Welcome back. This is the part of the locker room where you can sit and chat and chill for a while without offending or being shushed. Maybe you wanna watch a dvd or listen to your mp3. Yes, I rhymed. Something on your mind, post it! Random question, ask it? Hijacking is allowed and encouraged. Join the party, troll around, have a beer. It's cool. All are welcome, but please leave all BS in the hall.

I kinda hate cops... but I do enjoy seeing people get pulled over by them for trying to sneak and ride in the HOV lane. Makes me irrationally happy in the mornings. People are stupid.

My back hurts.

When does the NFL football season start?

Hey.

Football is so close. I absolutely cannot wait. I am thinking this is the year. Yeah, I'm tried as ****, but still, it can happen. Go Falcons a ton!

The Braves are winning, just signed Ben Sheets and hopefully his bionic arm. Go Braves.

Those folks I played for last week were snooty to the 5th power, but I love their money. They had a good time and I look for us to return. Fine with me. Go money.

Haven't seen any crazy critters out there so far while posting but the week is early. I gotta tell ya, I am still digging that Groucho Marx cat that came up to me. Go critters.

I guess that's all I have for now, grade me on a curve today. I am exhausted, kinda.

Later.

Sup peeps,

Finally starting to feel like myself again after the bachelor party shenanigans this past weekend.  I went home after work and made sure the couch didn't go anywhere.  Man was it nice to kick back and chillax.  I watched two more episodes of Friday Night Lights (I want to punch that Riggins kid) and then watched Lebron bail out Team USA vs Brasil.  LOL @ anyone that thinks this team could have beaten the Dream Team.

The Cubs are going to trade Dempster and I'm hoping it's to the Tigers for Jacob Turner (their #1 prospect).  Detroit fans stated he was untouchable, but it appears Dombrowski may have changed his stance.  Stay tuned!

Glenda, I know you love the Cubbies, but this is too much.

A woman has been arrested in Chicago for allegedly stalking Cubs president of baseball operations Theo Epstein, according to a published report.

The Chicago Tribune reported Glenda F, 48, was arrested Monday evening near Epstein's five-bedroom home in the Lakeview neighborhood.

According to the report, Kearney told police she had been watching the home and she was "inviting Mr. Epstein to go to church."

Epstein identified Glenda as a person who had been warned about stalking near his home, the newspaper reported.

Glenda, who is from Aurora, MO, was charged with two counts of felony stalking, police said.

The newspaper also reported that she had previously contacted Epstein when he was general manager of the Boston Red Sox and that Massachusetts authorities were called to investigate stalking concerns, but no charges were filed.

All Around The World...It's The Same Song...

Digital Underground was Tha Ish back in the day...

OK...so the USA Basketball teams played last night here in the Nation's Capital (No, I was not there...but the fellas dropped by the crib last night to help christen the new house...lol), and it was closer than expected...they shot horribly.  But being a champion fits LeBron well, and folks were literally moving out the way when he drove to the hoop.  I was impressed.  Then the New vs Old convo popped up.  Honestly, the '92 Dream Team would be a tough out, but this New Crew would put a speed clinic on them - Match-Ups are pretty viable on either side, but speed would be the difference.  I take the New Crew...by 5.  We can discuss...

Obviously, Delta don't like their passengers in Amsterdam - people found needles in the turkey sammiches aboard four different flights.  Guess they want you to fasten that seatbelt and keep that trap sewn shut!!

I say no for two reasons.  One, what the hell does a 10 year old need a celly for?  Two, it sets a bad precedent.  Today's children live in an instant gratification age and it needs to end at some point.

I can see JD's point but our 10yo has a cell phone. It's just a plain old flip-phone, text is disabled on it, and she can only use it during certain hours. She takes it with her when she goes to play with friends and uses it to check in. Then we have it when she gets home. She also keeps it on her when we go to games or theme parks, for "separation safety" reasons. She knows that I can keep an eye on it and if she's calling out to other numbers that aren't on the "approved list" she will get it taken away. Her father and I have decided that in a few years if she wants to text, she can pay for that portion of the cell bill, and she won't have a smartphone until she can pay for it herself, + any additions to the bill.  All of the cell servers have pretty decent parental controls, if you decide to go that way for your grandson you can always take advantage of them!

Well does he live in the city proper?  I suppose a cell phone could serve a purpose if he was in some sort of danger, but then again, nobody I know that grew up in the city had a cell phone back then.

