Music Nostalgia
I'm pretty sure we all have certain songs or bands that remind us of certain memorable moments and milestones in our lives. (This poll was inspired by a Music poll Nick posted recently).

I don't necessarily mean what was popular back then, because maybe you weren't listening to the popular stuff or new stuff back during those times. I mean - what means something to YOU for whatever reason, that brings up nostalgia for a specific time...

1. For our HS commencement we had the craptacular 9th grade band play an instrumental version of "Wonderful World" by Sam Cooke. Only about 25% of our parents knew the lyrics and got that we we're basically 'effing with everyone. I was on the grad committee and the popular song at the time was "Everybody Wants to Rule the world" by Tears for Fears, but it wasn't quite trolltastic enough in our opinion.

2. Face down A - - Up, 2Live Crew. I saw them like 5 or 6 times in college. Whoa.

3. Doesn't really apply. I'm dead inside.

4. Sade has been there for every dump and break-up.

5. When I was little ( 3 or 4) my parents would get up Saturday mornings and blast old Motown stuff then sing and dance around while making breakfast. i thought it was awesome.

6. ***Cheese Alert*** (Actually this is Velveeta, but anyway.) Got a mixed tape once from a GF and she wrote what each song was not the name of the song. 'Our song' was "Anything for you" by Gloria Estefan. Who hasn't slow danced with their honey in their apartment to that song? Fellas am I right? [holds up hand for high five...

1 - HS Grad: It's So Hard to Say Goodbye to Yesterday, Boyz II Men - we sang it at grad.

2 - Wild Times (circa 1999-2000): hah...basically anything late 90's pop-ish and dance music - I went clubbin a LOT... or weird stuff (like OMC's How Bizarre). Also - Here I Go Again by Whitesnake (even though it was old), Maria Maria by Santana + The Product G&B...both for reasons I won't disclose.

3 - Special Times: TLC's Fanmail CD, No Doubt and Paramore, Matchbox Twenty, Duncan Sheik and Third Eye Blind (that just made me smile), Glycerine by Bush, Stay by Lisa Loeb, among so many others. I may need to come back for this one.

4 - Rough Times (circa 2001-2002): Mainly classic rock because my rough times were when I lost my dad, and a lot of other junk that year. AFI also, for reasons I won't get into. I can listen to them now and be fine, looking back on that year knowing I grew from it but they definitely bring those memories back.

5 - Parents: Calling All Angels by Train and No Rain by Blind Melon always make me think of my mom, so I use them as her ringtones. My dad....ugh. Pretty much all classic rock makes me think of him. I say ugh because there are times I can listen to certain songs or artists and be fine, and times that they set off the waterworks. Styx and Boston are the main bands, because he always loved both bands so much and I took him to the concerts when I became an adult and had the option. 3 Doors Down also remind me of him (as well as another friend of mine who died way too early). I can't listen to them at all, even though I love them and think they're a great band.

6 - Trev: I have this playlist on my iPod called "The Penguin Mix" (shaddup) and it includes songs that either bring back fun old memories, they remind me of him, or just because I can relate the words to us...a few examples; Green Day - I'll Be There, Godsmack - Awake, Incubus - Drive, Slipknot - Vermillion Pt 2, Smashing Pumpkins - Disarm, Sugar Ray - RPM, Paramore - Brighter, Unwritten Law - Rest of My Life, Foo Fighters - Wheels, Trust Company - Fear, anything by Nelly, Blink, Slipknot, ZBB, Creed, SP, Disturbed, Staind.... I'm so screwed if we ever split up...I won't be able to listen to much.

Thanks, Jess!  heart

This post could be huge if I listed everything that I was into, being the huge music lover that I am...I will make it a short list

1) HS - Graduated in '87, so - Here I Go Again (Whitesnake) / Wild Side & Girls, Girls, Girls (Motley Crue) /  Rock Me (Great White) / The entire Back For the Attack album (Dokken)Land of Confusion (Genesis) / Fight For Your Right (Beasties) / With Or Without you (U2) / Learning To Fly (Pink Floyd) / Touch of Grey (The Grateful Dead) / Sledgehammer (Peter Gabriel) / Welcome to the Jungle (G&R) / Abigail (King Diamond)

2) My wild times? HA! That all depends on your definition of wild!  I can't recall what I was listening to. That was a period that I have blocked out of my life. And if I did hear a song that reminded me of my bad wild times, i usually turn the song immediately.

3) Events I hold dear - Too many to list here. I am a very nostalgic person, so, any song from the mid to late 70's and early 80's that remind me of my childhood (Saturday in the Park (Chicago) / Dirty Laundry (Don Henley) / the entire Back in Black album (AC/DC) / Der Kommisar (After the Fire) / Cars (Gary Numan) any The Cars songs).

4) Rough Times - I Remember You (Skid Row), In Your Eyes (Peter Gabriel), Any song from the Richard Marx album - they all revolved around a breakup from my first true love.

5) Parents - Mom is Billy Joel / Dad would be Credence Clearwater Revival

6) Sig other - Madonna

Aww I need to add Sweet Child of Mine to my #3 too, but not for that reason. That song brings back memories of dancing like a spaz with one of my best friends at the jr. high dances. He and I weren't skrred to dance with the opposite sex like the other kids all standing against opposing walls. We got out there and boogied like idiots.

I don't really associate music with people or events.

My wife is exactly the opposite - every memory has a song or artist attached to it. I guess that is because she had older sisters who were into music so her life was filled with it.

I do remember having a lot of country music in the background of my college years. The whole thing is a little hazy, but I am able to recall the awesomeness of it all.

HS Graduation:

Back That A** Up - Juvenile
Bling Bling - BG
Pretty much anything by No Limit/Cash Money
Blue - Eiffel 65
No Scrubs - TLC (I had a dance move I'd perform @ the club when this song came on.  Don't be hatin'!)
Last Kiss - PJ

Wild times - Nelly, DMX, Jay-Z, The Roots, Bad Boy Bill, Tiesto, Guns n Roses, Oakenfold, and pretty much anything by No Limit/Cash Money.

Life Event - Hmmmm....good question.  I'll get back to you on that one.

Rough Times - I went through a bad breakup back in 2006....and Bob Seger, Merle Haggard, Kanye and Jack Daniels were the only things that got me thru it.

Parents - Dave Clark 5 for mom because she loves telling the story of her date w/ the drummer.  The Beatles or Electric Light Orchestra for dad because he absolutely loves both.

GF - Maroon 5 because she loves that sh*t.

1. Ignition - It came out that year and was playing on the bus driver's radio every single morning.

2. I should've selected artist, because this is anything by Green Day.  My friends now purposely play a Green Day song every time I start to show signs of being drunk.

3. Hell I don't know!

4. probably Hey Jude

5. You're the One that I Want - it was the #1 song the day they got married, found that out at their 25th anniversary party and I can't forget it.

6. I have no significant other.
