nerds anonymous Photonerds, geeks, doofi...lend me your ears.

i think it's safe to say that not one of us on here isn't a complete nerd. so here is the official support poll for your nerdy indescretions. it's important that we don't fight what brings us together as one, but embrace it.

life is a cookie.

nerds anonymous Photohi, my name is leigh (hello, leigh...) and i have been a nerd for precisely 27.512328 years. contrary to popular belief, i'd rather play chess or read a book on a friday night than get pants-sh!tting drunk and do stupid stuff. i play video games, i love cooking and inventing recipes, one of my favorite channels is animal planet and i dig learning foreign languages. i am a subscriber to the houston chronicle, i'm a vault of baseball numbers, and i can look at a billboard, packaging, tv ad, etc and identify the font in under ten seconds.

what makes you such a dork?

Hola, me llamo es Oddfool.

I have been a nerd/geek for 40.8849315068493 years.  I play games that encourage strategy and thinking.  I enjoy computers and reading.   I especially enjoy solving puzzles and brain teasers, and trying to solve problems dealing with numbers and computer code.  I was solving sudoku puzzles before they went big publicly.  I love playing computer games for all hours of the night.   For a good portion of my primary and secondary school years, I have been a special type of geek, I was a band geek.  Now, I am a band parent raising my own little band geek.

I worked very hard not to become a nerd, but I love nerds and geeks alike. (I just told my work boyfriend today that his comic book geekdom is so hot.) I am in love with crossword puzzles and cryptograms. I also play video games. I can do all of that for hours at a time. Sometimes all night. I LOVE trivia more than people. I also heart documentaries about people. I'll read a really good book in about 3 days, sleep be damned.  I'd rather do any of that than go out with people. I'm also a Friends and Sopranos geek.

Hi, my name is Jess. More of my friends live in my laptop than in the real world. I spend most nights sitting in my big fluffy chair playing on the internet, after I just spent the day working...on the internet. When I'm not watching sports, I'm hooked on forensics, law, and medical shows. The ID channel is my fall back when nothing else is on (and sometimes even when there are other great shows playing). When I'm not watching this type of stuff I'm reading about it. I own every season of my favorite shows, including but not limited to Friends, Ally McBeal, Psych, and Dexter. I love board games and puzzles, video games and my DSi. I'm like a little kid when I go anywhere...I can't stand still and I can't walk down an aisle without shimmying, bouncing, twirling, or dancing in any way. I can't walk past a mud puddle without stomping in it or walk by a sprinkler without running through it. I love astrology and other "magical" stuff.

There's more, but I'll quit now before you all disown me.

Bonjour, Je m'appelle Lee/Woody

I've been a nerd for about 98% of my life. I enjoy card games, chess and any board game that involves lots of strategy like "Risk". I spent a good portion of my youth playing video games and I still do. Was never much of reader, unless you count magazines and biographies about sports figures. I love stats but hate math (go figure) I absolutely love history mainly WWII and the Civil War, I could spend hours watching the Discovery Channel, Animal Planet and the History Channel. Word games impress the sh*t outta me.

The biggest thing that makes me a nerd is "I was a virgin  until i was 22"

ni hao, wo jiao Jow.

I am a History Channel, Discovery Channeland TLC Channel nerd. I also am a big time sports nerd, I can spend hours reading about and watching games. I can spend hours up on hours at a Baseball Diamond and never get tired of it. I am a total neat freak, I can't stand trash or anything out of place (for a long period of time, like 10 minutes or so).

My name is Chad.

What makes me a nerd?
- I get excited when McDonalds offers the McRib
- I collect Hot Wheels and related hot wheel accessories
- I don't care for porn
- I spend about 15 minutes a day reading what some nerds on a sports web site write and giggle
- I like Battlestar Gallactica (the original series)
- I know the difference between a prit, a marley and a kong  (I like to play 'keepsies', a loathe 'quitsies')
- My favorite show is Big Bang Theory
- I sometimes snort when I laugh
- seriously though, I think I'm pretty cool

Glenda, used a "star date" which means the whole date in reverse of the way we do in everyday use.

Leigh, was referring to the date 11    /      9      /     3
                                                   year /  month  /    day

I think anyways.

Hi, my name is Debi and I am a nerd.

I watch the History Channel, the Discovery Channel, and Animal Planet, all before most network TV.  I can sit at home watching them without ever turning on a Network channel.  However, I would rather read a book and read an average of 2 hours a day, sometimes a LOT more.  I read anything.

I like to play games on the computer, and mostly strategy games.  Games that are luck only bore me before very long, but strategy can keep me occupied for  hours.

Oh yeah, and I ALWAYS have a pen in my pocket at work

I am not a nerd, I am just here to make fun of you all and give you wedgies!

And Keigh your options made me think of this song!

