Morning.

The ignorant and hateful tweets directed at the POTUS last night because he had the nerve to speak at a time when it cut into Sunday night football make me sick.

I've listened to some people talk about how brave the teachers at that school were..........."taking care of their kids" "using their bodies as shields"--------------------that's what us teachers do. Once your child comes into our class, they are ours. We love them. It's just the way it is.

Good morning everybody.  Had to spend the week out at my mom's house helping her with a rescue dog she got. He has mange so he can't be in her house with her cats for two more weeks. He's a really cool dog and I'm glad he finally has a good home. Had the Blackbird Christmas party yesterday then went to the mall to shop.   Way cooler after 4 glasses of wine.  smiley

So, the shopping is done, I'm ready for it to all be done. frown

Hey Q-TOWN!

I'm still in awe over the Newtown, CT crap that went down on Friday!  smh

I thought the ceremony that they had last night was yes.

Lots of controversay over revamping the Gun Control laws. My main question is, what in the hell was Nancy Lanza doing with an automatic assault rifle in her home?!?!  no  Even though I lean more to the Liberal side, I don't agree that banning all guns is the answer and I do not like guns, myself....never have, never will......but, we definitely need to reform that law and make it much harder to obtain HAND GUNS  (which should be the only gun one should be able to acquire) and/or bullets.

It is very depressing being a Chicago Sports fan...that's all I have to say on that!

Did all of you hear about the f**king racist North Alabama football player and his tweets last night?  WTF?!?!  So, NBC broke away from the SF-NE game to show the NEWTON,CT ceremony and one of the U of N. ALABAMA football players tweeted, “Take that n****r off the tv, we wanna watch football.”angry no

Um....I guess racism is still very much alive in the south?! (edited - as with everywhere else, for those who didn't understand my point with the location of where the story came from)  What an a-hole!  So, a bunch of people reported it to the University and he was kicked off the team (GOOD!)...

This is an ODD idea!  indecision   First of all, who in the f**k would want their crap to come out gold glitter and secondly, who would pay $425 for it?!?!?

What's up boners
Stoney's MMQB is here for you to ignore
In my head week 15 of the NFL is over.  Frankly, because nobody cares about tonight's game.
A couple things.
*New England - San Francisco was a blast to watch last night.  Especially since the Pats lost
*What a mess the Ravens are.  And if you watched the game, Dan Dierdorf made sure everyone knew that had excuses for getting trounced at home.  The Broncos weren't even trying to push the ball the entire 4th quarter.
*Bengals are making the playoffs
*Adrian Peterson might be the real Superman. He has more rushing yards than Ponder has passing yards in 5 of the last 8 weeks.
*Why Jacksonville just didn't take Tim Tebow in the draft 3 years ago I will never know
*I'm not sold on Green Bay.. At All
*The Redskins will win the NFC East
*Indy is a great story, but I can't see them winning a playoff game this year
*Drew Brees showed up this week
*Norv Turner is heading out the door in style
*Take a deep breath Seattle fans, it was Arizona and Buffalo.  We'll revisit this next Monday
*Celebrate now Dallas fans
*Sebastian Janikowski has been the Raiders best player for a decade

Here are my projected Playoff Seedings
AFC
1. Houston (13-3)
2. Denver (13-3)
3. New England (12-4)
4. Baltimore (10-6)
5. Indianapolis (11-5)
6. Cincinnati (10-6)
*Houston wins tie break over Denver with head to head win
*Baltimore winning the tie break over Cincy because of divisional record

NFC
1. Atlanta (14-2)
2. San Francisco (12-3-1)
3. Green Bay (12-4)
4. Washington (10-6)
5. Seattle (10-6)
6. Chicago (10-6)
*Seattle with tie break over Chicago with head to head win

Q'rs

I'm gloating! (uh huh, big ol cheesy grin) Some great football yesterday! I want to thank the Atlanta Falcons for the spanking they gave that other team! I also broke my phone, apparently, it is not use to the volume of TM and/or being thrown like a football. I have stuff to do.
Smile and the whole world smiles with you (shakes head)

10th!

