Should the NFL change their division winner playoff policy?
With the 7-9 Seahawks making the playoffs and the 10-6 Giants & Buccaneers sit out, do you believe the NFL should change their policy regarding division winners making the playoffs?

I think they should switch to an 8 team bracket that involves each qualifying team playing the first week. There would be more money in it for the NFL also.

Actually, i've been thinking about this quite often, lately.  I don't think the format should change!!

If you look at the NBA, NHL and MLB, they are all the same.

Yes, it sucks that the NYG and TB Bucs didn't qualify even though their records were better than Seattle, but, what is the point of having divisions if the division winner isn't given a playoff spot?

Do I think that the NFL should include more teams to make the playoffs???  -  No.  if they add 2 more to make it 8 teams, then

1) half of the teams in each conference will make the playoffs (8 in / 8 out).
2) This would also cause an uneven number of teams in week 2 of the playoffs (5) which means that the #1 seed would have 2 bye weeks.....I don't think that will work.
3) the other option with 8 teams would be that no teams have byes, in order to stay with an even number of teams each week. I don't think the Owners/players would ever approve that, even though it would bring in more revenue?!?!?

I know how to fix it. Get the Rams to bring in a couple of real good WRs, San Fran drafts a GOOD QB, and have Arizona talk Warner out of retirement. Poof, a 7-9 Seattle doesn't win division.

everytime something rare happens the is a call for change. there is nothing wrong withthe current system. Everyteam ultimate goal is to win the super bowl. in order to do that you have to make the playoffs. the best way to guarenttee playoffs is win your division. beat those in your division and you should win it. (sorry oakland) of course you need to win games. Its not the nfl fault that the west was so bad. bad decision making on those clubs in the nfc west. I would leave well enough alone.

i have aways thought the teams with the best records shouldplay.....and i think when i team gets a W ,that isnt a W,,as in the GB vs Minn game..that,those situations should be taken into consideration, ,if a Referee makes an decision that would impact the outcome..it should be able to be reviewed........

I think they should keep the division formats, but if a team fails to reach 8-8, noone comes from that division. If that was the case, it would be 6NY Giants @ 3Philadelphia and 5Green Bay @ 4New Orleans.

Most of this is dependent on WHO you play OUTSIDE your division.Did the Hawks and Giants play the same teams? NO.So until everyone gets a shot at everyone else its ludicrous to discuss changes. What bothers me more and a little off topic,is the Championship game should be 2 out of 3.The SB is usually played in a neutral city, but as far as loot goes the home teams never get stadium money/hotel/restaurants in their home town. Each should have a game there. If you win them both you WIN,if not,THEN at the neutral site. The first game would be wicked as each tries to take out others players. If there is a serious intentional infraction, you would forfeit that game.Have to keep the safety in place. Also stop the "excessive celebration" penatly. Its fun to watch and harms noone.I would also add a 4 point field goal if they are over 50 yards!!!! Just a thought
