Beat the Heat
No , this isn't a thread about the Chicago Bulls, it's about Summer being right around the corner and
time to start changing the daily routine outside to adapt to hotter weather.

What are some things you do to keep cool during the heat while indoors and outdoors?

I spend as much time as I can swimming. Sometimes during my lunch break I even go down to North Ave. Beach and jump in the water.

Until we moved to Florida I didn't have to worry about this...it never gets too hot in the PNW. Now though, I have to worry about keeping cool year-round. The A/C is set to 72 (sometimes 70), and we have ceiling fans going all the time to circulate the air. Outside...well...considering the water is like bathwater, it's not really refreshing. I haven't found the trick to staying cool outside; just the trick to making it tolerable. Margaritas, pina coladas, daiquiris...anything frozen and blended, and preferably alcoholic (that makes it so even if you can't cool down, you don't really care as much anymore). Oh  yea...and sarongs.

Already starting to see some 90's temps down here on the bayou and its just gonna keep on gettin hotter of course.  Means less golf and earlier tee times on the days i do play to help beat some of the mid day heat , also more frozen drinks when outside but mainly snocones and smoothies with the occasional hurricane or long island iced tea mixed in.  But some perks to the summer heat is ya can find a semi cool shady spot to sit back and fish or sit under the patio with the fans and cook some jambalaya or gumbo it can be a kind of lovely day !

But also higher electricity bills which is a pain for us all in the high temp area's

I usually water my shirt down before going outside, that helps keep the body temperature down for over an hour. Wetting the back of my neck or covering it helps also, as the body temperature control system is located here.

I have to precautionary measures with my car, like putting a foil screen up in the windshield and letting the car air out before getting in.

On days over 110' or 115' I try to avoid going outside completely, unless it's business-related and I just wait until night time to go shopping. The weather can still remain at 105'f after midnight in the AZ Valley.

I've actually heard that hot coffee and hot tea do help the body stay cool in hot weather. I haven't figured that one out yet but when it was explained to me it did kind of make sense (something about warming the body's core temperature, therefore making the outside temperature seem cooler - using an example of the fact that we get chills when we have a fever)

I still don't recommend it, coffee will only dehydrate you. If you drink lots of water afterwards, then it should be okay, but that' going to drop your temp back down a bit too.

Not that it will ever get TOO hot for me, but when it warms up we go quadding, golfing, biking, swimming, camping, etc.  Our temps only get to the 80's, I don't think it has ever hit 90 here.  When I visit down south, we spend most of the time in the water.

I stay inside with the a/c running.

Winters here, Summers there. There ya go

I think there's only a 15 degree difference or so between the summers there and winters here.

Like we did on Tank Hill, drink plenty of water and stay in the shade if needed.

I beat the heat by long hrs @ wrk ( free A/C), plenty of liquids and numerous weekends at LI's (Long Island- NYC suburbs)

In all seriousness, I blast the A/C while inside and try to hit the beach as much as possible.  It was 95 in South Haven yesterday and this guy got FRIED.  Note to self - wear sunscreen.
