Welcome back. This is the part of the locker room where you can sit and chat and chill for a while without offending or being shushed. Maybe you wanna watch a dvd or listen to your mp3. Yes, I rhymed. Something on your mind, post it! Random question, ask it? Hijacking is allowed and encouraged. Join the party, troll around, have a beer. It's cool. All are welcome, but please leave all BS in the hall.

Morning. My life has basically been a country song... and that's the end of that. Fittingly, I was forced to listen to Tim Mcgraw all the way to work (my dad owns the cd :|), and let me tell you, 'Real Good Man' is my new sh**, despite how old it is. Listen to it. Right now! Good sh**, right? I know.

Yesterday's filter probably shouldn't have been the first thread I read on my first day back. Godd**n it, man. Ugh. At some point, I just started to skim but I am so glad people didn't ignore it. I'm assuming it was basically said to incite the convo, which worked, and that's fine but part of me knows that saying "w**back" 27x added to the appeal. I think everyone took into account who said it? Question: If my "ancestors" were brought here "legally" but un (pre-) constitutionally, should I not be allowed to stay here now? For some reason, I asked myself that while skimming. I mean, I've never traced anything so unlike most of you I can't do the whole I'm a black Irish, Italian, Cherokee, mulatto thing. I'm brown but not Mexican, Cuban, Egyptian, or African...wait, Egypt is in Africa.. you know what the f*** I mean; therefore just black, so maybe I don't belong in the Americas? F*** it though, I'm motherf***ing staying. Though, technically.... we are all the product of incest, so aren't we all from the same place? F*** people.

Enough of that bullsh**. I'm still lazy, overweight, tired, and pooooor but I don't want it to be another country song filled day, so be fun and entertain me bitches! Have great days.

Kevin, I missed you. That was random, but as you probably already know, completely true.

Well, I saw the discussion yesterday. Thought 'lawd have mercy'. I can say that a lot of my ancestry left because the potatoes weren't growing well in Ireland. And, 120 years or so later, we still are trying to get potatoes to grow. The squash, tomatoes, zucchinin, and cucumbers are doing well, but d*** those potatoes.

I play outdoors for a benefit Saturday around 6pm... they are calling for 99 degrees. Shoot me.

Later.

1.  Im glad you're back Ashley.

2.  Speaking of country...is Lil Wayne the closest thing the hip hop community has to a country singer?

The best "super hero" movie done in years.  Did a fantastic job of making a victim out of the villian.  No hot chic which sucked.  Nice effects for a low budget movie done in the "found footage" format.

4.  Caught the latest episode of Bill Maher on Demand last night too.  I lost a little respect for Rachel Maddow.

5.  Watching Deadwood in my slow time at work and Calamity Jane has surpassed Omar Little as my favorite TV character of all time.

it tickles me that on the day you talk about country, i wanna talk about rap. i missed you a lot.

i pulled my old computer (aka big electrical filing cabinet for all my music and a version of photoshop that is so fancy, and so large, i can't even use it) down and got into my old music i haven't listened to in years.

i have an artist called "rap" in my itunes. and he's got songs called stuff like wyclef monkey sounds (not racist. he actually sounds like a monkey in it), and sushi's song (cause the sassy saxophone reminds me of my sassy cat soosh. and she's a "prrrrty lady"), and n-a-s-t-y which i still can't listen to all the way through without feeling dirty and having to turn it off but the beat is fantastic. i also

(whoa. i had to go chase a dog that looks just like the wolves kevin costner chases away all bare booty)

have some where i actualy knew the title like halftime and 2 step/walk it out (i actually thought those were the same song). i guess what i'm trying to say is i have a whole electronic trail of evidence that i used to be cool.

...and i know my cool is still in me somewhere cause whenever this stuff gets in my ear hole, i'm all

Today is mani/pedi day with Mariah.  I love it that we finally can spend some time together without having to sleep through some of it.  We're trying to decide what else to do today.  I am not sure there's another movie we can agree on seeing.  We've thought about the Speed Art Museum, which is something I haven't done in a long time.

Gotta get ready for my day.  Y'all behave!

