Jess's Daily Q - 10/11/10
These are questions I pull from my "Question of the Day" status updates in Facebook...if you're friends with me on Facebook and feel like answering in both places, please do!

(Changed it up a bit today...Facebook asks if you were an ice cream flavor. I'm asking about Jelly Belly Jelly Beans here because it's Halloween Month!)

Question of the Day: When was the last time you got lost? (Where were you, and where were you trying to go?)

Lost or wandering around aimlessly while drunk, can we get some clarification here?

i get lost all the time. woody can vouch for me. i think i can count on two hands how many times i've been on the phone with him and gone "aw f*ck. how did i get here?" or "how the hell do i get out of this parking lot?"

it may seem close-minded, but i am always facing north, my left is always left, behind me is south and right is east. it makes getting lost very easy.

Several years ago, I took the family up to the Rockies in Colorado for a quick vacation.

When we left, we went back the same way we came, I-70 East.  When you leave the greater Denver area, you're supposed to jump on I-76 which will take you to I-80.  I didn't...

After a couple of hours of driving through the god awful wasteland of eastern CO, I came upon a sign with a giant f'ing sunflower on it that said "Welcome to Kansas".

F**K!   2 hours later, I was back on course on I-80.

About a month ago. One of my co-workers/friend and I were leaving school. She's pregnant and she doesn't drive, so she was walking to the bus stop. I said I'd drive her back home. And she said it was fine, she just had to walk like a block and take the bus, I insisted (I wish I hadn't). So I was driving triying to pay attention on the streets we were passing by. She knows I lack of sense of orientation and asked me, are you sure you can go back? Pffft, of course!!! don't worry about it, OK she lives far far far away I drove like 25 min, and it's like a maze, I left her at home and went back. I got lost! I was driving random, called a friend from my cell phone, he wasn't good help, I kept driving, not a nice neighborhood, was getting dark and I was feeling anxious. I was afraid even to ask for directions, people didn't look reliable, so after several attempts to get out and almost out of gas I saw the light at the end of the tunnel and I was the happiest woman ever! I won't do it again. I need a GPS urgently

Can't remember when i was last lost because of me. But my friend swore she knew how to get to this wing place in fayetteville about a month ago.....she did not. LOL

k, I remember. cabin trip February 2010. In TN...wanted to leave early because I didnt want to drive up those narrow ass mountain roads in the dark but we were late thanks to everyone else. AND SOME IDIOTS decided the girls should ride with me, and boys in another, although all of the boys KNOW how i feel about being trapped with a whole group of ovaries.  MF'N UGH! but anyway, they have to stop and pee and then stop and eat, so of course we get separated because I am rolling so I was way ahead of them very early. Even after the stupid stops, I'm still in front but because we didnt leave on time it is now dark, like pitch black dark and TN road signs are F**king stupid. Missed my turn because the street that I was on, veered to the right with no street sign. About 20 minutes later, I felt like we should stop but since we were going the way the directions said, they insisted that we were ok. about 40 minutes later, I stop, station attendant says we are about an hour and a half in the wrong f**king direction. The boys are already there waiting. I called them, cussed them out for no reason except they were irritating me, got back in the car, turned off whatever we were riding too, put Jeezy in and turned it up way loud. We rode in absolute silence because everyone was scared to f**king speak. I did alot of planning to avoid that exact sh*t and I guess they thought i was going to run that bitch off the road. LOL.

Some of my very favorite adventures were times that I'd been trying to get somewhere and got lost. As often as I lose my way, I had to get used to it a long time ago. My husband rants and raves and hates being lost. I get the giggles and find it hilarious (unless I'm on a schedule...which doesn't usually make me happy anyway, so I'm not sure if that has anything to do with being lost or not).

Oh boy, probably a month ago in northern Indiana on some back country roads.  I decided against taking the toll road home from the ND game because I figured the back roads would be less congested.  Long story short, when someone tells you to take 19, it could mean State Road 19 or Country Road 19.  Found that out the hard way and a 1.5 hour drive turned into to about a 4 hour drive.

Long story, but in the fall of '06 I did a massive, epic drive over several days from Las Vegas to Oaxaca, Mexico, and about halfway through got insanely lost trying to pass through the northern Mexico city of Monterrey.
Trying to find way through city and stay on same highway going south was impossible. Several times forced onto different freeway, or off freeway, with no idea how to get back. Again and again dumped in random neighborhoods. Or caught on wrong road in hopeless traffic jams. Started to believe I would never ever get out of Monterrey.

Had to give up and ask directions umpteen times. Btw, people were always super helpful, and directions given were all good.

I like to refer to that area as West Kansas

The last time I was truly lost, I was in Wonderful Las Vegas.  I managed to find my way off the strip, roaming the streets in my suit, drunk off my ass, while my blackberry map told me I was in Minneapolis.. Stupid technology and tequila

I don't really get lost.   I may not know exactly where my destination is, but I usually have a good idea, as I review a map before I get there, so I have the general layout of the area.

If I find myself in the wrong location, I can retrace my steps to get back to a location I know.

I have used a GPS when I went to D.C., but it got hopelessly confused. (I had a destination about 1/2 hour away, and before my son and I stopped using it, I had an ETA of at least 2 hours.)    Again, I had an overview of the area, so I knew the layout, and I had a back-up map.

About an hour ago. Whoever the city planner is for Atlanta is an a-hole. A blind a-hole who was probably riding a drunken horse when he thought the streets should just stop and that they should all be one way with the word "Peachtree" in it. I swear to God, it's part of some elaborate college prank. Those jerky frat boys over at GT are probably behind it.

While trying to find her g-sp*t

Just on Saturday. We were deep in the forest trying to find a friend's house that we were gonna stay at for the night and couldn't find where we were going. No phone signal and the truck started giving us trouble. We thought we were gonna be mountain lion food, but found it about half an hour later.

I don't get lost, the only time i came close was 10 yrs ago.  I was going to Greensboro for our chatroom meet.  It's only about  50 miles from where i live and two major highways.  Hwy. 52 to Winston-Salem and I40 to Greensboro.  I get on business 40 east to Greensboro and drive for about an hour and notice all the off ramps are to places west of Winston.  At that time they were building I40 Bypass around Winston and all the roads came together east of Winston but somehow and to this day i don't know how, I  ended up going west.  Never lost but sure was on the wrong road going the wrong way. An hour and 20 min. drive turned into 3 hrs.

Maybe he has come to plan some areas in here too! Former governor tried to make the city look prettier but all the streets are a mess now, I thought he had asked a bunch of monkeys to do the planning (But I think monkeys could have done a better job) Sometimes takes me twice the time I used to spend to go to certain places, I just hate it!

Well, I rarely get lost, but now it only happens when I use my GPS.  I have to use it here in Germany; all the little towns look the same!  Winding road, check, pubs, check, a small church in the center of town, check…yep they all look the same!

Ok, one time a few years ago I drove to Koln, Cologne for the Americans, to go to the zoo and the chocolate factory.  After a wonderful time smelling the crud from the elephants and getting free chocolate we headed the two hours back home!  Anyway, I got lost because of the GPS; it took me to a side country road outside of the city.  We stopped at a red light and I noticed lots of women walking down this road.  We drove to the next red light and one of the women tapped on my window, I was about to roll down my window when I noticed she was barely wearing anything and it dawned on me!  I was on h00ker road because there were a lot of women barely wearing anything tapping on car windows.  I smiled back at the nice woman, told me kids to close their eyes and bolted making sure I hit every green light!

AGREED. Part of the reason I avoid downtown and midtown. The one way streets alone make you want to run over the very next officer on foot patrol you see.
