I'm sorry, HOW much did you say!?
My friend is getting married next month and i'm a groomsmen. I went to get fitted for my tux the other day and found out that its going to cost 191 dollars to RENT it for one day.  Are you effin kidding me?  I can BUY one for that price! The lady told me that the bridesmaids dresses cost 3-400 dollars sometimes. Thats just silly. I better get a damn nice groomsman gift, or at least boom boom with a bridesmaid. I'm sorry, HOW much did you say!? Photo

What do you remember paying for your Tux or bridesmaid dress?

Never have had to rent a tux to wear but the one time I stood up for my gay friend we had to pay $200 a piece for the bridesmaid dresses. That's the last time I'm going to be a bridesmaid at a gay wedding.

400+ dollars total got me -------an orange sherbet colored dress I will never wear again, shoes that could double as a torture device and were kicked off as soon as the wedding part was over, and a special bra thing that I swear almost busted a rib and killed me. To top it all off, my hair was styled to where I looked like I was sporting Jewish man curls.

My gift? ------>the jewelry I wore and a ribbon lei.

The cake was good.

I was a bridesmaid but I didn't have to pay for my gown (although I do remember it was $315-ish); the bride's family took care of that.

This is why I didn't have a wedding...ridonk. Even a small wedding costs sometimes in the thousands of dollars, and for what? So the bride can feel like a princess for a day and give the guests a reason to get drunk. I'd rather keep the cash that would be spent on a wedding and have a nice honeymoon or put a down payment on a house. To each their own; some women dream of that day starting early in their childhood.

Have fun at the wedding, dapper man.

I've paid a couple hundred bucks a few times. It sucks. Then I spend $0.99 on a storebrand card that says something along the lines of: to the newlyweds, your slightly overpriced wedding gift was me showing up dressed. Best wishes.

Bout $100 bucks for my tux in 1988....I bought one in 2001 to have, have worn it twice (In 2001)...but spent $150 for the shoes, ties, 2 shirts, jacket....still fits!

When my last child got married, i think the tux were about 80 a piece and the shoes about 20..  That was in the 80's.

i was a maid of honor and a brides maid once....when i was a moh..the bride did a vintage wedding theme,,it was very cool..she paid for my dress and it was not very much,,,,we found in on melrose ave in La,and back then it was the place to shop for vintage clothes....everyone tried to stay in the same pink/salmonish colors,it was really fun......the 2nd time the bride and her hubby paid for everything,,i think they raked up a 30,000 tab...and im with jess on that one......i would much rather spend it on a holiday or  a home

I was in my sisters wedding, but I think my parents took care of the rental for me. I was also in my wife's brothers wedding, but can't remember what that cost me. Maybe I just got too drunk at the reception and damaged my brain. Both weddings were huge and a lot of fun, but lots of cash dished out for each. My wedding was very small with just a few freinds and family. Ten years later it seems like it was the right decision.

No one in their right mind would ask me to be a bridesmaid... or groomsman.

When I got married, we paid for the bridesmaid dresses and the tux rentals.   I think we paid about $500 for it all.  Fortunately, we knew a seamstress that made the dresses though, so all we paid for is the material.  We were even cool about it by choosing a colour for the dresses (sapphire blue) to which the dresses were able to be worn by the lovely ladies for several different occasions--after the lace was removed from the sleeves....LOL!

Rented one last year for a friend, for $100. It looked awesome!

You don't wanna know what I paid...

BTW, I am sure you can find a used tux for around $10-20 at any consignment shop, which still most likely has less wear than a rental.

The two that I've been involved with were paid for by the couple getting married. So, I never really thought about it. I have had to rent a tux for other occasions (who-the-eff owns one??) and it was $250-300, but that was in Canadian dollars.

a yellow southern belle dress $250 in 1978
a blue southern belle dress with matching hat $ 345 in 1979
A puke green sheath $300
dresses were long enough I could wear my converse underneath...I paid for none of them and they all went to goodwill immediately after use....

In Mexico is not very common that bridesmaid thing, but in case the bride wants her best friends to wear the same dress just as an ornament to her wedding,  they pay their own outfit, sometimes is the same style and color, sometimes it's just the color.I haven't been asked to do that, thank God, I like to wear what really suits me.

been a groomsman about 6-7x and the tux was always about 1-$200. My 1st mariage was done in Military dress unifiorm and son;s mother got married with an off-white  (egg shell) colored form fitting dress (couldnt wait to offically consumate that day), my secind marriage I had to rent my tux because our colors was grey and  peach. The Tux cost me about 250 to rent, her dress was 3K and my groomsmen was about $175. My last wedding was a negiotiator's charm - - 150 ppl for 5K and the catering hall did everything. Chapel, reception, open bar, open buffet. The only thing I had to spupply was the Minister( wife's cousin) and DJ ( nephew).looking back I feel bad we grew aoart, both families still talk about this weeding 13 years later

The last wedding I stood up in I had to pay around $200.  The worst part is that they were sh** colored brown in color.  I would of rather of rocked the orange tux Lloyd Christmas wore in Dumb and Dumber.  I would of stood by the bar and "put out the vibe" much better!

Always a bridesmaid, never a bride.. I've been a groomsman in 6 weddings at $150-200 a pop... plus bachelor party festivities, plus hotel and other expenses..
At least I've been in a lot of formal group photos... ugh
Hopefully the future ex-Mrs. Stoney either doesn't want to get married or isn't against eloping and getting married by a sherpa

Well, it's good to see the folks in the pic didn't skimp on the beer...

I bought a tux for around $100 because some of the places I play requires 6 penguins who can play musical instruments.

191 bucks is a lot of money. You need to take lots of pics and post them in the Q so we can look at them and say 'd*mn... he had to pay 191 bucks to where that?'

I've been in 3 weddings  The first one I never saw the bill for my dress, shoes( which were 2 sizes too small, but the bride wanted us to all have the same shoes) jewelry, hair and makeup.  My parents paid for it all.

The second wedding I was in was my own.  I paid for my own dress and wedding... it was in my parents back yard.  I had the girls get their own dresses ( which were on clearance but PERFECT for 30.00 a piece.  My parents ended up paying for them all)  No shoes, we were all barefoot, and I bought them all jewelry.

The 3rd wedding I was in, my whole family was in it.. so after all the bills were paid for my dress, shoes, hair... my kids clothes and my husbands tux rental... I could have bought the brides dress.

Umm...Marcus?  I wonOWN one....(see post #8).  Prior to owning it, I'd seem to go to "Black Tie Optional" affairs about 1-2 times/year....since I bought it?  ONLY 2!!! 10 freaking years!!