I watched Sorkin's Newsroom show yesterday (the pilot is free in the iTunes store). Having worked briefly in newsrooms, only for a few years out of college (remember when radio stations had newsrooms? anyone? anyone?) and at a bigger deal with CBC TV. I thought the show was nothing like the real thing, but exactly like it. Kinda like the way Friday Night Lights is nothing like HS football really, but exactly like it. Or ER is to doctors or Law and Order is to lawyers, etc. I get it, it's fiction-ish. What's right about it is the walk and talk stuff Sorkin does. Always dead on. The stuff that NEVER happens are the long drawn out philosophical soliloquies seemingly off the top of their heads. When has that ever happened irl? In any situation or job? lol. Generally when you watch a show like this, you automatically identify with a character (I remember being flustered and intimidated like the wide-eyed, blonde assistant) when the show/movie/book doesn't have a clear cut character that that is there to be our point of view. You know the one that asks questions and then someone else explains it in GREAT detail to them. CSI does this. All. The. Time. It makes it accessible. But shows by Sorkin or David Simon's Generation Kill just forgo that, so it forces you to watch without knowing every specific machination of wtf is going on. I prefer that, but I'll watch the CSI's of the world too. The Newsroom is ideological, but it's preachy. It's also insufferable, but with a certain charisma. It's no West Wing, but it's no Studio 60 either. (Thankfully) I think it started out really strong and interesting, but I have the feeling it's going to be eventually widely panned like The Killing say, for exactly the opposite reasons that show is. Why? Because that's just the world we live in and it's just the way we react to everything. I hope I'm wrong.

So there's that.

Howdy..
Ash I'm glad you enjoy my new article series

Jason, I agree with you on Chronicle, I just watched it on Sunday

College Football going to a final 4 playoff is a good start.  The biggest change that needs to be made for the sake of competitive balance is not release any rankings until week 7, and don't let the coaches vote.  There should be a committee formed to generate the rankings who will be required to watch games, and must base rankings on games played in that year, not historical success or a team's potential.

Congratulations to Super Joe Sakic for being elected to the hockey hall of fame yesterday.  I've had the fortune of meeting him and running into him on several occasions around the hockey community here the last few years.. The guy was an unbelievable talent, and is an even better guy off the ice.  Just don't let him run a snowblower

Uh oh, did anyone see the pics of Jenny McCarthy on the cover of Playboy? The computer generated picture looks pretty good, almost made me forget what a raging c**t she's turned out to be in the last decade, but it made me a little nostalgic.  The year was 1994, and I was entering the full swing of finding out about the world.  The Jenny McCarthy playboy that year became my bible of sin.  It was glorious

Today's Retro Movie Recommendation is actually a movie I recently watched for the first time..

River's Edge

1996         Rated R       99 Minutes

A troubled high school slacker, Samson (Daniel Roebuck), kills his girlfriend for no particular reason and shows off her dead body to his friends Layne (Crispin Glover) and Matt (Keanu Reeves), whose reactions vary about whether to involve the police. Based on a real incident, the story is most disturbing because of the students' ambiguous reaction to the crime. Dennis Hopper plays the creepy Feck, with whom Samson hides out for a time.

Cast:
Crispin Glover, Dennis Hopper, Keanu Reeves, Ione Skye, Daniel Roebuck, Danyi Deats
Director:
Tim Hunter
Genres:
Dramas, Crime Dramas
This movie is:
Dark, Gritty
Availability:
DVD availability date unknown, streaming until 6/30/12

Good MORNING!

Hiiii ASHLIE!

So yesterday I had to take something to my sister's place and her place just happened to be close to where Dustin Brown (captain of the mother F**king Stanley Cup Champion KINGS) was going to be making an appearance.............so I thought to myself...."Let me check it out." I did.....I checked it out and kept on driving. Holy Freaking Heck............there was like 400 people in line at 4:30 and the the signing wasn't going to take place till 7 and it was at Sports Chalet. #freakingbandwagon...lol

***Anywhoo.....I got my pic with the cup, so unless I can see it and touch it this time, I'm very good with my post STanley Cup buzz.

Sooo.....Twitter people.....no mention of the Penguins fan who posted her DMs with Joffrey Lupul? Yeah.....I wasn't much interested either.

Speaking of Twitter...........Dustin Brown has stepped up his tweets. He went from boring and lovable to Stanley Cup Winning badass tweeter. Anyone who can post a "Big Head" poster of himself holding the Stanley Cup not once but a couple times (#doesntgetold) is FANTASTIC in my book. I love it.

The Killing and "flawless" in the same sentence? Are you personal friends with Veena Sud? Besties in HS or something? Ma'am I refused to be trolled. Here's my argument(s).

