According to Forbes, Kris Humphries is the most disliked player in the NBA
. At first glance, one might be surprised at all of the vitriol directed towards a guy who has been no more than a journeyman for 7 NBA seasons. Last year was his only year averaging 10 points per game, and he still was a marginal player at best.
Not surprisingly, it has more to do with his off-court reputation than for what he does on the hardwood. Humphries' 72-day made-for-reality TV marriage to Kim Kardashian has made him the target of both NBA fans and reality TV addicts alike.
Last year, LeBron James was far and away the most hated player, thanks to "The Decision," his much-maligned public choice to leave his hometown Cleveland Cavaliers and take his talents to South Beach with the Heat.
Other players in the league have been the target of fan contempt in the past few years for various reasons.
Metta World Peace, formerly known as Ron Artest, ran into the fans and attacked a fan. Tony Parker was married to (and divorced) Desperate Housewives
star Eva Longoria. Kobe Bryant was known for cheating on his wife Vanessa, and they're in the middle of a nasty divorce.
Chris Bosh and Dwyane Wade play on the Heat, which is apparently all it takes to make Forbes' list. Manu Ginobili is known for flopping, Paul Pierce has exaggerated a few injuries in his day and some people have questioned whether Lamar Odom really wants to be a basketball player or a TV star. Possibly worse than all of these, JJ Redick starred at Duke. If that's not a reason to dislike a guy, I don't know what is.
