Welcome back. This is the part of the locker room where you can sit and chat and chill for a while without offending or being shushed. Maybe you wanna watch a dvd or listen to your mp3. Yes, I rhymed. Something on your mind, post it! Random question, ask it? Hijacking is allowed and encouraged. Join the party, troll around, have a beer. It's cool. All are welcome, but please leave all BS in the hall.

Do over because I suck.

Kumbaya. I'm mad tired...stupid migraine. I need a little help from my friiinds.

I had to re-cert for cpr/aed today. Same info that will never be used. I'll only ever be the person who goes for help. Eww strangers.

What does "Chasing Joe D" mean?

ONE of the first......I think!

NBC! I curse you for feeding my Olympics need till midnight. Jerks!

Samuel L. Jackson is the best Olympics tweeter. I am ashamed I didn't follow him sooner.

Jerkcoaster tweeters are starting to get on my nerves.......bragging about their early "delayed" coverage. I curse you!

Last day of summer school. I'm thinking about bringing in donuts for the kiddos.

Enjoy your day. Have something icy....because I will. And the below kind of wedding pic needs to happen for all! Enjoy!

"Chasing Joe D" refers to Joe DiMaggio, who has the record for most consecutive games with getting at least one hit, at 56.

Holy Olympic overload Batman! I'm currently watching archery on TV and trap shooting on the computer. Basically just trying to avoid live dressage on MSNBC.

A few notes from my trip before I summarize the food.
  • There's a lot of nothing most places than corn, and unfortunately most of it was dead or close to dead. This drought is really causing some problems.
  • That said, Iowa sucked to drive through. My friend Dave also went nuts dealing with all the corn. Plus then we got into Illinois and then came the toll roads. That was not a good day.
  • Did pretty well with working out in the first half of the trip. The second half was a bit of a problem after a bad night in Omaha and some long drives towards the end. I did remember how enjoyable (and hard) swimming can be.
  • Dave loves Jim Steinman music, so we heard a lot of that during the trip. Gotta love Steinman: the master of the 7 minute pop song (think any Meat Loaf hit and Total Eclipse of the Heart).

Been too busy to check in from work the last few days, and my daughter has her first AP class, so my computer at home has been reserved as well.

Hi Friends,

Ya boy scored 36 points last night in leading our team to a 91-66 whippin' in our first summer session II game.  It was the same team that beat us twice last year.  1-0  :feelsgoodman:

Hot Doug's (which is MUCH better than The Varsity) for el luncho today.  I'll post pics later.  I'm going to try some new concoctions.  Can't wait.

Went to a rooftop birthday party last night and had a few drinkskys.  Anyways, we were playing Catchphrase when it occurred to me that I know every answer on the game.  Do they have a new version?  Bueller?  Bueller?

We were discussing the 30 for 30s the other day.  Well I have news.  They are all on NEtflix.  Boom, bitches.

I'm currently listening to my favorite American band of all-time, The Rolling Stones (wherever he laid his hat was his home).  The Captain gave me the idea.  Thanks, C Food!

Have a great day and remember, football is less than a month away.  Rookie of the YEAR right here, folks.

Our tape delay > Your tape delay #JerkLife, plus NBCFail is editing events to create drama. Facepalm. I'm watching archery live, it doesn't need editing or a recut to make it more compelling. Idiots!
My Alma Mater is ranked 629 out of 650 (Forbes) My friends that I play in a keeper FFL all went to pretty much top 20 schools. They are making jokes about giving me an extra draft pick as compensation. And how well I've adjusted to society, etc. Hardy har har. Pamona College (???) > MIT #HAt!
Anthems as an Olympic event, of course Canada doesn't medal. Some of them are pretty good tho.

We just won gold in judo. Don't ask me how, because I have no understanding of what just went on. I will say the announcers are proving my theory that the lower profile the sport is, the more homeriffic the announcers are. I expect the modern pentathlon announcers to be practically singing the Star Spangled Banner during lulls.

I watched the bronze medal woman's match yesterday (weight class?) and wasn't sure it was over and who won, until it was over and they announced who won. It looked like the American girl fell over her opponent and helped her back up politely. Then her arm was raised in the air triumphantly. USA! USA! USA!

VACATION WEEK..................  it has been a celebration of relaxation and laziness.  i was getting quite good at it.  and then... (of course you knew this was coming and i should have foreseen this)  my wife throws a huge t*rd in my celebratory  punchbowl by taking thurs and fri off without prior warning.   when she asked what i was going to do the rest of the week and my response was "not a damn thing"  her retort of  "that's what you think mister" didn't register. i never questioned the slight sense of foreboding i felt last night.   it registered this morning when she didn't leave at 7:15.   and thank you in advance to my Q buddies for your sympathy and well wishes because you know that the 3 little words i put in question format would have ill effects on my health and well being.  i got confused in my old age and  the sentence:  "gee honey what a surprise, it's so nice that you'll be here for a few days. i love you" came out as  "YOU'RE STILL HERE?"      i am afraid to leave the room i've barricaded myself into.