"My Name Is"

[Chorus (2x)
Hi! My name is.. (what?) My name is.. (who?)
My name is.. [scratches] Slim Shady
Hi! My name is.. (huh?) My name is.. (what?)
My name is.. [scratches] Slim Shady

Ahem.. excuse me!
Can I have the attention of the class for one second?

[Eminem:]
Hi kids! Do you like violence? (Yeah yeah yeah!)
Wanna see me stick Nine Inch Nails through each one of my eyelids? (Uh-huh!)
Wanna copy me and do exactly like I did? (Yeah yeah!)
Try @cid and get f**ked up worse that my life is? (Huh?)
My brain's dead weight, I'm trying to get my head straight
But I can't figure out which Spice Girl I want to impregnate (Ummmm..)
And Dr. Dre said, "Slim Shady you a basehead!"
Uh-uhhh! "So why's your face red? Man you wasted!"
Well since age twelve, I've felt like I'm someone else
Cause I hung my original self from the top bunk with a belt
Got pissed off and ripped Pamela Lee's tits off
And smacked her so hard I knocked her clothes backwards like Kris Kross
I smoke a fat pound of gr@ss and fall on my a$$
Faster than a fat b!tch who sat down too fast
C'mere slut! (Shady, wait a minute, that's my girl dog!)
I don't give a f**k, God sent me to piss the world off!

[Chorus]

[Eminem:]
My English teacher wanted to have sex in Junior High
the only problem was, my english teacher was a guy
I smacked him in his face with an eraser, chased him with a stapler
And stapled his nut$ to a stack of papers (Owwwwwwww!)
Walked in the strip club, had my jacket zipped up
Flashed the bartender, then stuck my d!ck in her tip cup
extraterrestrial killing pedestrians r@ping
lesbians while they screaming at me: "LET'S JUST BE FRIENDS!"
Ninety-nine percent of my life I was lied to
I just found out my mom does more d*pe than I do (Damn!)
I told her I'd grow up to be a famous rapper
Make a record about doing drugs and name it after her (Oh thank you!)
You know you blew up when the women rush your stands
And try to touch your hands like some screaming Usher fans (Aaahhhhhh!)
This guy at White Castle asked for my autograph
(Dude, can I get your autograph?)
So I signed it: 'Dear Dave, thanks for the support, A$$HOLE!'

[Chorus]

[Eminem:]
Stop the tape! This kid needs to be locked away! (Get him!)
Dr. Dre, don't just stand there, OPERATE!
I'm not ready to leave, it's too scary to die (F**k that!)
I'll have to be carried inside the cemetery and buried alive (Huh yup!)
Am I coming or going? I can barely decide
I just drank a fifth of vodka -- dare me to drive? (Go ahead)
All my life I was very deprived
I ain't had a woman in years, and my palms are too hairy to hide (Whoops!)
Clothes ripped like the Incredible Hulk (hachhh-too)
I spit when I talk, I'll f**k anything that walks (C'mere)
When I was little I used to get so hungry I would throw fits
HOW YOU GONNA BREAST FEED ME MOM? (WAH!)
YOU AIN'T GOT NO T!TS! (WAHHH!)
I lay awake and strap myself in the bed
Put a bulletproof vest on and shoot myself in the head (BANG!)
I'm steaming mad (Arrrggghhh!)
And by the way when you see my dad? (Yeah?)
Tell him that I slit his throat, in this dream I had

[Chorus]

Hi, my name is Eric. I have thick glasses like a nerd. I was a smartypants in school, and ended up with a degree in a nerdy major (accounting). I watch Jeopardy every night, keep score as I watch, and get mad when I don't do well. I'm currently reading the 700 page Baseball Prospectus annual, and went to a book event across the city Monday night. I also wax poetic about IndyCar racing and the Indy 500 in a way no one else under the age of 40 who's not from Indiana can do.

My brain is full of "Only for Game Night Uses Trivia" info and sports facts. I can hear a song and tell you the movie it's from. I love math------>my favorite is fractions. I can make up a story to teach any math concept without any prep work----->K-5.....haven't done the higher stuff since college, so don't ask. I'm a huge war/history buff..........currently I am reading all I can about Lincoln and the history of education in America (). I wear glasses, put my hair in pig tails at least twice a week for work, love puzzles and those brain teasing gadgets for kids (have a ton in my classroom and I will spend hours figuring them out before having my kids do them). I love creating stats and formulas in Excel
I can do math in my head in a matter of seconds.....well not the really hard stuff, but, you'd be surprised.
I, like Stoney, tend to keep score of baseball games, if I am watching it at home.......too many beers and b*tches to worry about keeping score at the game
i love to cook and bake, which, I don't consider nerdy, but, anyways.
I wear black Nike socks when I play softball and they have the R & L on each sock and I have to make sure I have the Right sock on the Right foot and the Left sock on the Left foot (superstitious)

Just as Joe, I love to watch Discovery, History and National Geographic channels and sometimes I play some games and trivias on their websites (I've learn some cool stuff there) Hate soap operas and those TV shows with a lot of drama and/or romance. Hate "romantic comedies". I love to read magazines with the latest news about science and technology and I love sci-fi movies. What is more, my sex symbols are Dr. Hawass and Josh Bernstein, both archaelogists and Investigators, totally them.

