This list makes me so sad. Marilyn was just starting to be taken seriously as an actress. It's no secret how much I absolutely love her, and Brittany Murphy...all of these people were taken from us far too early.

But really Enter the Dragon, Bruce Lee is the best actor and most impactful action actor ever. He brought in a movement that touch real life which most of the other people on this list other then Tupac couldn't do. Chris Farley like Belushi were just lost talent it said. OTHERS IN NO ORDER BUT THE LAST IS DRAGON JR WHO DIDN'T REALLY HAVE A SHOT LIKE HIS FATHER AT SEEING HIS IMPACT.

I don't have mine in any order either, although I put Haim first as a goofy/sad shout out. Really if this was the Oscar Dead people montage Marilyn would be the anchor or maybe james dean, since they have become the most iconic.

#1 is Heath Ledger, I dont care what any of you say. The Dark Knight was going to catapult him into superstardom. He was brilliant in Brokeback Mountain, (so I heard) he had a short but memorable part in Monsters ball, and you wont find better acting than his in The Dark Knight. He was only 29 years old.

I wouldnt totally place Aaliyah as a full pledged actress, she was multi-talented, articulate but she was more of an entertainer than an a actress. I have a picture of her with me and my sons when they were teeneagers. Now Mr Bruce Lee started a fad, opened up a culture and brought the East to the West in a smooth fashion. My respect for thinking of Ms Haughton because that's the first person who came to mind when I read the poll title. Heck, I think I admired "" Baby Girl" more than my sons did.

PS- Aaliyah Haughton was known in the music industry as the original "Baby Girl"

because he has been in movies. I don't think of Chris Farley as an actor, but he was in movies; therefore, he belongs on the list. Plus, had he not died, he'd been in more movies (horrible ones more than likely) anyway.

she was more notable and talented as a singer; Tupac was gifted in both areas. She would've probably been towards the bottom of the ranks anyways, had she been listed. I almost did include her but pulled her name off at the last minute.

Everyone keep this in mind.  Bruce Lee died 40 years ago.  James Dean and Monroe have been dead a lot longer.  Yet people today recognize their faces.  That's what being a cultural icon is.

Who really remembers Aliyah?  I do, but only as a singer.

uh..I really remember her but she would be about my age so that may be a factor. Marilyn Monroe is remembered for several reasons, not just acting plus she was almost 40 therefore she had a longer career. She and James Dean both have been immortalized (and kept alive) by Hollywood. Many of the people on this list are "more popular" BECAUSE of how long they have been dead and because older people have more vivid memories of them. No one is saying that Aaliyah, Tupac, or even River Phoenix will be as well known 50 years from now as Monroe and Dean, just that they too, are actors (aspiring or not) who died too young.

James Dean was in three movies, all from almost 60 years ago. That's impact.

Go to any place that sells posters or art. I guarantee you will find Bruce, Dean, and Monroe posters or artwork for sale. Being dead for a long time means nothing, in fact it works against most artists.

The only artist you mention that has a chance of being remembered in 50 years is Tupac, and that is mainly because of how he died, he was shot in front of hundreds of people, yet no one saw anything.

My comment was about actors that transcend their craft and become part of the culture, during their lives and after their deaths.

My second statement statement is defined by that if you polled a hundred people, I bet a majority wouldn't recognize Aliyah or that she was an actress.  Tupac maybe, but he is known far more for rapping.  The list of musicians who died too young is endless, and he would be on the list of the greatest to die too young.

River Phoenix was freaking amazing... I am not saying that as myself at 12 who would lick the TV when he came on, and who slept with a picture of him underneath my pillow at night.  I am saying that as an.. umm.. almost 30ish year old woman who sees the talent that the kid had even at such a young age.

Heath Ledger is also one of those actors as is Brittney Murphy...you BELIEVED them on film!

My write-ins are a few actually but since I only had 2 they would be:
Heather O'Rourke
Dominique Dunne

As far as 2Pac... yes I believe him to be one of the "best" who died.. however I don't know that I would classify him as an actor, no more than I would Brittany Murphy as a singer.  Yes both were amazing at both, however I just don't see him as a "actor".