I look at it like this....I was in HS when the cell phone craze began.  Most of my friends had them and I begged my parents for one because it was the "cool" thing to do.  I didn't ask them to buy it for me (ok, I did ask them to initially), but to sign the contract.  I'm sure you already know, but you couldn't get a phone back then without a contract.  My folks said no and didn't budge.  I had to wait until I was 18 and I turned out fine.  I mean, yeah, I'm an as*hole, but that would have happened with or w/o a celly.

My sister and I actually had this discussion awhile back.  She teaches 7/8th grade and is amazed at how seemingly every kid has a cell phone nowadays.  She said her two boys (3 and 4) would not be getting phones until they were at least old enough to drive.  I think that's a good take.  One I'll probably adopt with my own kids.

If used for safety purposes I can agree but with crime rampant in NYC I wouldnt want to draw that attention to him,,, Living in the city proper? This is Crooklyn not Kansas!

Didn't think of that angle.  You guys don't use the term city proper?  It just defines the city limits.

To my knowledge Sprint is the only carrier that has total free mobile to ANY mobile. The others seem to insist it be another on the same carrier.

Last post like this till, early October.

Today they lay Jesus to rest. Being able to call him my friend is an honor, a privilege, and one of the greatest joys of my life. We had numerous fun times together, they will put a smile on my face for years to come. I feel cheated that we only knew each other for 11 years, but there are people that never met you, so I guess I was actually blessed.

Just found this old picture!

Just remember that if he gives the number to his friends that have a different carrier he can be charged when they call or text him.. You'd really need to keep tight reigns on the phone. And if all possible. Totally block data and pictures... Kids 12 yrs old now a days are sending nude pics of themselves to their GF or BF... Not a good thing in my mind..

That would definetely be trouble- he could call anyone anytime while the phone is in his possession. My thinking is for weekends access only when most minutes are free. If  your 13 old created havoc- rampart thoughts running wild for what a 10 year will do

Actually like I was saying, most carriers have awesome parental controls - you can list numbers that he can call and that can call him, put time blocks on phones, disable certain features - and they can't bypass them.

The Cubs have won 12/16 and will be trading Dempster within a few days.  Demps is my guy, but he isn't a part of the future.  I love the direction the team is headed.  Just stop stalking, ok?
#32 | 307 days ago

Q'rs, hows it going? I see the topic is children and cell phones. My two cents: I have a personal GPS for Joshua, because he wanders, that we use when we are at the zoo, amusement park etc. Jack has a cell phone that he uses only during the school year and when we are at the above mentioned places, all for safety reasons. Cell phone providers or at least the ones I have dealt with have great parental controls like Jess said. Maturity of the child, reason for wanting/needing all should go into the decision making process.  That's all I have, except: 23 days til preseason begins, Yeah Football

Hola amigos y amigas!

Lainey~ make his parents decide. A grandparent shouldn't override a parents decision. If his parents said no then let them deal with it.

Marcus~ I'm not sure if you are here yet, but did you see Scott Disick in London?  It was fantastic. We must discuss, "Lord Disick".

I don't have much today, I went to bed early last night and I swear I woke up every hour. For no apparent reason. I need a "good nights sleep".

Aloha everybody.. I love dealing with people from around the world with work, except on a day like yesterday when I'm exhausted and asking everyone every 15 minutes if its nap time.  First phone call was from the east coast at 4:30am.. Then came the calls from Georgia, then everything smoothed out throughout the day and let me get some work done.  Then had a conference call on a couple projects with a company out of LA on the drive home from work.. Then had another conference call with a couple blokes from London at 1am this morning.  You know when you get so exhausted that you're not even tired anymore? Yep, that was me last night.  I don't feel the Mountain time zone is getting the proper respect it deserves.

I need to hit the Best Buy bargain bin sometime this week to see if I can score some cheap Tyler Perry joints.  I don't want Netflix judging me

Now for a song that is so good that they'd never be able to play it on terrestrial radio, one of my favorite tunes ever

Emarosa - Heads or Tails? Real or Not?

You loved it when my heart dropped, you paused, stopped, and walked away
Full of content that it went your way

These cuts that I've caused are never too deep to heal
Peel back the bandage, see a scar from countless careless things

And feel yourself drifting, pulled away

Well nothing feels real anymore
I'm not taking my time anymore
To show you how i feel
To show you who i am
Cause it's locked away

We all need to find our way
Cut the loss, just walk away

Now head towards the light, the dark has no place here

I don't feel real, and don't feel right
This pain is beating.
You don't feel real, I don't feel real

Well nothing feels real anymore
I'm not taking my time anymore

Now head towards the light, the dark has no place here.