Morning Q'ers!  Had a pretty good weekend.  Parens came in from Arizona.  They are staying with my sister in Boston, but came down and stayed with us Saturday.  It was good to see them.  They got some "real" Chinese food Saturday night and wetook them out to our favorite breakfast spot yesterday morning. While going nto the restaurat, Mom tripped going up the step...she was ok, no injuries, and she got a free pork roll egg and cheese sandwich ut of the deal....nex Sunday, I thikn I'm going to trip going in to the restaurnt....seriously, though, it was good.

Rams blew it yesterday.  They seem to have one bad quarter every game, ad AP took the wind right out of their sails in the 2nd quarter.  They tried to make a game out of it, but too late.  My fantasy football team (number 1 seed at 12-2 going into yesterday's game) went up against Adrian Peterson AND Blair Walsh (Vikings Kicker) AND Vikings D.....those 3 combined for 66.2 points...I had lost even before Brady put up over 26 poins....yep....my oponent's QB...I lost 134-100.  Oh well....

Here's a cute cartoon for today...

Have a GREAT MONDAY!

I didn't realize racism was limited to the south.  I thought a-holes with preconceived judgments towards others because of the color of their skin, or maybe even because of where they live, were (unfortunately) everywhere, Nick.

It's not.........I was merely stating the south, due to where this story came from.  It was an analogy based on the location of the story.

I am very much aware that it exists everywhere and with all types of people!

I keep forgetting that some people take, what people say, literally. frown

A man and a woman are sitting beside each other in the first class section of the plane. The woman sneezes, takes a tissue, gently wipes her nose, and shudders quite violently in her seat. The man isn't sure why she is shuddering and goes back to reading. A few minutes pass. The woman sneezes again. She takes a tissue, gently wipes her nose and shudders quite violently in her seat. The man is becoming more and more curious about the shuddering. A few more minutes pass. The woman sneezes yet again. She takes a tissue, gently wipes her nose and shudders violently again. The man has finally had all he can handle. He turns to the woman and says, "Three times you've sneezed and three times you've taken a tissue and wiped your nose then shuddered violently! Are you sending me signals, or are you going crazy?" The woman replies, "I'm sorry if I disturbed you. I have a rare condition and when I sneeze, I have an orgasm." The man, now feeling a little embarrassed but even more curious says, "I've never heard of that before. What are you taking for it?" The woman looks at him and says, "Pepper."

Don't want to discuss gun control or mental health or anything I have no personal control over.  Opinions are like *ssholes.

Another friend of Robs showed up last night.  After he finally told us why he was here in town. I asked if I was being punked.
Married, sucessful business owner, trolling the internet dating services, new baby, mid life crisis POS.   I told him we are not running a home for wayward men.   This guy needs to GTFO by tomorrow.   Now, his wife is texting me.   I just can't.

I have not bought one thing for Christmas.  Everyone gets money and after Christmas sales free for all begins for them.   The end.

Got this message from my sister this a.m. Seven years ago, her 12 year old son was killed by someone texting while driving.   (She calls me Godlet because she tells me all her problems and feelings and I rarely answer or give responses) she says  Just like God.  (Not in a bad way).  I just don't know what to say back.  indecision
..............................................................................................................................................
Okay, Godlet, you know what is killing me now? I have been grieving for so long I can't understand why I am still alive, how can anyone survive this? Every day I am surprised I actually wake up. Yet, I got to hold my son in my arms, see his last dying breaths even though he was not aware of that; I was privileged enough to sing to him and tell him how much I adored him and loved him, and these other parents didn't even get that. They eventually collected their bullet ridden babies, never got that last I LOVE YOU. But I did get that. So I am thankful for that. Life is so messed up. I can't stand it. Nobody really understands how confusing it is to me that I am alive. Why? This makes no sense. I try to be good. I try to be a good wife and I try to figure out why I am here and I try to LIVE. It's just so exhausting. Okay, going to bed now. I'm sure I'll wake up tomorrow and still have no clue.

