Dale Sr's, is probably the first one that comes to mind as it took a legend from the sport. Adam Petty's comes to mind as it took a rising star from the sport. There are so many in between where thankfully the drivers walked or were taken away.....Elliot's, Ricky Rudd's, Rusty Wallace's, Dale Jarrett's, Todd Bodine's...there are so many and it's hard to choose just one.

i really thought Richard Petty's was the worst.  I just knew it had killed him.  Thankfully it didn't.

Do you remember Geoff Bodine's truck crash at Daytona. That is as bad as it gets.

I agree only because we lost Sr, but that crash looked like nothing.

I have to go with the Bobby Allison catch fence crash at Dega

or the Geoff Bodine  truck race crash at Daytona, which really is one of the worst I have ever seen!:

Yeah as far as scary, Bodines was something else...I remember sitting there with my mouth hanging open and holding my breath...Elliot's crash last week was pretty scary, I was very happy to see him put that net down and climb out....

I was holding my breath too Jen, especially when he got out and laid down on the track. That was some scary SH-T

Yes is was pretty scary. Well a good man had to pay the price to get the safety in those cars. Sr. lives on with every crash we watch now and driver walk away.

Like you guys, I have to agree that Bodine's was the scariest, closely followed by Allison's.  I think if we had been able to see more of Elliott's crash, it might rank up there near the top, but the fact that all we saw was that car hit the dirt the way it did minimized it somewhat, until we saw the aftermath.  Seeing Elliott clamber out of the car the way he did, obviously uncomfortable, was heartstopping.  When he laid down on the ground, my thoughts immediately went to his wife and baby boy.  He would not be here but for the improvements NASCAR has made after we lost far too many of our boys.  That much I KNOW.  But I am ever so thankful that he IS here.

That is for sure, I couldn't agree more.

I think the accident that took the Life of Fireball Roberts at the World 600 was horrific. He died some 39 days later I believe.

Bodine's crash was the worst I've seen but how about the wreck Michael McDowell had during qualifying at Texas a few years ago. McDowell's crash was one of the first to prove just how safe the COT is. One other crash that comes to my mind is the wreck a then unknown Busch Series driver named Jimmie Johnson had at Watkins Glen in 2000. Two other bad crashes were Mike Harmon (2002) and Michael Waltrip (1990) at Bristol. One last wreck I will mention was the Larry Pearson wreck this year in the Legends Race at Bristol, I was sitting at the entrance to turn 3 when that happened in turn 2 and you could hear the impact when Glotzbach hit Pearson. It was amazing how quiet the crowd got as soon as that happened.

Yes, those were all bad crashes as well. It is very hard to tell which is the worst.

Most people forget about Tony Roper's fatal accident in the NASCAR Truck series.  The thing I remember clearly about that day was that the TV cameras had excellent vantage points of the wreck, and most avid race fans knew right away, from the live footage,  that Tony was in serious trouble.

Remember the horrific wreck involving Ricky Craven in the 1996 Dega race? That was pretty scary.   I've included a link for you to see it again.

I have to say Bobby Allison and Richard Petty's were the worst for me

The worst I remember was in 1992 when Dale Sr bumped Rusty Wallace causing his car to flip over several times & then during the caution Dale had hauled ass out to see if his friend was alright while the paramedics were still trying to take care of him...

I remember that as well (have it on VHS) and when they interviewed Dale afterwards, he was flustered, something we rarely saw from Big E, and said "I have his gloves" as if somehow that was going to make it all alright.