At least you get to watch the games. All of them. I'm embedded down here in some kinda tape delayed, jingoistic purgatory. If there's an afterlife, NBC's coverage should be fed right into Bin Laden's crappy studio apartment in the "bad part" of hell. And I'm having "Silver Light" issues on my netbook. C'mon CTV, Silver Light Player/Plugin? Seriously? Comcast probably has the feed blocked anyway.

P.S. Alphas is really good. I like it. I cried a little watching one episode last night. See... there is this autistic kid (on the show, I don't think he really is) and I love him like I love vodka, and blah blah blah, at one point I cried, and there was no real reason. It's like that when I watch that Lifetime movie with Weeds mom and young Zac Efron. I cry every single time. I don't think I could parent one (bless you Jen) because I would cry so much. And not because I was sad or anything but for every reason... every success, every failure, rough day, milestone, reminiscing over their life, anything... I think I would just live in a constant state of emotional mess.

Today is..."I Feel Like Dropping Some Funnies On Y'all" Day...so here I go:

Old aunts used to come up to me at weddings, poke me in the ribs and cackle, telling me, "You're next."
They stopped after I started doing the same thing to them at funerals.

People have the right to be stupid. Some people abuse that privilege.

I can only please one person per day. Today isn't your day...and tomorrow don't look good either.

The important thing is not winning, it's making everyone else lose.

And one for the ages:

A woman once remarked to Winston Churchill that he was drunk. His response? "And you, ma'am, are ugly, but I will be sober in the morning."
I see dead people...

A young man was showing off his new sports car to his girlfriend. She was thrilled at the speed.

"If I do 200mph, will you take off your clothes?" he asked.

"Yes!" said his adventurous girlfriend.

And as he gets up to 200, she peeled off all her clothes.

Unable to keep his eyes on the road, the car skidded onto some gravel and flipped over. The naked girl was thrown clear, but he was jammed beneath the steering wheel.

"Go and get help!" he cried.

"But I can't. I'm naked and my clothes are gone!"

"Take my shoe", he said, "and cover yourself."

Holding the shoe over her pubes, the girl ran down the road and found a service station. Still holding the shoe between her legs, she pleaded to the service station proprietor, "Please help me! My boyfriend's stuck!"

The proprietor looked at the shoe and said, "There's nothing I can do...he's in too far."

Heineken's are like the beers you forgot in your trunk during a week in Daytona for spring break and ended up drinking that skunky mess cuz, well, it's Daytona and you're 19. It's like Heineken is tapping into the 'last day on spring break' skunk beer cuz we ran out of money' college crowd.

Well, out of the whole variety pack, I only liked the summer wheat or something. I don't like any dark beer i've ever had, not even Guiness. Shiner bock or amber bock, whichever was gross. And I can't remember the Jason choices I was forced to try, but I could've punched him in the face for letting me put that in my mouth. I don't see the appeal, but I want to try Guiness again. It's been about 5 years. How do you feel about Leninkegel?

All this beer talk makes me feel like i need to have a little Pony Keg party. Do they still sell those? 3-4 couples, qtr. keg of Keystone (lol). It's what passed as a dinner party in college. "Oh Tanya, you brought Doritos and UNO cards? You and Carlos are the best. Grab a cup" I wished we all lived closer so we could just fire one up every two three months.

Alright, so here's the summary of the food during the trip. The ratings are in comparison to that specific food.

Schmidt's Columbus, OH Rating: 10

Great start to the trip with the best sausage either of us have ever eaten.

Fogo de Chao Indianapolis Rating: 9

Those that have been know how awesome it is. My companion Dave had never been, so I knew he had to experience it. Point taken off for the expense though.

Pappy's Smokehouse St. Louis Rating: 9

I've had it before, and they were the best ribs I've ever had. At that time, they remained so.

Iron Barley St. Louis Rating: 7

Good food, better beer list. I should've sacked up and ordered their signature Monte Cristo dog.

Sweetie Pie's St. Louis Rating: 10

Now this was some soul food. I had their special that day, duck , and it was incredibly tender and perfectly done. Dave had the fried chicken and inhaled it like it was his last meal.

Jack Stack Kansas City Rating: 9

Our first KC BBQ stop was a sit down version instead of what you think of when you think BBQ joint. That said, the meat was excellent and the sauce has a nice sweetness to it. It's a bit expensive though due to the sit down aspect.

Oklahoma Joe's Kansas City Rating: 10

Everything you've heard about this place is true. They now have the best ribs I've ever eaten.

Arthur Bryant's Kansas City Rating: 8

Tactical mistake by us, going here too soon after OK Joe's, which might hurt my rating as my stomach couldn't take anymore. Dave, though, said it was his favorite of the barbecue places.