My birthday drinking begins now.   Can't wait for holidays to be over.

You've gotta cut us some slack - we realize it was just Arizona and Buffalo, but there was a time not so long ago (even as recent as this season) that we couldn't beat bad teams, especially on the road. It's exciting regardless of who the opponent is that our team didn't just shoot themselves in the foot. I wasn't kidding last night when the score was 47-17 late in the game and I said I could finally begin to relax. Seattle fans understand how easily and quickly they can screw it up...again, even with bad teams. And for once in a very very very very long time (forever actually), we actually see hope for a bright future regardless of what happens this year. We're kinda sold on RW. cheeky

Ed Werder is also reporting that the beans league match up between WhoDats, Sid & Nyce, is the fantasy equivalent of the middle finger to Goodell.

I feel ya...I've always felt the same way about the Broncos. Not only with the division foe thing but I always despised John Elway, and I hated that everyone who lived where I grew up who wasn't a Seahawks fan were Broncos fans. Even though they're not in the same division anymore, it pains me to have to root for their success now that they have Manning (I heart him so).

Looking forward to more quality NFL football this coming weekend, once tonight's boring game is out of the way.  I have come to the realization that for the 1st time in 10 years I actually could care less about who won the Steelers/Cowboys game since neither team, (my opinion) will make any kind of difference even if they do make it into the playoffs.  Was glad I couldn't sleep, so I decided to turn the Sunday night game back on when it was 31-10 and actually had the sound turned back on when it got to 31-24.

On the subject of Adrian Peterson (don't get me wrong, I'm riding him too) the NFL is going through it's own silly/head in the sand 'live ball' era like late 90's MLB. 10 years from now we're all going to realize HGH is playing a HUGE part in all of this. The NFL & PA can't agree on testing, players are coming back from horrific injuries better than ever and having horrrifically weird injuries happen regularly. (Really having GIANT muscles like biceps tear or rip off the bone is an injury now?!?!?!) Plus the clear as day mass + velocity = momentum concussion implications. (You wrap up to make tackles, you blow up to make plays.)

And of course the league is overly concerned about Aderall and Sudafed  (or ephedrine). The whole thing is ridiculous.

The whole Sudafed thing is ridiculous.  In order to buy Claritin D (with ephedrine in it), one has to show a driver's license.  My wife and daughter BOTH take it.  In order for my daughter, who works as an assistant manager at Walgreen's, to buy it, she has to show HER license.  Since they're BOTH taking it, I have to go buy it because my daughter already bought her monthly limit....WTF is that?

Breaking Bad is what that is, lol. Over the counter crank ingredient. Having worked for a pharmaceutical/nutrition company I'm all in favor of making any derivative of ephedrine (pseudo or not) a prescription drug. DIN the whole 9 yards. Mu huang is basically the equivalent of Poppies imo. I would strongly advise peeps to avoid any 'weight loss' supplents, teas or whatever with Mu Huang, ephedra, etc. especially if you consume other stimulants like caffeine or energy drinks.

We tried to buy Musinex at CVS.   Had to take a card off the shelf and wait in line to hand it to a pharmacist.  After 10 minutes of waiting, Rob threw the card down and we went to Publix where we were able to grab it off the shelf in the HBA aisle.  I don't understand how the policies/regulations can vary store to store in the same state.   Also, they put the card you bring them in a stack and then at the end of shift, the employee puts them back on the shelf.  Eww, Robs nasty cold germs were all over that card.

Tough weekend. Lots of alternating between anger and depression. If I comment again on guns and the like, it'll be in the politics thread, since it will just be silently (or not so silently) judged. Someday I'll learn to just keep my mouth shut, but in this case, the conversation needs to happen, if not here, than somewhere, and it needs to happen *now.*

So to keep from thinking about that, I wrote a lot about the Baseball Hall of Fame to post here. No I don't know what drives me to do such things. Here's Part One, which just gets the steroid thing out of the way.

