Me too - that's my answer.
I  make homemade chocolate chip cookies and the only kind of chips I'll use are milk chocolate Ghirardelli. I never use walnuts - sometimes macadamias but usually none. Sometimes I'll put caramel chunks in them too - those are pretty good. It doesn't get much better than my homemade Ghirardelli chocolate chip cookies.

Are break and bakes considered "homemade"?

If so, the doughboy makes these awesome Oatmeal Chocolate Chip cookies.....

Otherwise if it has to be mixed BY me.. I dig those Ghirardelli Brownies....

Nellie, even mixtures in a bag don't count. It's gotta be from scratch.

How about the caramel? I prefer them plain but sometimes I like to switch it up a bit. Nobody else likes macadamias in theirs either so it's a rare occasion that I put those in. The only time I do is when my mom asks for "boy cookies"

The caramel is allowable. The nuts...never. I almost punched my mom for putting nuts in the cookies.

 lol

Boy cookies are cookies with nuts. I don't care for walnuts or pecans in my cookies (the only way pecans are tolerable is when they're praline, IMO) so I use Macadamias.

for the past 3 years I have been making "monster cookies" for christmas. it is an oatmeal cookie with m&m's, reese's peanut butter chips, almonds, coconut shavings, nestle's chocolate chips and walnuts. it comes out about 8 inces in diameter and about a half inch thick. I make 3 dozen and the all finish by the next day (DAMN KIDS).

I so agree... but when I make mine, I put 3 different kinds of chips in. All Ghirardelli.  Milk, Semi, & Dark. they are so good that way.

Puerto Rican Flan

Flan (Spanish egg-custard)

1 can evaporated milk
1 can condensed milk
8 whole eggs
½ cup of sugar
1½ tsps vanilla
pinch of salt

Stove Top Caramel - Melt 1cup sugar in a non-stick pan, add 3 tbp water, cook over low heat. Keep your eye on it. If it burns you will have to start over. It just needs to melt that's all. It should start bubling, no need to stir. When it turns golden it's down. Using a non stick pan will cause the caramel to just slip off the pan when pouring - easy to clean later.

Immediately pour the caramel into a metal pan and swirl it around to cover the bottom and sides. Your have to be quick because once it starts to cool down you don't stand a chance. The caramel should have cooled down before you pour the egg mixture in it.

Flan - Blend all ingredients until completely mixed. Pour the flan mixture thru a metal strainer right into the caramelized pan.

Set the mold in a broiling pan (baño de María). Cover with foil. Cook in a 350º oven for 1½ hrs.

Test the flan to see if it's done by inserting a knife in the center, knife should come out clean. Remove from the oven carefully and let it sit on the counter until it cools. Then cover with foil and refrigerate for at least 4 hours.

To serve lay a plate, with sides, like a pie plate, on top of the mold then carefully flip it over. Leave it upside down for a few minutes so allow all the caramel to drain on the flan. To clean the mold just soak in hot water with soap.

Nothing beats my mom's apricot cookies, the biggest hit with the family during the holidays.  One of my cousins has become a connoisseur of them.  The year my grandfather passed away, my mom just wasn't in the holiday spirit like she usually is, and didn't bake.  Instead she bought cookies, and when this cousin tasted the apricots, she said "this isn't a Donna cookie."

I LOVE Canadian candy. Smarties are really good; the chocolate is better than Mars chocolate, IMO. There's also some kind of fizzy candy that's kind of like what WE call Smarties but they have a bit of fizz...are those Rockets?

I also love Old Dutch Salt & Vinegar, Ketchup, or Dill Pickle chips - I'm sure you can get them all over the place, but for some reason Canada's the only place I remember being able to find those flavors. Tim's Cascade is pretty good but Old Dutch is the BEST.

Yep rockets = chalky smarties down here. + I'd strangle a drifter on video for a bag of old dutch pickle chips.
