SURPRISE

Central Division

We all knew Detroit would be this good, they would be unreal if they could only beat Chicago...

Bu NOBODY expected St Louis, Chicago, and Columbus to have 20+ points by now and all ahead of Nashville...If the playoffs started now, Detroit would be #1, St Louis #4, Chicago #6, and Columbus #7...That is surprising

I like what Gerber is doing in Ottawa.  A little shocked the Rangers aren't playing better.  I'll think of more after my much needed beauty sleep, but I wanted to get this started.

ATLANTIC

  • surprised by lack of rangers offense with all of their talent, yet they continue to win, thanks to king henrik and some very solid defense from a bunch of young blueliners-the pair of tyutin and girardi has been spectacular and completely shutdown, plus staal is making an impact. their defense is also contributing offensively...in fact, rozival is leading the team in goals right now (7). the return of avery has sparked the rangers and they have been playing well since. they will need to find the right line combonations though, because right now they have the worst offense stat-wise in the league despite having the best defense, and they will not win a cup without consistent offense that can support great defense.
  • pittsburgh has been disapointing so far, i thought they would be challenging for the head of the division with talents like crosby and malkin, but poor inconsistent goaltending has cost them
  • islanders has been surprisingly good, i thought GM garth snow's method of signing a bunch of free agents and putting them together would fail, but the players have meshed quite well
  • same with the flyers, didn't think the players would mesh, and did not expect solid goaltending from biron
  • the devils are miserable right now, and have clearly not shown any advantage while playing in their new home stadium- "the rock"...it seems more like "the tombstone" right now

NORTHEAST

  • senators are no surprise, my pick to win the president's trophy...only surprise is the good goaltending from gerber
  • buffalo has been disapointing, i thought their young talent, including miller, would still be a threat without drury and briere, but nobody has stepped it up to fill their spots
  • toronto has played alright, no better or worse than i thought..goaltending is their problem right now
  • montreal has surprised me, i thought they had a poor offseason, and the loss of souray would drastically hurt their PP, but it is still one of the best. they should, however, be doing better at home, with the great crowd that they have
  • boston doing better than i thought, they seemed weak going into the season because they did not make many changes from the previous year which was poor

SOUTHEAST

  • the canes are doing well, ecspecially offensively
  • tampa has done well, and will always be a threat with their big three-lecavier, st. loius, richards. paul ranger has also been strong on defense. however, those three/four will not be enough when they are challenged by a strong defensive team that can shutdown that line
  • the caps had a good start, and i thought they might do well with talent like ovechkin, nylander, semin, and the always stellar goaltending of ollie the goalie, but have done awful since the first few games of the season
  • atlanta has clearly improved the most, after losing six straight to start the season, they have become a .500 team
  • can't expect much from florida, captain jokinen can't do it all himself...voukun is an improvement from last year, but he is not enough to save their season

...sorry, i don't follow the west well, so i cant really do an accurate breakdown

If the wings could just beat Chicago this year I'd be a happy girl!