Packers win the NFC North, but I'd be lying if I said I was that confident they can actually make a playoff run. I'm sure that sentiment surprises no one.

No matter my attempts at being less negative (which derailed this weekend, but I think I was making progress), there's something about the grocery store that turns me into a complete jerk*. I really need to do something about that.

* If you're response to that is "Eric, you're always a jerk," then all I can say is Touche.

Nick...

You know, I was gonna respond to the Tweet thing, but I realize that for a country like ours to have pockets of folks that, for whatever the reasons are, still promote racism, prejudice, and hate at such an aggravated level, really need for the rest of us to rhetorically shove them aside - even over a cliff - to make better what is the USA.  And its sadder that idiots in that manner are HIGHLIGHTED to show their ignorance.  I bet he was doing it to make friends laugh...so sad that is not funny and in some form and way the mentality that drove that boy to do what he did to those kids in Newton.

I think we all lost something Friday.frown

I thought it was rather neat to show him speaking to the people in Newton, Conn.  Big freakin' deal it interrupted the game!

I hate racism and hate being labeled a racist simply because I live in the South. I have friends of color whom I adore and am proud to call them my friends. I'm sorry for those who can't see past skin color...they are the losers!

My understanding on Mrs Lanza is she was a gun collector.  I think a thorough mental evaluation should be a requirement to purchase a handgun and don't see the general population being able to own an automatic assault weapon period.  Those should be reserved for the military and police and police required to undergo mental evaluations on a regular basis.  Just a single shot gun is all the people who want guns for protection or hunting, should be allowed. I was not upset at the scheduled shows being interrupted for the Memorial.  Not at all.  However, I was upset that President Obama's comments were not directed to the children and the teacher heroes who lost their lives.  Instead, he used the opportunity to speak for a political agenda - to discuss gun control.  It was a memorial, not a political situation.  I'm Canadian. I should have no opinion on this, I'm sure, but if that speech were presented at a memorial for my child I would be upset.  He only spent the last 30 seconds reading their names. IMO that was not a speech that should have been given at the memorial for the victims.

We lost a very close friend on Saturday night.  She was the mother of one of my closest friends and she had taken ill about 11 months ago.  My friend, Richard, had given her an orchid when she first went into the hospital back then because she loves plants and he wanted her to have something close to her.  She asked him to make sure he gave it to me when she passed, as she knew I would take care of it (she loved my "Goliath" a split leaf philodendron that I got 20 years ago from an ex boss - she had it 20 years before she gave it to me).  The orchid is blooming like crazy.  She requested no funeral, so tomorrow she will be cremated and, at her request, in the spring we will go for a quad ride and spread her ashes over the banks of the Kiskatinaw River.  She and her husband own 600 acres, 10 acres of which are on the river.  I'm so honored.  She was a wonderful woman and a proud Duck Unlimited member.  Birds were her passion.

Picked up a new Panasonic 55" TV tonight.  Tomorrow I'll mount it on the wall.  Can't wait to watch football and NASCAR!!!

I've never had much trouble with reading comprehension, but if I misunderstood or misinterpreted your point, then I sincerely apologize.  Seeing as you mentioned twice that the offending tweeter was a University of North Alabama football player, I'll admit I have a hard time seeing the need to tack in the south to the end of your statement about racism still being very much alive.  Did it really matter where he was from?  Would it have been less offensive if he was from elsewhere?  An article I read last night linked to not only the tweet you mentioned, but also to quite a few others that were very similar.  Based on the Twitter profiles, many of the tweets were from fans of the Patriots.  I'll assume you didn't read that same article, but if you had read it, can you honestly say you would have posted that racism is still very much alive in the south and New England?

