Does getting drunk count as a tradition?
Cause I do it every year, haven't missed one in like 30(mumble mumble) years

If not working, I usually go to the library beforehand and get an entire season of one of my favorite shows and watch as much as I can, while ordering a pizza and taking a break at some point to watch them drop the ball in New York.  I then go out at 12:15 and light one firework in rememberance of any family/friends that have passed away since last New Year's Eve.  This year I will be thinking of the victoms in Conneticut and the breakup of my relationship which was on again/off again for nearly 13 years.

The past few years, I've spent it with my daughter watching movies and then the ball drop on TV. I drink a glass (bottle) of champagne, she drinks a glass (bottle) of sparkling cider, and all is merry. My husband has had to work over NYE and New Years consecutively for a few years. This year he's home though...we'll probably do the same thing.

Either have all of wife's family here (where I drink mass quantities) or we go to m sister in law's house half a mile away (still can drink mass quantities...but I can walk home or have someone drive).  Play cards, used to watch America's Favorite Vegetable Dick Clark (sorry....I gave the guy credit for trying, but he was about 3-4 seconds behind the countdown).  Prior to his stroke, I would always watch him...it was too painful after that to watch.  I liked last year when they went back to all the previous "New Year's Rockin Eve" clips...

We usually celebrate with friends...either at their house right down the road or have a designated driver and go to my Uncles bar.  Since I don't drink anymore (unless the urge hits) I prefer we "ring it in" at the friends. There's not much fun dealing with a bunch of obnoxious drunks (at bar) when you're stone cold sober. :/

Then we go to mother in laws NYD and have the traditional blackeyed peas w/hamhock (for luck so they say, lol), potatoes, fried pork and whatever other 20 dishes/deserts she fixes. wink

Amateur night!

I usually head over my friends house......she has been throwing NYE parties for the past 7 years or so and it's walking distance (somewhat) to where I live or I crash at their place.

Otherwise, I am home, staying away from the massive bar crowds, amateur drunks, professional drunks and traffic.

I fly up to Akron to hang with a friend of mine, since it's infinitely cheaper to drink there than in DC anytime, but especially on NYE (around here most places charge covers up to $75). We have a quieter spot where we go that specific night.

Nah...you don't....look at all those people...everyone you see has been there 12 hours or more, drinking "warming fluids" and.....no porta potties visible!  Either they're like that astronaut who drove from Houston to Florida with an adult diaper, or....it smells pretty bad there.  Guys, with their "external" plumbing...ok....but the ladies?  hmmmmm....

I  usually  spend  most  of  the  day  with  family.   Later  on  as  I'm  watching TV,  I  doze  off  then  wake  up  just  in  time  as  they're  counting  down  to  the  ball  drop  in  Times  Square.   Amazingly,  I  haven't  missed  one  stroke  of  midnight  yet!  My  telephone  or  my  neighbor's   M80's  would  startle  me  awake,  otherwise.

Too  many  subway  pushings  going  on  right  now.  If  you  have  to  take  the  train,  you  don't  want  to  be  anywhere  near  NYsad
Times  Square  is  no  place  to  be  @  New  Years.  It's  like  10  times  or  more  magnified  craziness,  and,  like  Kurt  said.  'nowhere  to  go'.   Other  times  of  the  year  the  city  is  OK.  Just  always  be  aware  of  surroundings  on  the  trains  and  never  stand  on  the  edge  of  platform.
