Winter is officially here in the Midwest! no

Looking at a possible 2-4 inches of snow later today with 40 mph winds and a high temp tomorrow of 28!  UGH!   I can't wait for my son to finish HS so that I can get the hell out of here and head to warmer climates!

Today is our first and second grade Christmas program. It's at 11 and Santa is making a visit in my classroom at 10:40. Recess is at 10:45. Santa better use to of his magic and be done in 5 minutes or my bladder may burst (it's on a school schedule----Must hold because of recess duty Monday and Tuesday, and is freed W-F.....it doesn't do well with interruptions) I'm hoping most of my parents will take their kiddos home right after. yes

Yesterday my kids wrote how they would make the Grinch grin. These three made me snort.

In my journey to seek out stuff I may have missed over the years, I happened to watch the movie Wristcutters: A Love Story last night.  I recommend it, and I've always had a thing for Shannyn Sossamon since A Knight's Tale

People still watch Miss Universe/Miss America/Victorias Secret Fashion show/etc on TV? Don't they know internet porn is so readily accessible?

It was the Rockies turn to make a big splash in the free agent market yesterday by re-signing pitcher Jeff Francis.. sigh

So, it turns out that the Eagle snatching the kid video was a hoax!  It was an animated project that was put together by some college kids!

The Chicago Curses (Cubs) are to announce the signing of P Edwin Jackson to a 4 yr - $52 million dollar deal.....this, just after signing some stiff by the name of Carlos Villanueva (P)..........   Stoney, I will sigh with ya, brotha!

PS - Deputy Commissioner Daley of the NHL made a bold statement, yesterday, stating that there will be a Hockey Season, but, not before they mention that more games will be cancelled.  Yeah, I will believe that when I see it.........and at this point, who gives a Rat's Ass?!?!?  Who wants to watch a 40 game (or less) season ?!?!?  The Stanley Cup won't mean jack at that point!  Double sigh!

I actually kind of like the Cubs moves so far this offseason. I think they are def moving in a better direction now then anytime i can remember at least in past several years.  They have made some interesting signings and some guys for a decent price with some upside.

Scott Baker they got for a very affordable 1 year deal and even though he has been hurt a bit he has good stuff and has shown signs of being very good if he is healthy.

Fujikawa from all reports has good stuff too and should make that bullpen a lot stronger and for a fair price as far as relievers go these days.

Feldman and Villanueva are not studs but they could be solid back end of the rotation and depths guys and which if your going to win esp later in season def gonna need some SPing depth.  Plus i would rather one of these guys over Travis Wood i think.

Navarro could turn out to be a solid signing too he showed some flashes of being good with the bat last year playing for reds.

Jackson for 52M doesn't seem like that big a leap and not too bad a signing. He can be an inning eater and he may not be an ace but  compared to A. Sanchez who they also liked ya could very well get some similar numbers and at a cheaper price.

Maybe they can now flip Marmol for a close to the majors prospect and fill another gap with a cheaper long term option somewhere in the lineup. Plus they are limiting the years for these kind of signings and not putting themselves back into a Soriano contract situation again indecision

The queen of England was visiting one of America's top hospitals, and during her tour of the floors she passed a room where a male patient was masturbating.

"Oh my god!", said the Queen, "That's disgraceful, what is the meaning of this???"

The doctor leading the tour explains, "I'm sorry your ladyship, this man has a very serious condition where the testicles rapidly fill with semen. If he doesn't do that five times a day, they would explode and he would most likely die instantly."

"Oh, I am sorry" said the Queen.

On the next floor they passed a room where a young nurse was giving a patient a b*** j**.

"Oh my God", said the Queen, "What's happening in there?"

The Doctor replied, "Same problem, better health plan."

We need some offense and a better bullpen!  Our starting pitching wasn't too bad last year.....I agree with your assessments and I know it will take time for Theo and Jed to get the right talent in here, but, f**k a duck, it's been 104 yrs.....how much longer can we wait?!?!  hahahaha!