Well nothing feels real anymore
I'm not taking my time anymore
To show you how i feel
To show you who i am
Cause it's locked away

The things we think about at night never lose taste
Take the close to find something greater
This wall has finally reached its end
Its higher ground, lets make a stand
Did you ever think that we would get this high
Pull back the sheets to find an ending that you prayed for.

Now head towards the light the dark has no place here.

Then had another conference call with a couple blokes from London at 1am this morning.  You know when you get so exhausted that you're not even tired anymore? Yep, that was me last night.  I don't feel the Mountain time zone is getting the proper respect it deserves.

I need to hit the Best Buy bargain bin sometime this week to see if I can score some cheap Tyler Perry joints.  I don't want Netflix judging me

Now for a song that is so good that they'd never be able to play it on terrestrial radio, one of my favorite tunes ever

Emarosa - Heads or Tails? Real or Not?

You loved it when my heart dropped, you paused, stopped, and walked away
Full of content that it went your way

These cuts that I've caused are never too deep to heal
Peel back the bandage, see a scar from countless careless things

And feel yourself drifting, pulled away

Well nothing feels real anymore
I'm not taking my time anymore
To show you how i feel
To show you who i am
Cause it's locked away

We all need to find our way
Cut the loss, just walk away

Now head towards the light, the dark has no place here

I don't feel real, and don't feel right
This pain is beating.
You don't feel real, I don't feel real

Well nothing feels real anymore
I'm not taking my time anymore

Now head towards the light, the dark has no place here.

Well nothing feels real anymore
I'm not taking my time anymore
To show you how i feel
To show you who i am
Cause it's locked away

The things we think about at night never lose taste
Take the close to find something greater
This wall has finally reached its end
Its higher ground, lets make a stand
Did you ever think that we would get this high
Pull back the sheets to find an ending that you prayed for.

Now head towards the light the dark has no place here.
You probably can get a boxset (yeah, I made it one word) of all 28 plays and box office smashes, outside of a laudromat for $18.95.

It was 187 degrees last week and I got soup because it's fantastic. I didn't eat it outside and I have air conditioning. I hear the chicken chili is good too, but that's a bit adventurous and I'm quite vanilla about my food minus certain southern things.

I've decide to start scoring my Newsroom-Hate-Watch boxing style with a 10 point must. It's perfect since these series usually have 10 or 12 episodes per season. Boom! Just like rounds with a final score, etc. Hell 3 of us should do it for a better decision. (J-Bot gimme a show to do in the fall and I'll have a running column, it's so fun to watch a show with a pad and takes notes, lol I'm a hateful geek, I know, I know...)

Newsroom recap episode-rounds that I've already over analysed:
Pilot: 10-9 hate watchers. preachy.
2nd epi-round: 10-8 haters, btw there were 2 knockdowns and I almost stopped the fight/show.
3rd: 10-9 haters (fax machines!?!?!, almost another 10-8)
4th: 10-9 SORKIN!... Fast, smart, fun, interesting. This is what i'm talking about. I really enjoyed the office romance-roomate-hook-up dynamic. Happens ALL THE TIME. And the cheapshots at sh!tty 'commentary journalism' was on point...but wait. I'm stopping this for the effing moronic Sasquatch subplot. I buy the drunken office party talk about it, but some bottom of the totem poll guy calling the entire staff in on a weekend to give a TV-CIA Powerpoint presentation (looked like CSI info on his monitor, eff off)?!?! GTFOOH!!!!! I'm warning Sorkin's corner and deducting a point. 9-9.

[Larry Merchant voice] After 4 episodes-rounds, I've got it Hate-watchers 39, Newsroom 35. Sorkin really came back and took it to them, but that deduction is going to come back to haunt him if it goes to a decision. He may have to knock out the hate-watchers to win this.

We gave our daughter a cell phone when she was 10 and in a separate school from her brother and riding the bus to and from school.  He often wasn't on the bus with her, and after the 15 feet of snow we received in a 24 hour period the winter before, we decided it was a necessary item.  She had a plain jane one for years, but now at almost 14 has demonstrated responsibility with it.  She has a smart phone with internet, but is most months well below her plan limit (by half) and uses it mostly for texting her friends and me.  It's handy when we are out and get separated, but I do get a sense of false security sometimes.

I think it all depends on the child.  We were much the same as Jess is when my daughter was 10 - as I said, a necessary evil.

As part of my Birthday celebration, I treated myself to some new nailpolish and a pedi.  So here's a new question.  Ladies, do you go bare toes or polished if you are wearing open toed shoes? Men, which do you prefer?