Now as for Studio 60, again awesome concept / horrible execution with the biggest problem being that it was a show set behind the scenes of a SNL type sketch program in which there wasn't ONE good joke in the fake skits. This Louis CK podcast sums up the hate-watch infatuation I had with it. Look I love Sorkin, but that was a whiff. Should have had a longer run to work itself out tho. Of course that never happens to TV shows.

We're no longer friends broken heart. I LOVE Studio 60 and still think it's one of the smartest shows we've had on television in at least a decade. It pushed the envelope - and it was on crappy NBC, which is what I think killed it. NBC is why I thought Grimm would be gone quickly. I didn't care about the fake skits in Studio 60, I cared more about the real show and what was going on. Fantastic.
I agree with everything you just wrote. But I still think it was a whiff and that NBC did pull it too soon, like way too soon. Plus didn't you get the feeling that this was going to be the guy from Friends big one that pushed him over the top? He should be owning the dramedy genre.

I believe the hollywood reporter referred to that particular hot mess as "...a cluster-eff of red herrings swimming around in the constantly overcast plot vacuum that is this show's dead soul." That's some eloquently hateful poop right there. The one thing I think we can all agree on is that Holder needs his own gig. He's awesome. I would totally spin that character off as a private eye or something. Maybe a fish out of water in LA? Lotta temptations in that town for a guy with some demons in his past.

Afternoon Q'ers!

Weather broke here for a few days, but back to the 90's tomorrow.  At least the pool is a consistent 87 degrees.

My son's band, Breathing Blue (http://www.breathingbluemusic.com) just released a CD, available on itunes.  They are playing a show tonight in Point Pleasant (at the beach), then leave for a mini tour of New England (Maine, Cambridge MA, NH), back in NJ, then finishing up in Philly.  Their music is a mix of rock and blues, kind of the best way to describe it.  It's Rock, but not heavy metal...not typical blues, but maybe blues with a rock beat?  Check em out.  Late this summer, they plan to head a little south and a little west.

Which brings me to the office...my son works for me during the day, so i'll be one short.  Hired a new receptionist who is catching on ....SLOWLY....Last Friday, mailman (in USPS Uniform) comes in, hands her the mail.  She then says "Can I have your last name please?" as if he was a patient!  He walked out the door.  She THEN said to my son "What happened to that patient"?  My son said "That guy? He's an a-hole...he walks inn and out of here all the time".......

Thought for the day..."A pet store had a bird contest with no perches necessary"......

Yeah..id like to see a "prequel" of just Holder during his days undercover.   Give it sort of a Rush/Narc vibe and put it on HBO or Showtime so it can be done without FCC regs.

Good day, bitches.
I've been lost for about  98% of this FE so far.  I'm ok with it, though.

Hi Sis.  Welcome back ... it was my "I miss you" Draw Something message that brought you back, wasn't it?  You don't have to say it, I already know.  heart

I still think Jenny McCarthy is FAP-worthy.  She's only a semi-c**t, at times, and that's more of a "guys don't like hot chicks that actually say what's on their mind, act silly and gross,  and don't accept the sex-symbol stereotypes" thing.  Plus, if I was with Jim Carrey for that long, I'd be an a**hole too.

My flowers are looking fantastic.  I will get some pictures so I can brag at my green-thumbness soon.  I'm a bit preoccupied at the moment, I'll get back to you all in a bit.

the only thing that really annoys me about the show is how there is only one person who actually uses her phone and that's linda. and i swear she needs to have "i'll be there" written on her grave. everyone else misses calls constantly. a lot of bad stuff could've been avoided if folks just picked up. jesus.

I just finished a book a few days ago, so I asked a friend what she thinks I should read next.  She sent me a link to a site that lists the top 100 books that everyone should read/have read.

So I'm looking at this list thinking, "I might be retarded."
Then I get about halfway down and realize, "I am retarded."

I haven't read any of them.  OK, I've read a handful, but I haven't read a majority of them.  I haven't even heard of a majority of them.  Am I alone on this?  Look.

I consider myself an avid reader too, and I haven't read (nor do I want to) most of these. I've heard of maybe half...and besides maybe Midnight's Children, I have no desire to read those I've heard of but haven't read already. I could re-read some though; To Kill a Mockingbird and The Catcher in the Rye specifically, since it's been like 25 years since I read those.

Does this list seem a little "chick-drama" heavy? Ugh.

Speaking of chick-drama (but bizarre) - have you read The Bell Jar? If you're looking for a classic, I love that one. It's friggin crazy, makes you feel like you're crazy, but that's Sylvia Plath for you.