My name is, John...Aka : Tiger Pride.

I've played video games since 1985. However until I played 'Mike Tyson's Punch-out" in 1987, there was never the true competitive feeling there. I knew I could get to level 8 in Mario Bros. but that was as far as I could get. (It broke me mentally) I beat Mario Bros in 1989 and dared any challenge for the video game. But Mike Tyson was the only guy I never defeated on Punch-Out. It wasn't just something mental, because I lost to Mr. Dream in the non-Tyson version just the same.

When I found the Sega Genesis I never went back to Nintendo anymore. Those of you who remember Mortal Kombat for each console, will remember the blood code was only on the Sega game. Still there was no game I ever played that had the fun factor of Punch-Out. The comical opponents that seemed to get more serious looking as you won. I love the Fight Night series now, although I'm yet to get the new Champion edition. I like fighting fighters from different eras, and the graphics are second to none.

I like reading a good book that interests me, and perhaps that's why I've read lots of Stephen King. I know the book Christine inspired me to write myself. Not because I thought I could do better, but because a 10 year old kid just read a full novel. I saw how I found his story to be something powerful, almost like the bible. King scares you in the most underlying creepy way. Sometimes the horror was sudden, but mostly it resonated over 200 pages. No matter how far out the stories got, SK always managed to keep the story very real through character. Stephen is the King of horror.

...However if you want to take the kiddie gloves off, check out Jack Ketchum. His splatterpunk style is the result of writers letting go. Not holding any punches, and is going for the kill. It's like, hey middle America, meet these children that murdered grandma, or perhaps you'd like to meet the cannibals in his novel Off Season, which has been released uncut. The first version of Off Season was to gory for publication. You can get that version now, but I'll be honest I'm yet to read it. But I definitely intend on doing so.

I'm not too sure I'm a nerd. Perhaps I have some nerdly tendencies, but I only began doing these things in the last ten years or so. During my teenage years I didn't read a single book that wasn't required by the teachers. Sometimes I didn't read those. I'd give it one chapter to kill someone, or do something to creep me out. If it didn't grab me by then I went for the cliff notes. In my twenties I began reading again, and I haven't stopped. I have only written stories since my late twenties, although I had written some stuff earlier as a smaller boy. My imagination could get the best of me back then, and often I scared myself with my own thoughts. I was more afraid of what I could think of than any horror movie. What could scare a child might seem somewhat comical to an adult.

My second book will be available this summer, although it was originally to be released after Christmas I'm confident it will be finished this summer. My first release was thrown together quickly, there are run-on sentences, and other grammatical errors in that book. That book is not what readers can expect from my next book. Not just because my writing has improved, but also because of learning about the splatterpunk type stories. Whereas I've not taken the gloves off, I have put more tape under them for impact. I've indulged in some of the taboo of society, and I have taken some of my newer writing down the path of sickness that some might not enjoy. I've opened up doors that some of you hoped didn't exist. It's like Ted Bundy meets the Texas Chainsaw Massacre on a crack binge, and it's done on the most simple form of storytelling. Where you wouldn't want your middle school child finding the short stories, they could easily digest the sickness within. I want to scare you, but if I cannot do that, I'll happily make you puke.

Yes and yes.

Why am I a nerd?  Is this really necessary?

1.  I think Marcus' Robofrige is super cute.
2.  I, too, am a book nerd and read way more than normal people (like during down-time at work, and during commercial breaks ... even when I have company) ... and I even read some textbooks like some other nerd around here.
3.  I love video games.
4.  I love word puzzles, crosswords, brainteasers, critical thinking questions, and have several SAT/LSAT prep books that I go through when I'm bored.
5.  I'm a sucker for random history channel documentaries (I'm a history geek, in general).
6.  I want practically everything on www.thinkgeek.com
7.  I'm like Rainman when it comes to Jeopardy, Trivial Pursuit, and Wheel of Fortune.
8.  I sing and dance in my kitchen when I'm cooking like a total tool ... often to Glee tunes.
9.  I'm still a comic book nerd, love superheroes, zombies, and all things fantastical/mythical.
10.  I geek out over horror movies.

(I think 10 is enough ... for now.)

