(DIY) Do It Yourself Projects (Edited 05/09/11 03:27PM by Kenne)
Are there any projects around the house or elsewhere that you did yourself?
  • If so, what are they?
  • How long did it take?
  • What materials did you use?
  • Did you receive help from others?
  • Has it stood the durability test of time?
  • Do you think it's better quality than something that is store-bought or pay-serviced?

Besides assembling furniture that I bought, I don't think ANY of the projects I've attempted myself have worked out well.

I'm currently working on a mini-bar for my dining room, using mostly wood and scrap steel. Also planning out an indoor fake trees project. Most of my DIY's have been either car related or involving art.

I used to several minor projects as a kid, including a hoover chair that floated with a vacuum cleaner engine. It didn't last more than a few days though.

i shaved the roomie's dog. something best left to the experts. i think the other dog teases him about the back of his head because i wasn't born knowing how to "taper."

I start a lot of DIY's but I never finish them. Usually I donate my half-done mess to someone who actually wants to finish it, or throw it out. The only thing I have left to finish are some blankets I started edging for my daughter before she was born...10 years ago.

I've put IKEA pieces (shelves, computer desk, nephew's bed, great niece's crib thingie) together by myself. So far they have stayed in tact.

Well back in the olden days you had to do most everything yourself.  My father-in-law build our house with our help.  There's not much i haven't had a hand in trying.  I never did any electrical work by myself, but i helped lay carpet, tiles, hang sheetrock, sand and paint and paint some more.  I even got on the roof and nailed shingles.  No wonder i am so tired and give out.

Any home DIY projects that I do should come out good since I have been paid to do them during as a job at some point in my life. The one I was most proud of was my rear disc brake job including calipers.

I love to do it myself.... I've painted a whole house (inside), put down laminate flooring, tiled, patched holes in wall, fixed minor leaks, put my gazebo up, and I'll attempt to put almost everything together myself. Like I said when this was asked a little while ago, my dad was a carpenter, so it's what we did.

If I only had the physical strenght to do it, I'd do a lot of things by myself, but I'm happy if I can plaster a wall, paint or repair something, see what's wrong with electricity sometimes, things I can do I take care of them

I've done all sorts of repairs, painting, minor plumbing, sprinkler repairs, some concrete work, and a lot of electrical work (since that's the trade I learned and been involved in for over half my life)..
My projects for the summer include building a setting area/patio in my backyard complete with a grill enclosure and fire pit, and a bar in my sunroom.. we'll see how that goes

I'll be your CABANA BOY

I've put in a new ceramic tile floor in my sunroom
I've replaced my bathroom vanity and medicine cabinet and toilet and hooked up the piping for both
I once tore up carpeting and laid a wooden floor.
I've removed and hung light fixtures
I've installed a new kitchen sink and garbage disposal
I've helped put a new roof on a house

I've repainted a bath tub after a 12 hour day of drinking many beers and doing many shots.....never again!!

I am usually working some kinda something somewhere. I like keeping two or three rolls of duct tape close by...

My dad was a carpenter and I worked during the summer months assembling whatever he had me do.  I helped build his house.  When I was a teenager, my brother and I built two bedrooms in my mom's basement and did the electrical wiring ourselves.  I also worked on the pit crew of my cousin's stock car, so I learned a lot of mechanics.  I've done a lot of vehicle repair on my own vehicles and on friends'.  I've built bird houses, planters, replaced windows, replaced bathroom and kitchen faucets, replaced a toilet, and built a few pieces of furniture, most notably my computer desks, my bedroom furniture and both kid's beds.Right now I have a wishing well planter I'm working on..................

Eight weeks ago? How did I miss this poll? (Maybe, like Austin Powers....I should've tried foreplay first when he missed her "machine gun jubblies)

Anywho,

Laminate flooring, changed all switches in house to the rocker-type switches, ceiling fans, tub surrounds, vanities, sinks, garbage disposals.....though I'm not a big FAN of these things, all my wife has to do is say "I'll hire someone", and I WILL figure it out!
