NFL Kickoff - What's on the Menu?
This Sunday we're doing our annual NFL kickoff party and I need your help! Over the past few years, it's been easy...we were settled in with our regular group of friends and we had it all figured out what we would make, who would bring what, etc. This year, everything is brand new! Location, friends, and most importantly...menu! I'm sure there will be some of the same ol' favorites, but I've since forgotten what are some "sure things" to be a hit. Here is the "well, duh..." menu:
  • Li'l Smokies in Sweet Baby Ray's
  • My homemade salsa with dipping strips
  • Rotel with Velveeta and taco meat (more chips)
  • Fruit plate (different fruit this year though...some tropical stuff added)
  • I thought about  making some Chex Mix
  • Drinks will include beer, vodka lemonade, sweet tea, and whatever the guests bring
There will be people here all day, of course, and now that football doesn't start until the afternoon (used to be 10am when we were on the "left" coast), it's been decided that there will be Madden wars leading up. We have NFL Sunday Ticket and two receivers, so people will be able to watch basically whatever game they want - we're not forcing Seahawks and Colts on them - once the games start. So - obviously there will be eating/munching all day. I need your help with some more ideas!

We also have Sunday Ticket, I'm watching a whole lotta football. Starting with the Lions as soon as they're down by 21 points (most likely within the first 5 minutes) I'll switch over to a REAL team and watch the Texans Colts shootout after that I'll play it by ear as to which game(s) I watch... Go LIONS and TEXANS!!!!

Watching the Lions makes me too sick to eat, so I have no recipe to add

No healthy mess unless they bring their own, cheese trays, love cocktail shrimp, wings are very necessary (smoked wings are my new fave), and my sliders on hawaiian rolls are a big hit. Not a big fan of sweets and alcohol mixing but just buy cookies if you must. I always make daiquiris, and recently discovered a love of Sangria.

Perdue chicken wings...put em on a baking sheet and cover em with SOY SAUCE (TRUST ME!!!)....cook one side 30-35 minutes at 400 degrees....flip em, more soy sauce and another 30-35 minutes....your guests will think u spent all day preparing them...don't get thrown off by the soy sauce thing...

We got a Steelers fan club here that meets at Hooters, so what ever is on the menu there.  And one can hardly even notice the wimmins running around with half their ace hanging out there.

I'll be at the game so it'll be whatever we buy on the way to tailgate.  Most likely leftovers from our Saturday ND/Michigan tailgate.  It's gonna be a great weekend(provided both of my teams don't lose - knock on wood).

Go Irish and Bear Down!
