 What's your favorite 80's movie?-Scarface

Would you rather have 4 day work weeks or 6 weeks vacation each year?-4 day work week, working in the restaurant industry, it is damn near impossible to get a week off certain times of the year. The majority of 6 weeks of vacation time would go to waste. Not everyone can be a teacher/banker/government worker and have more days off than they work.

Better pizza - NY or Chicago?-Chicago

Best baseball player of all time?-Willie Mays

Better movie villain - Darth Vader or Hannibal Lector?-Hannibal Lector, at least that character is realistic

Not to mention foul poles weren't very high back in the day.  When a ball would hook into foul territory, it was called foul even if it was fair when it went over the fence....had there been higher foul poles, it's been estimated Ruth would have been credited with up to 60-70 more home runs.  It's been a while since I read that (in SI For Kids IIRC) so don't quote me on all of it, but I'm pretty sure it's somewhere in that ballpark (pun intended).

Nick - I think most of us are used to 5 day workweeks which is why I went with 4 day workweeks (which I prefer).

How many do you think Bonds would have hit if he played in an era where the fastest pitch was clocked at around 84mph? And I'm not convinced that if Ruth played in today's game, he wouldn't be anything more than a AA back-up outfielder at best... dude was a fat, lazy, slob!

4 day workweeks are the shizzle.....got to do it last year for a few months and the week just flew by when I only worked Tuesday-Friday.  That's the other thing I don't get.  When people take 3 day weekends, why not take Monday off?  Fridays, at least in my experience, are a breeze for the most part.

You need some baseball history lessons.

Walter Johnson was throwing around 100mph in Babe Ruth's day.

I don't know where you get your 84mph from. They threw just as hard in the 1920's as they do today.

I also think that if Bonds had stood there and admired his home runs like he did, his career wouldn't have lasted nearly as long as it did because in those days the next pitch would have been a fastball upside his helmetless head.

About the only argument he'd have for Ruth was that relief pitchers were scarce back then, thus making the starters pitch longer and get more fatigued.  Even then, The Babe was on another level.  Dude went from one of the best pitchers in the game to arguably the greatest field player ever.  That's crazy when you think about it.

Walters stuff among others was not only up to speed with today's arms but some say even nastier because well more "substances" made their way to the pitchers mound making it even harder on hitters and helped guys throwing even a little slower.  But sometimes its not worth the effort to point these things out to the more knowledgeable !

And Bonds needed a 20 lb arm guard in today's game so just imagine if he played then

1) No fair J D, too many. But Scarface seems to leap out

2) If I get to keep the 3 weeks of vacation time I have now... 4-day work week.

3) New York, by default (never been to Chi-Town).

4) Best Infielder,  Pete Rose / Best Hitter, Rod Carew / Best Outfielder, Roberto Clemente  (tie)

5) Are you kidding Darth Vader. (Hanibal strikes real fear into me cause he was a crazy/smart/insane/genius/intelligent/madman)

Maybe it was the average hardest pitch, I read in an artilce around the time all the homerun records were being broken by Sosa and McGwire that stated that.  If it's wrong I apologize and further add that I don't care... Babe Ruth was still a slob.

Fact of the matter is, my grandfather is too young to have seen Ruth play let alone seeing him play for myself so I honestly have no idea how good he was or wasn't or how good his competition was or wasn't.  I've actually seen Bonds and Griffey and Clemens and Nolan Ryan play and they were the best that I've seen.  Too many changes to the game have been made for me to ever agree that Ruth was the GOAT, most importantly is the inclusion of Black players.  I think a lot of fans buy into Ruth being the greatest of all time because that's what guys that were born in the early 1900's said.  Personally, I like to think for myself and make my own assumptions and come to my own conclusions.

This is such a subjective and opinion oriented type of debate.  Neither of us will be swayed to believe that either: A) There's a very strong chance that Ruth wouldn't make it in todays game, so therefor he can't be considered the GOAT; or B) Bonds records shouldn't count because he took steroids (alegedly...) and by default Ruth should be the GOAT because a bunch of sports writers in the 20's and 30's said that he was.

What's your favorite 80's movie? I have a few for each category. Here's a few. Platoon, Full Metal Jacket, The Breakfast Club, Hoosiers and Caddyshack.

Would you rather have 4 day workweeks or 6 weeks vacation each year?  I already have five weeks and don't take them, so 4 day workweeks.

Better pizza - NY or Chicago? Chicago.

Best baseball player of all time? Again, I have a few. Can't compare pitchers, to fielding and batting stats. Willie Mays, Ty Cobb, Mantle, Bench, Banks and so on.

Better movie villain - Darth Vader or Hannibal Lector? Hannibal Lector.

You need to read this article!  You are correct! This is a subjective and opinionated question, but, there is too much history that proves that there many other players, who did not use performance enhancing supplements, that put up much better or should I say legitimate stats during their career and especially their prime, than Bonds. This article breaks down his stats, pre and post steroid use.  Bonds was a great player, but, not thee best ever!  He might be the best ever in your lifetime, but, not in the history of baseball.  Plus, he cheated his way to the top.