Last night I read a ton of posts in various places about the fact that it was us "Canadians" who were so p***ed about the fact that Survivor had been temporarily pre-empted by the President's speech.  I saw ONE comment in a FB thread about Survivor that was disrespectful and from a Canadian.  However, that ONE comment resulted in many, many more calling "us" inconsiderate and uncaring idiots.  Unfortunately, that is the way things are often misconstrued.  I honestly don't think any disrespect was meant, any more than I believe those people who posted last night truly believe all Canadians are inconsiderate, uncaring and disrespectful.  It is an emotional time and emotions can change people's perceptions of others.  I know how I feel about the events of the past few days, how I feel about what I have seen, and how I perceive others so I refuse to be ignited by hatred or prejudice.

I'm a daily Filter Error "lurker", but I very rarely post here.  I wasn't trying to create an issue with you, and I certainly wasn't trying to garner respect.  I enjoy reading everyone's daily musings, including yours.  Today, I simply wanted to point out that I felt like you implicitly painted the south with the broad brush of racism because of one flaming idiot, when I knew that morons throughout the country had committed the same vile act that he did.
I wish you wouldn't just lurk, I miss your posts.  frown

I don't think Nick was trying to hurt any ones feelings.  Is racism alive and well in the South? Yes.

Is racism alive and well in the North? Yes.

Is it more prevalent in the South than the North? I don't know.  All I do know is that after living in both places is that it still exists.

And I also know that people in the South that are not racist, try very hard to overcome a stereotype that people in the North do not seem to have to do.  I am surrounded by racism where I live, but, just in the 15 years I have been back here, it has changed and evolved. smiley  And it has done so because of people like you, and Christie, and yes, even me. A loud mouthed Chicago democrat who every time hears the n word come out of someones mouth down here feels the need to call them a moron.  And also because we have taught our children and grandchildren to judge by action not skin color.  So, every generation here in the South is making it a better place. smiley

Which is why I respected it. It's completely irrelevant that you may have misunderstood him, your point was still valid. You make a good point, you get respect for it. Sh** happens.

on another note: I don't know why anyone would be upset the game was interrupted. They announced that it would be and gave 2 other channels to turn to if you wanted to keep watching...which I did because (1) I can't handle it and (2) I knew there was absolutely nothing the President could say. There are no words. I think part of the problem since Friday is that people keep trying to find some.

As long as the subject is running,

Those pages on Facebook that urge to sign in support of the families are mostly bogus.   Trolls start them and get paid for how many likes and traffic they generate on their pages.  One is actually a rapper who started his page in August, deleted all his music posts and put up pictures of the victims.  His traffic count quadrupled in less than 8 hours.   Profit over tragedy sickens me.   I realize most people are feeling helpless and want to do something positive.   This ain't it.

So, if you're forwarding me things to sign and get 10 more people to sign and share, I am deleting them.

I think she knows he wasn't trying to hurt anyone's feelings. And, I doubt he hurt anyone's feelings. She was just pointing out what he said. I read it just like she did, but it's not like I think Nick is racist or doesn't know that racism exists in other places. He's not blind. I don't think* she does either which is why she pointed it out, more than likely. Wording is important in a place where typing is our only form of communication.

Oh! I live in the South, I get called racist a lot... I may be, though.  love you all....ish.

also, do you live in the south? :/

Ok, I love her no ish, I didn't want her feelings hurt.

And it's the beginning of the south.  The people here call themselves southerners and very southern traditions. And yes, I do love it here. I miss the North very much, and would probably move back if I could. But, I have learned so much down here that I wouldn't trade for anything.

Because people are ignorant pure and simple.  Instead of doing like you said changing the channel that takes all of 2 seconds, they choose to take minutes and post ignorant bulls**t.  Instead of listening to the words of our President to a national tragedy, they chose to spew hate.

Get the patch.

Oh, and look up @concernedmom420 on Twitter.
I've only tried the patch once and it sorta/kinda ended up like that episode of News Radio** where Phil Hartman keeps getting rushed to the hospital, lol.

**Stoney we also need way more News Radio references in here.
