$40 is:
- A monthly bag of dog food (well, just about..it's $46.)
- Half a tank of gas, which can get my husband to and from work for about a week.
- A relaxing night out to dinner with my family at a decent sit-down restaurant where I can be served after working all day
- Four weeks of school lunches for my daughter

I could go on, but I won't.

That's my to and from work, gas money.

Didn't plan on starting a political poll, so let's "try" not to go there.  Think objectively.  Think practically.

Peace on Earth, Goodwill Toward Men      blah, blah, blah

40 bucks is a part of my savings I put aside for the couple months of the year I don't get paid......most of which I use to get things for my classroom for the next school year.

$40 is:

-A *cheap* night out (thank you DC prices)
-Half my weekly groceries or so
-A full monthly payment of one of my student loans
-A bit more than my weekly commuter cost on Metro (this is paid for as a benefit, but as part of this fiasco, the monthly benefit is down enough that it'll be partially out of my pocket now)

There might be more, but I can't think of any right now. I suspect mine will look different than most, but that's living alone in a large city with few fixed costs. I am very, very lucky in that regard.

40 bucks a week:
8 bucks for 8 chicken flatbread things from Taco Bell for lunch
20 bucks for a gas back and forth to work
3 bucks for a 4 blueberry muffin pack at Publix for breakfast
9 bucks for 6 bottles of a good IPA

Yep, that can help.

 $40 a week is:

20--McGangBangs from McDonalds....oh whoops I forgot to add tax. So it's only 19 McGangBangs from McDonalds (Damn you f**king government always taking my money!)
Or
Half a weeks worth of gas money (roughly)
Or
A cheap to average, night out at Smyrna
Or
Over the whole month it's my truck and house insurance payment
Or
2 boxes of beer a week

The people have spoken;

PAYROLL TAX UPDATE: GOP aides say House Republican leaders have agreed to a two-month extension of Social Security payroll tax cuts and federal unemployment benefits.UPDATE According to Boehner, a deal has been reached, but the unanimous consent vote has not been taken. If it doesn't pass by unanimous consent, he will call the House back into session next week for a roll call vote.
If I understood this next part correctly, the House made changes to the complicated reporting requirements for the two month period. If that's factual, then the Senate will also have to vote again. They can get either a unanimous consent vote by phone, or also be called into session.

If the $40 is linked to payroll, it doesn't effect me at all. My income is permanent disability and cash-based fees from umpiring. But $40 would be roughly my electric bill on a "normal" month, gas to get to gigs or son's practices/games, half my monthly satellite bill, 40% of my monthly food allowance (yeah, only get $100 to eat a month!), or 80% of my phone bill.

It would cut out a few xtra beers out each week. On the other hand it could save my kids a 100. a week x tra .

$3.57/gallon? It's about $3 here and that comes to just over 13 gallons. You would only get about 11.