I've read a lot of them but in HS or University, but I'm not sure I could totally get into them now. I think Slaughter House Five and The Time Machine could or should be on there somewhere. Also Heart of Darkness at #5? (This one probably made Cormac McCarthy a little uncomfortable when he read it.) That's basically the equivalent of telling people The Bad Lieutenant is #5 on the list of 100 movies everyone should see. They're great, but maybe not for everyone or the faint of heart.

'Sup peeps?!

Just chekin in for a minute.  I watched "The Killing" and thought season 1 was great, but season 2 was AWFUL!!!  I was really hoping that the show would focus on one murder per season and all lead to some f##ked up serial killer.  Needless to say I was really dissapointed when the Rosie Larson case went on for two full seasons, and the Auntie killed her, UUUUUUUGGGGGHHHHH!!!!!!

Janet, I've only read 6 of those books, but I've seen almost all of the movies.  Does that count?

Looking forward to see what the Blazers do tomorrow night in the draft.

Gotta go so I can concentrate on listening to "Ms Fat Booty" by Mos Def

Keep it Classy!!

I don't know if I can read any Sylvia Plath.  Wasn't she, like, the original emo kid?

After perusing the list fully, I think I've read between 5-8 of them.  High school and college are a blur for me, so that's why it's "I think".

Kaleb - You've seen most of the movies?  You're referring to the Jane Austen ones, aren't you?    You might be a bigger chick than I am.  Fantastic.

Marcus - Most of that went over my head since I read about half of  "Heart of Darkness" and haven't seen "The Bad Lieutenant".  I still giggled at your post, though.

She was definitely depressed, but The Bell Jar is her autobiography and is more crazy than anything else. In the book, she goes from being pretty normal, to doing some really odd things - and while you're reading it you don't realize that some of this stuff just comes off as eccentric at first and pretty soon you're locked into her bats**t craziness like it's normal. It's the strangest book I've ever read in terms of how it made me react, emotionally...and I don't generally like the feeling that maybe I should be committed myself, but when a book can do that to me, I consider that a win. I highly recommend it if you're into that sort of thing.

What are you in the mood for? I might be able to come up with something else fun to recommend too.

So far today, I have...
1.  Gotten a mani/pedi.
2.  Gotten drunk for lunch.  (The bartender knew a thing or two about bourbon.  At that point, it was on).
3.  Kissed a girl in public.
4.  Painted some pottery.
5.  Picked up some cat food.
6.  Ran into my brother in law as I was kissing a girl in public AND drunk in pub-lick.  indecision

And not necessarily in that order.

I don't know what was a bigger bust: the Spain-Portugal match, or the annoying Spanish fan sitting three seats from me.

Studying last night was a disaster, as Becker decided to throw in some questions out of absolute nowhere. There had been on indication from the book or lecture that I might have to do the kind of calculations they were asking. At this point, I don't have much choice but to punt that topic. Tonight I get to see if any of the IT stuff got through my thick skull.
RE: Top 100 Books...Lord of the Rings is non-fiction.  It actually happened.  I've even seen the movie.   Geez, get with the times.

Well, a news article today about my kids school.  Last year dirt was delivered to the school, to be used in leveling our football field.  We heard the dirt was laden with rocks, so it couldn't be used on our field.  (Heh, we were thinking "rocks imbedded in the field? That's our home field advantage.")

Well, turns out the dirt packed a bit more than just rocks.    "Soil testing records obtained by 10News showed the dirt is contaminated. Out of 14 samples, 10 showed elevated levels of lead, pesticides -- including DDT -- or petroleum hydrocarbons linked to underground gasoline storage tanks."

So, this dirt has been there over a year.  Sitting at the south end of the field, it formed a huge dam when it rained heavy.  The track was a lake.  And the pile of dirt sits next to a condo complex.

Now for the good news.  After all the recent publicity (Why does it have to take a big news story fed to the public for these things to take place???) the dirt is going to be removed.  I think next week.  And the approx. $500,000 cost to remove the 10,000 tons of dirt supposedly to be covered by insurance.  We'll see.

Sweet crap i think we may be related. #BrotherFromAnaotherMother Ask your folks if they have a French Canadian sister/cousin/relative that married a black guy in the 60's... or if they are related to a black guy who married some french chick. Whatever. Then we can go on the DNA show where (semi) famous people find out who they are related to and what heritage they are, etc. I hoping to add some Irish/German and Iroquois. That's what I get from your profile pic anyway.

Almost all German, with a bit of Russian. So can't help you. My family is lily white with a side of town drunk.