Grinder's Kansas City Rating: 9

We intended to do this for a dinner, but inadvertently got there during some sort of concert and it was packed. Thus, we did for lunch on our way out. Weird decor, good looking beer list (which we couldn't partake that day). I had a pizza, which was among the best I've ever had. Dave had a cheesesteak and loved it.

Brewburger's Omaha Rating: 2

Ugh. Bad all around. It smelled like vomit, they didn't have their signature brisket sandwich available, and the burgers were mediocre at best. A good beer list keeps this from a 1. Avoid.

Amato's Omaha Rating: 7

I was hoping to try their Italian sausage and pepper sandwich, but alas, we were there on a Saturday, when they only serve breakfast. I don't each breakfast much, so I'm a poor judge, but it was competent. Dave's a bigger breakfast connoisseur than me and liked it a lot. We also seeing the owner, who is as round as he is tall.

Hickory Park Ames, IA Rating: N/A

This was a last minute ad. It's definitely full of Midwestern corniness (says the East Coast elite). I wimped out and with healthy with a veggie sandwich, so I won't rate. Dave liked his Italian sausage sandwich though.

Black Market Pizza Ames, IA Rating: 6

Meh.

Hot Doug's Chicago Rating: 10

Jswol is right. This place is awesome. My only regret was I didn't have room for another dog.

White Palace Grill Chicago Rating: 7

Dave likes diners and liked this place a lot. I thought it was competent diner food.

Al's Beef Chicago Rating: 10

A fantastic end to the trip. Plenty of beef in the sandwich, and a good amount of spice, but not enough to overpower the meat.

I just think it would be a good choice for a novice beer drinker.  While it has a pretty good hop profile, it's really balanced out with a nice sweetness to it.

That's the stadium with the giant horse statue right? Or is this a new one? One of my cuz's got married (somewhere outside Denver on a frickin mountain!!) and we went by one day. We also went to a great club that used to be a church and some spot that served  bull testicles. I was not drunk enough to try 'em. Next time tho...
They have the statue at the top of the South stands (just like the old stadium) and a bunch of horse statues running up to the stadium

That club is actually called The Church.  You probably got the bulls balls at the Buckhorn Exchange.  And you really should, they taste like Chicken

1. a disco pandora channel is a fun cure for the common cold blues
2. it is time for me to marry for money. i really love not working.

p.s. do the hustle!!

Yes! Her cousins and groom's cousins (us) would go out every night leading up to Sat wedding. those were the big things I remember. (apparently drinking at altitude has it's side effects as well. BOOOOOOYA!) Also the airport is this architectural destination of sorts. Like a tourist attraction. Good times, good times. Next up on Nyce Across America, Birmingham, Alabama! My friend's family is from there and I've never been. So, wtf?

1.  Did you hear about the kid who got arrested outside a cellphone store for trying to steal a cellphone?

The store name said 'BOOST MOBILE" and he took it as a challenge.

LOL

2.  What is the difference between a black hole in space and my ex-wife's thighs?

The black hole, eventually, will close. LMAO

I don't like thin crust as much, nor do I care for grease...I've never had actual NY pizza, but I've had NY style and it's not my fave. I was told once by somebody that good NY pizza, you can fold the piece in half and the grease runs down your arm. That just makes me want to vomit.

Gas prices shot up 50 cents here today.  Pipeline problems.  My ass.

And I'll be going to take my cold shower now.

Oh. I should have. I probably shouldn't have told my gay friend today that of all the causes this is one i just can't get behind. Told him that if someone chooses to pull their money from something they dont support, I'm okay with that. I support his decision to never spend money there again. I mean, i don't eat at Denny's. He seemed to understand but was disappointed that we wouldn't go top the "kiss in". I guess i just don't care enough. Plus, if my wife isnt there, ill be left out.

Here's a recap of today's Olympic action. I'm hoping to do one every day the rest of the Games.

Tori Amos--Flying Dutchman

Hey kid, I've got a ride for you.
They say, your brain is a comic book tatoo
And you'll never be anything.
What will you do with your life, oh,
That's all you hear from noon till night.

Take a trip on a rocket ship, baby, where the sea is the sky.
I know the guy who runs the place and he's out of sight.
Flying Dutchman are you out there?
Flying Dutchman are you out there, Flying Dutchman?

Straight suits, they don't understand.
She tried that one with the alligator boots but the other side drew her in.
Heart falling fast when she left, even the Milky Way was dressed in black.

Take a trip on a rocket ship, baby, where the sea is the sky.
I know the guy who runs the place and he's out of sight.
Flying Dutchman are you out there?
Flying Dutchman are you out there, Flying Dutchman?

'Cause they can't see what you're born to be.
They can see me.
They can't be
What they can't believe.
They can see what you see.

They keep the boys spinning in their own little world.
Tie him up so he won't say a word.
They keep the boys spinning in their own little world.
So afraid he'll be what they never were.