The reason I ask is because my boss and I are almost fanatical about having out pedis done, and at least clean feet, but around the golf course, the number of women who have bare toenails, and even unclipped or uneven toenails astounds me!!! I hadn't really noticed it until the boss and I were talking yesterday and I was showing her my purchases, but she said she has noticed it, so I looked and WOW!

I have my own preference, but I understand the bare toenails thing, too.  I just don't understand the unclipped or uneven toenails.  Opinions??

BTW, sometimes gay men can be soooooooooo dramatic!!! A (former?) friend of mine got all bent out of shape last night because my son and I went golfing and when he wasn't at his trailer, we didn't bother to text him - he was 50 miles away we found out later, but he was still pissed at us for not inviting us.  I think he may have unfriended me on facebook.  Oh dear, my world is tilted!!! devil

Good Afternoon, Everybodee!

Not much going on today.   Enjoying the antics of our school board with our mountain of (toxic?) dirt on our HS field.  The district started trucking the dirt away after news reports came out saying the dirt had increased levels of lead, pesticides, and fuel hydrocarbons shtuff.      The dirt had been 'donated' last year for use to resurface our football field.  But it allegedly carried more than rocks, which had made it unusable.    Now the district is saying that recent tests show it is not toxic, so they don't have to haul it to a site that handles hazardous materials.    So much fun, it's like watching the Stooges, or Keystone Cops.

Regarding the phone for 10year old, I agree on the safety issue, but it really depends on what activities they are involved with.  Definitely in favor when going to sport events or theme parks and the like, in case you get separated.  We didn't get my daughter her phone until she was involved with band at the high school level, while she was attending the middle school.  With all the back & forth she was going from school to school, along with other band activities, the phone helped keep tabs on her whereabouts.  Although, with how involved I am with the band, that need was reduced some, but I'm not always there.   (Although it seems like it.)

Afternoon Q'ers!  It's the 4th heat wave of the summer at the jersey Shore and even the blow-hard cast of "Jersey Shore" can't cool things off....I must admit, though, they've been relatively quiet this summer-I think only two arrests so far this summer.

Seeing eye puppy is cute as anything, but is kinda dumb-can't get the concept that he should pee OUTSIDE and not in the house!  At least he hasn't pooped in the house since day 3 that we had him.  I feel like I have a baby again, what with getting up at 3 am to let him outside to "park" as the Seeing Eye calls it.

Not too much more.....just today's thought:  "A China doll was marked in tiny letters..."Maid in USA"

I wrote a ranking of the Olympic sports and posted it just now. Please go read it.

Personally, nothing going out, and no comment on today's debates.

Wizards amnesty Andray Blatche. Almost all of the funny athletes have left town now.

So, I saw a summary of the NHL's new contract proposal to the NHLPA, and holy crap, is it insulting. Obviously no way the players can accept such a deal. That was probably the league's plan though, since owners win the public relations battle in sports labor dispute pretty much every time. I'll be interested to see if that happens here, since if it doesn't, I suspect why.

Even though I killed the thread again, I must come back to post the link to the Olympics polls, since I forgot the first time. I'm hoping you're all just waiting until the final week (when I'm off on vacation) to take them.

Also, my answer to Debi's question for me is no polish. I think 90% of nail polish looks tacky.

I'd take the under on Dez.  Since he was drafted by the cowboys he has been banned from a mall for a period of time because he violated the dress code there ( no sagging pants),plus he refused to move his car parked in a fire lane. He has been sued by a jeweler for $800,000, been sued for not paying back a $50,000 loan, there was something in Miami that had to do with Lil Wayne and from the sound of the 911 tape this is not the first time he has gone after his mom.

Apparently Dez doesn't know the expression, 'makes you wanna slap your momma', is just that, an expressison. What a f**king POS. The stupid is strong in this boy. At least he is continuing the tradition that is,  number 88, jerry better do something before they find Dez in a hotel room with a table full of coke and white women.

When my son was about 12, he downloaded the "Guitar Hero"  Ap trial game from his phone and it wound up being a 5-hour trial worth all these bytes!!!   That's when I had to block all games and picture messaging on both  of our phones.  We had unlimited texting but now that he has his IPOD, he just does all his Facebook stuff on that and I'm down to 300 minutes each.
Yep! stuff like that has happened too but I make him pay me 50.00 a month for the phone now plus any additional fees like premium apps. I have blocked all pics and texting from his phone. He can make calls and go on the web via wifi for his facebook but I follow him on facebook too as well as Twitter... He's not pulling no more fast ones on me...lol
