oh god that was fun to make.

oh! and i'd also play the "booger game" with lucas garcia. he and i were a lewis and clark of sorts except everything green in the playground was boogers and it could melt you down like lava if you touched it. except when we wanted to do handstands. boogers are definitely softer than cement.

Kickball, climbing on metal stuff on the playground, and talking junk to the girls in my classes... I liked those about all the same,.

Tag was NOT my favorite game.  Apparently, as a 1st grader, I used to "tag" the girls on their butt....got in trouble for it and had to stand in the corner of the schoolyard portical for the duration of the recess.  sad

I enjoyed Dodgeball and Kickball.

We used to have a game that we called "Hot Ball". We had a football, and instead of picking teams (we never had enough time), we'd sit the ball in the middle of the feild and anyone could pick it up and run with it
Pros: You could run to either goal line. You kept the ball until you got tired (ie: it gets too "hot")
Cons: There was no "out of bounds" time outs. or blocking. Unitl you put the ball down you were fair game, the center of attention
... That's right.  When you ran the ball, you had no support. Yes, everyone, anyone, could hit you. ANYONE
Good times.

Oh yeah, I'd like to add "King of the Mountain"

FANTASTIC winter game, though you could play on regular hills too....just wasn't the same.

My old man and his friends also created a game they coined "Skonsball"  No idea how they came up with that name, but it's awesome.  Basically you have to find an open field with 5-6 trees in a row (about equally spread apart).  Each person would have their own goal in which they had to protect from other guys scoring goals (by throwing, kicking...whatever).  Same rules apply as "Smear the Qu**r."  Whoever scored 10 goals first won.

kickball was my favorite.

I HATED dodgeball b/c of Andy Alvey, who is hopefully somebody's bitch in jail right now for how he targeted girls and hit them HARD with the ball.  Several girls went home with bloody noses and huge bruises.  At least until the day I got sweet revenge on him and bloodied his nose.  The PE teacher had to pull him off of me and we were not allowed to play dodgeball ever again.
#33 | 919 days ago

I like Kickball and Dodgeball the most, but loved playing pickup basketball and 21. The week they did physical education testing (mile run, sit and reach, pullups, etc.) was a fun, as well as challenging.

Considering the word that keeps getting asterisks out is a slur for gays, the name of the game people keep saying sounds kind of...well...dirty. Perbets.

(btw, I don't remember that game at all...but then, I'd never heard that word until high school either, and by that time the "recess" games we enjoyed the most involved making out or drinking...regardless of gender or sexual orientation)

Had to do a double take on that one... all I got was recess, making out and drinking, then I actually read it instead of skimming over it and it made more sense.

Dodgeball.   (I'm small and agile, so was difficult to hit.)  Nowadays, you can hardly find a school that allows it.

We still play dodgeball at my school, and my daughters absolutely love it. I even had to reschedule a dentist appointment for one of them (not the easiest thing in the world to do) because it fell on dodgeball day. Luckily I had a few of the people who work there in class and they pulled some strings for me.
cool

In junior high(before school, at lunch, and after school) we used to play a more twisted version of dodge ball called poison. Everyone stood facing the gym wall. one person would throw a ball(we used a racket ball), against the wall. That person would be attempting to hit someone with the ball. Everyone would attempt to either get out of the path of the ball or catch it. If you touched the ball(without gaining control) or it touched you. You had to run and touch the gym wall before someone gained control of the ball and threw it at the gym wall. If the ball beat you to the wall, you then had to stand facing the wall and allow the person that threw the ball at the wall to get one free shot at you. That's right you stood there while someone took a free shot at you back with a racket ball.

We  played  kickball,  punchball,  red  rover,  and  handball  since  having  grown  up  in  the  city,  there  was  a  huge  concrete  handball  court  in  the  schoolyard  area.

As for games....... football in the fall, bombardment/dodgeball in PE class, and Baseball in the spring...
#44 | 919 days ago

I was awesome at dodgeball, solely because I was (and am) so small, I was far from the other team's top targets, so I almost always lasted to the end, unless I took one for the team and ran in front and took and onslaught so the team would have balls to work with.
#45 | 919 days ago

My friends and I invented a game called "Kill the Monkey" where we would go to a kid climbing the monkey bars and tickle him or whatever means necessary to make them fall and get injured. I got in serious trouble when one crybaby cracked his head open on the pavement.
#47 | 918 days ago

Bombardment, king of the mountain, tetherball, football, basketball, kickball, dodgeball, tag and red rover were all good games, but a couple of others I remember playing are capture the flag and 4 square.

We also built a skating rink in our recess area one year, so those hockey games were pretty sweet.

#59 | 916 days ago

Just a reminder, folks - the word I keep censoring out with asterisks in the game name "Smear the Qu**r" is a slur and not allowed on the site, even if it was the official name of a game everyone played. Schoolyards aren't necessarily known for being politically correct (or socially sensitive in a lot of ways actually). That word, in that context, is not something we'd see accepted on network television.

Thanks!
