How big of a Price for a Tribute to the Fallen?
Read the Article:

Several NFL players are openly tweeting their plan to fly a finger in the face of the NFL by wearing "unapproved" articles with their uniforms this weekend, in tribute to the fallen victims of the 9-11 terror attacks.  Check out this article, which includes pictures of the gear, and tweeted quotes from some of the players...

http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/blog/shutdown_corner/post/NFL-players-may-be-fined-for-wearing-unauthorize?urn=nfl-wp6799

Now, most of you know that Ol' Cactus Jack here usually reserves his opinions to himself, not being the outspoken type.  However, in this situation, the right thing to do is to RAPIDLY approve this gear for this weekend!  If not, then its just another example of why Roger needs a boot up his a$$.

I have no doubt in my mind Goodell will issue fines (ok maybe he'll grow a conscience between now and then). Which is ridiculous. They can wear pink throughout the month of October for breast cancer awareness (which is awesome), but they can't have one weekend to pay homage to the fallen on the ten-year anniversary of the most tragic event in the US? There shouldn't even be a question about allowing them to wear whatever gear they want in remembrance.

That has angered me. Seriously, like the article says, they were allowed to wear pink for a whole month. This is one f**king day, THE f**king day to be exact. This is in no way the same as Manning trying to commemorate a player's death. It is a national affair. Goodell needs to think long and hard about it...which of course, will be difficult for him.

I understand contracts and things of that nature that rule the everyday uniforms, and I don't really have an issue with it.  My problem here is that the NFL had no forsight in this situation, and because it was somebody elses idea, they won't go for it.  The thing you bring up about wearing the pink articles during breast cancer awareness is a perfect example.  You know they put thought and planning into it, and they come out looking like the good guys.  How in the hell did they not think about 9-11, knowing full well it was opening weekend.  Its not like it was some kind of secret.  They have been hyping the Jets/Cowboys game for months now, specifically because of the date and location, but not one single person at NFL thought about commemorative gear?????

Exactly. The schedule was out before the lockout was over..they've had MONTHS that they knew that opening day was on the anniversary of 9/11. It's asinine that the league didn't think to do something like this.

I would be shocked if the NFL didn't make an exception for these items. As many have said they have approved pink items for breast cancer awareness, so why couldn't they have specific items like shoes and gloves with american flag logos that are approved to be worn as well?

I agree.
And I have a feeling that since this is already out in the news, the media will have a field day with it IF Goodell ends up imposing fines.  I think he'll end up figuring something out that he'll "approve" rather quickly because the heat he'd take if fines were issued for this would be insane.

The NFL will be paying tribute this weekend, let's not confuse that.

All players and coaches will be wearing this ribbon. Is it enough for you or the players planning on doing their own tribute? Probably not, they are free to do what they like and know the punishment for their actions. To me it is not a big deal, if they choose to pay tribute in their own way, then they need to be ready to pay for it. I have no problem with the players doing it or the NFL for fining them for doing so.

If he doesn't, America should send a couple of Cali fans to pay him a visit...

Fans if you dont believe the pre 9/11 festivities you could track down the realestate broker who took the 3 hijackers to the building by the name of Cora Rivera and her business is Bona Tierra Realty ok

Mm hmm.  Looks like they've approved some 9/11 gameday gear for the players.

I agree. I know damn well, most of the fans will like the idea that the NFL players will be paying tribute, they'd probably be surprised if they didn't.
There are a few "fans" who won't agree, you can see that in the responses on the bottom of the site Cactus-Jack provided. I don't understand the insensitive attitudes about these things. So what, who's it going to hurt? let them wear it.
