just wondering what the general consensus is.

I've heard all sorts of different percentages of how much each gender cheats; the one common thing in those "stats" is that men tend to cheat more than women do. I guess there are various reasons given for why men cheat more than women but I think the main reason is that most women prefer to have a romantic connection to a man prior to giving it up. Most (and note I said "most") men need not have that connection.

What I would say is there are vague rules and many exceptions...

I had a very hard time choosing an answer choice. I LOVE Justin Long. His brainy, nerd, sex appeal gets to me; however, Beans .....well he's Beans.....so .....OK...never mind, it wasn't as hard of a choice after all.

As for the topic-----------------I have no clue, I just enjoy the ride for however long it lasts.
Beans is exceptional.

Yes there is an exception to every rule.  The problem is finding that exception.

 many exceptions...

so you think that regardless of a man or woman's history, there are many people who will change or stop, i guess, for the right person?

Oh, and i used cheating because it's an obvious issue but there are other relationship hurdles of course. i mean liars, lazy asses, screamers, cryers, etc...The question applies to any situation.

I would love to give you the answer, but despite reading this thread twice. I don't even know what the question is. Hence my first post. I got nothing.