I get that Bonds was roided out and that most people are going to demonize him for it, but you can really illegitimize every player to some extent.  For example, when Ruth played the only people that played were Middle to Upper class white men from the Mid West and East Coast, and now it's pretty much a global game with players of all races.  There were only 7 other teams that he played all year long, so he was very familiar with every pitcher he ever faced.  There were no 'specialist' pitchers like Mariano Rivera.

My whole thing against Ruth is that the talent in the league back then is nowhere near as good as the talent that came later, and there are guys that have put up numbers as good as him against a much more consistantly good talent... so how can he be considered the best ever?  When people debate the best Quarterback of all time, Unitas and YA Tittle get mentioned but for the most part guys like Montana get the nod as GOAT.  Baseball in the 20's was a lot easier in my opinion than it was even in the 60's.

I get that Ruth was the end-all, be-all in his time but I just can't buy him being the GOAT when soo much was in his favor and guys are putting up comparable numbers in a much more difficult game.

- What's your favorite 80's movie?
I have to go with Caddyshack over Ghostbusters - by a nipple (or two)

- Would you rather have 4 day workweeks or 6 weeks vacation each year?
I would rather work hard for 4 days and get regular breaks.

- Better pizza - NY or Chicago?
Being in Oregon, I only get imports, not the real article...

- Best baseball player of all time?
I think I have to go with Willie Mays. Offense, defense, speed, power... he had it all with no weaknesses

- Better movie villain - Darth Vader or Hannibal Lector?
It has to be Lector. Vader still had good in him...

"NY style" is NOT NY pizza, sir.  If that's the case, then Pizza Hut Deep Dish is "Chicago Style" and it sucks big n**s.

Forget about Ruth for a minute......like I said in an earlier post, there are many more players that were better.  Ty Cobb, Gehrig, Ted Williams, Hank Aaron, Willie Mays are just some of the hitters that had a great career and their numbers would of probably been 1 1/2 -2x better if they had juiced up.

if you look at BONDS pre-roid stats and look in that article as to how those stats were in comparison to players that didn't use roids, you will see that he's not in the same comparison.

Once again... I never saw Williams or Aaron or Mays or Bench or Rose or Gehrig or DiMaggio or Mantle or Sachmo or Jackie play, so I can't say who of those players was the best. I'm not going to just regurgitate numbers, that's retarded because it doesn't take all the factors into account. For example, Gehrig and Cobb never played agianst Black players. You don't believe that Bonds was one of the greatest ever because he juiced, fine, I'm totally cool with that. That's your opinion. However Bonds won 4 MVPs without roids (nobody else has more than 3 btw), hit 30+ home runs for 9 consecutive years without roids, became the 2nd member of the 40-40 club without roids, won 8 Golden Glove and Silver Slugger awards without roids, won the HR Derby without roids, and became the only memeber of the 400-400 club without roids.... and we all knew what he did with roids (can anyone say "762" and "73"?). PLUS... I actually got a chance to see how great a player he was, and that's what I said from the very beginning, he's the best player I ever saw.

- What's your favorite 80's movie? Top Gun or Blue Velvet

- Would you rather have 4 day workweeks or 6 weeks vacation each year?  Well if J is taking the 6 weeks of vacation, I better do the same

- Better pizza - NY or Chicago? NY, If I want pizza soup, I'll order pizza soup

- Best baseball player of all time? Mickey Mantle.. Too bad HGH wasn't prevalent during those times

- Better movie villain - Darth Vader or Hannibal Lector? Hannibal Lector.  You know what you look like to me, with your good bag and your cheap shoes? You look like a rube. A well scrubbed, hustling rube with a little taste. Good nutrition's given you some length of bone, but you're not more than one generation from poor white trash, are you, Agent Starling? And that accent you've tried so desperately to shed: pure West Virginia. What is your father, dear? Is he a coal miner? Does he stink of the lamp? You know how quickly the boys found you... all those tedious sticky fumblings in the back seats of cars... while you could only dream of getting out... getting anywhere... getting all the way to the FBI.

Never said it was NY pizza...just NY style.  It's obviously not the same thing, but it gives you an idea.  Plus, NY style is easier to replicate than Chicago style (and I agree - any "chain" that makes either style is generally terrible).  Not saying NY style isn't good, just easier to "imitate."

Do any places in NY deliver nationwide?  We have a few places round these parts that do it.  I always send some Lou's to my buddy in the AF out west.

- What's your favorite 80's movie? John Hughes.  Seriously, almost all of his movies are like memories of mine.  I feel like I lived them, who doesn't?

- Would you rather have 4 day workweeks or 6 weeks vacation each year?  If I worked I guess I would rather have the 4 day work week.  As relaxing as 6 weeks vacation sounds, it also sounds like the other 46 would be god awful!  That and I would look forward to that 3 day weekend every week.

- Better pizza - NY or Chicago? Chicago.

- Best baseball player of all time? My 11 year old.

- Better movie villain - Darth Vader or Hannibal Lector?  Vader.
