If you could change one thing in NASCAR next season, what would it be? (Edited 10/14/10 07:22AM by SusanVette)
NASCAR's Jay Hart of yahoosports.com was asked this same question and said he would shorten the length of the season.  I now ask this same question to the FanIQ nation...

If you could change one thing about NASCAR for next season, what would it be?

I would'nt shorten the season, def not..I would shorten a few races, change the points format, totally revamp "The Chase", get rid of the "COT",  you can keep all the safety improvements, but give us back our cars....having all the cars look alike is not very interesting, and I feel takes away from the manufacturers race...ahhh, I could go on and on....sometimes I wish it was 1996 all over again.....

Make the regular season matter more. Its ridiculous that Jeff Gordon will start 50 points behind two drivers that he is better than (Jimmie Johnson and Denny Hamlin).
#2 | 1442 days ago

I was watching a show on Speed and Jeff Burton brought up a point that I think alot of drivers agree with.  It's no secret that towards the end of races is when the racing starts getting better so why not shorten the races.  The race at Atlanta is a perfect example.  The first 3 hours were for the most part boring but once the race started getting closer to the end, you started to see some great action between Carl Edwards, Jimmie Johnson and Tony Stewart.

Along with shorter races, I'd like to see less cars in each race.  I think right now there are just too many "field fillers" as they call them.    If there were less of this, the overall competition would be greater.  Basically as it is right now, it's an automatic lock to make the field each week with about 5 cars not making it.  Just take away 5-10 spots and the cars that right now are just slipping in each week might actually begin to be more competitive each week.

I have to say I agree with the latter part of the racing seems to be the best part of it all,but if you think about it shorter races mean more wreckless racing and who knows your team may be put out in the first few laps. The point system needs to be changed and give us back Richard Petty and Cale Yarbourgh days of racing, let each team do there best to REALLY see who can build the best race cars!

It's time to get rid of the, restricter plates, that's boring. Jr Bro time to break out. Maybe a bunch of us fans could set around over a beer,or sweet Tea. You can tell us what you think, and we could give some tips.

While I love the safety features of the new cars, Ihave to agree that they are too much all the same, can't tell the Fords from the Chevies without the lid decal.
Also, I have NEVER been in favor of the 10  bonus points being awarded AFTER the start of the Chase.  Award them at the time of the win, and up it to at last 15, or better yet, 25.
I have more, but for now that will do...................

We don't want to get rid of the restrictor plate. I think we've seen enough cars fly and the restrictor thankfully limits that.

Because points are about consistency. Finishing 2nd 3 times is better than a 1st, and two 15ths.

I beg the differ...i would much rather finish 1st once then 2nd 3 times...finishing 2nd 3 times still means you werent the best driver on those days...2nd place is just the 1st loser!!!! REAL CHAMPIONS WIN RACES!! Which Jeff Gordon hasnt done in a long time!!!

I totally agree. Isn't that why NASCAR brought in the chase in the first place? Its tough to argue that a guy running around in solid top 10 finishes most weeks deserves to beat a guy who wins several times a year, but might wreck a few times. I know a lot of people love the consistency aspect, but I think the risk-reward factor of checkers or wreckers should play a bigger role in the championship.

I think about the only change I would make is to up the bonus points to, say 15 rather than 10 just to add that extra incentive. Apart from that this season was one of the best I've seen and I'm looking forward to Daytona already!

UGH! the bonus points....you can win 3-4 races and then skunk out, and come "chase time" those bonus points will put you in the top spot. Not a fan of the bonus points at all.

I am in favor of additional bonus points for a win being awarded at the time of the win.  That's it.  Never mind that crappy, stupid idea of awarding them after the regular "season" and just before the chase starts.  That is the stupidest idea under the sun, as far as I'm concerned.  Up the points for the win by 10 or 15.  The guys are going to fight harder for that win if it is worth more points right then and there.

* sorry to keep pounding this opinion down everyone's throats, I really hate the way it is right now.

Now if we had them turning right and left, rather than going in an oval, it would be just like everyday driving! What's the fun in that?

The thing that bugs me is that when the Chase starts, all the points are taken away. I'm kinda stuck between changing the Chase or points because the winners get all the points! When the Chase starts, you could be leading, but then have dropped down to 6th because the five other guys beat you! It totally eliminates the consistence without wins game! That's what got Matt Kenseth his Championship! He only had one win, but he was consistent. That's what kills guys like Jeff Gordon and let's Jimmie get ahead.