My name is Rob and these are the reasons I believe I am a nerd:

- I collect Pez Dispensers (I got thousands of them- 98% of them unopened and some date waaaay back)
- I collect  Baseball, Football, Hockey, and Garbage Pail Kids Cards
- I study and read psychology books religiously
- I come up with my own theories and have written many books on human behavior (that I have done nothing with)
- My favorite movie(s) are the Back To The Future Trilogy and incorporate and quote lines from these movies as much as possible in every day conversation (along with Seinfeld)
- I taped every episode of Seinfeld as it came on new and then once they came out on DVD, bought the whole collection but refuse to throw away all the hard work i put into the VHS recordings
- I collect vinyl albums of my favorite bands
- I sometimes design and create new logos for sports teams (even though none of them are currently looking for a new logo)
- I enjoy playing Bingo
- There is a narrator in my head to tell the story of my life as it happens (similar to the Wonder Years)
- I play video games like they are going out of style- and I yell at the character or player(s) when it doesn't do what I thought I told it to do
- Amusement Parks are too cool for me
- When I attend all Iowa Hawkeye football home games, I also listen to the play by play on the radio with my headphones (on away games and their basketball games, I turn the volume down on the tv and turn up the radio to listen, but the radio is always in the other room)
- I am usually attracted to the "nerdy" type chicks
- If I have to cut something, I try as hard as I can to cut it exactly on the lines
- I am the whitest of white guys and can't dance to save my life

Woh, I didn't realize I had this many things down- I could actually go on and on, but I think you get the idea.

Hi, My name is Kurt and....I am a nerd

I have a memory for dates-if you give me a date in my lifetime from about 13 years to the present, I can almost instantaneously tell you what day of the week it was on, what the weather was like, and often what I did that day and the days before and days after it.
I have an undergraduate degree in chemistry and actually saw an opened World Book Encyclopedia on the letter C-calculus-started reading the article and REMEMBERED that sh!t even though I hadn't looked at it in 20 years
I like to play with feet (not really-just my job)
I LOVED playing video games...until my son came along and kicked my a$$ at most every one....still love to play when I think of it
I like to read books-mostly non-fiction political books
I keep track of my gas mileage in a little book, and figure out the MPG, the Yearly cost for gas, the avg. price/gallon
When I was on the baseball team in college, I was the KING of music trivia on the bus rides to away games...artist AND title.  I was the quickest one to answer.
I'm sure there's more....

Me Llamo Juan,

I've been a geek for approx 30.1828654638 years and I've loved just about every minute of it.  I was the kid that would challenge you to an erector set building contest.  I watched Sesame Street for the educational value and I knew it at age 4.  I actually enjoyed the whole concept of homework and couldn't sleep the night before a science fair.  But don't get it twisted, I would bust that a** on the football/baseball field and basketball court.  Nevertheless, I used to have the nickname Encyclopedia Brown because of my nerdish ways.  Couldn't care less, though.  My grown up nerd activities include fantasy sports, playing scrabble/angry birds on my phone like it's my job, and reading the newspaper cover-to-cover every Sunday morning.  I gotta run....I'm gonna go watch Star Wars on my Betamax.

I can't drive a stick-shift (still) but I  am pretty sure I can now tell you how a clutch works.
IE:   Laurel:  So, if I need to use the brakes do I have to push in the clutch?
Rob    :  The clutch presses against the flywheel when you push it, creating friction, thus slowing the motor, blah, blah blah.
Laurel:   Sooooooooooo, if someone pulls in front of me, do I have to push in the clutch and brake at the same time?
Rob:       The flywheel is spinning, when you push the clutch in, it presses against the flywheel and slows the motor, etc

Oh yea, my apologies for not putting more of a division in the distinction between the phrase itself and the manner of the Klingons versus their house structure (more closely associated with clans) and the famous blood-feuds of the old Norse culture.  Ironically, it was a blood feud that "motivated" Eric "the Red" Thorvaldsson (Leif Erikssons father) to leave Iceland and settle in Greenland.  A great many of the 'codes and virtues' and very direct association between blood-letting for the breech of such for dishonourable actions were generated.

Oh, and I cut 12" of my hair to send to Locks of Love.  Now my hair is just to the middle of my shoulder blades....

Umm..i also have to have full sets of things. I can't have 6/7 of an artist's albums even if they suck. Once I have 2, I must have them all. Same with movies, I have to have them all (sh*tty sequels whatever) or I can't rest. Also, when i play games, I have to collect everything or I have to go back and get it once I finish. Example? In black ops, I think I am short 2 recon items.... i must go back and find them, or I will lose my mind. This is normal, right?

i am so not a nerd....just coz i play chess, have read every michael crichton novel, take accounting classes online, know which college quarterbacks lead the nation in passing efficency, spread my fingers to do the vulcan greeting like spock, and factor trinomial equations just for fun does not mean i'm a nerd...so there !