1. Got my christmas package from my folks, homemade pumpkin cake, salami and chex party mix.

2 Decided on my next tattoo, now just to work out the logistics. Who is gonna do it, where am I going to place it, will it be one tattoo or need to be split, can it be done in one sitting, where I am going to get the money? The minor details!

3. Christmas sucks and I can't wait till this crap is over with!

I agree with Wristcutters (shout out to Netflix!) I think I watched it around Xmas last year? This year I'm going to fire thru some eps/seasons of shows to catch up, since I'm not going back home. Holiday traveling is the worst. It looks even more horrific for the couples flying with toddlers or babies or some combo of each. Geezus, gramma and grampa, do us all the favor and FLY OUT TO THEM FFS! We should be able to shame grandparents (or families) for that kinda BS, kinda like they publish mug shots of drunk drivers.

Several different vendors I speak with have had the whole conversations on planning out end-of-the-world to-do lists.   One talked about making sure the company van had fuel, as gas stations weren't going to be operating (due to no electricity working at all) while others said if it was the end of the world, then  why waste your money on gas.   I brought up the fact that if there was no electricity, then the van's electrical system wouldn't work either.

I figure the Mayan calender is a 400 year cycle, and this is supposedly end of the 13th cycle so far.   If that's the case, then 400 years ago the world didn't end, so it shouldn't end this time either.   If nothing else, that would make this the Mayan New Year's.

So, Happy New Year's Everbodee!

big storm has CRAPPED OUT in the milwaukee area. too warm,  been a monsoon all day. s'posed to get a bit of heavy wet snow tonight. high winds and cold but so far ZERO snow.  the local news stations still have a couple douchebags standing in the street reporting that there is nothing to report about.   F'n MORONS.   some areas just west and north got a A**full of snow. good place for it.  that is all.  over and out.

That's all until I've had some drinks at my work-sponsored Christmas party tonight.  Let's all hope I come home lit up like the Griswold's house.  Typo Christi needs to have some fun.

I can't wait until I don't have to hear about this stupid Mayan thing anymore. So *bleeping* stupid.

Stoney and Nick: Both of your teams are terrible and aren't in any position to compete, so I wouldn't worry about free agency at this point, particularly you Stoney. The Cubs will buy because they have the cash and (in theory) impatient fans. Hell, Jackson at 4 years/$52 million isn't even that bad of an overpay.

My Orioles haven't done squat, which is kind of a problem when you were a .500 team in actuality that got historically lucky and have almost no chance of repeating that success without upgrading the rosters, while at the same time every team in your division has done *something.*

Speaking of baseball, my Hall of Fame posts came out to almost 6000 words. I should be mocked and judged for that, but before you do, at least read them.

Laurel: America has slowly become a police state for decades now. This is just the next step.

Jack came home and told me they had a "lock down" drill. They led him into a girls bathroom with no windows and only one exit. I told Jack if he heard the tornado sirens then follow the drill, but if he heard screaming and popping sounds, he was to hightail it out of the school and up the street to the fire station. It sits right at the end of their playing field. It was/is indeed a scary day.

There's nothing left in the pitching market, and the ones that have some potential aren't coming to Colorado unless they really like the schools. The only options would be to take some risk on the old guys on cheap deals (which actually might not be a bad idea). Also, why did they dump Alex White on the Astros that quickly?

As for the offense, looking at the personnel, is it really the top 5 offense, or does the ballpark just make it look like it is?

Three FEET of snow.  -29C this morning when I headed in to work.  The pavement on the roads has been covered with ice for at least three weeks now and we won't see the black of the pavement for about another three months, if we are lucky, more like four months if things go well.

Winds have been blowing at 50Kms (about 30 MPH) since October  - if they mellow out to 20mph we think we are in heaven.  Our wind chill has been -40 (Celcius and Farenheit are equal at those temps)

For the record, in case you haven't figured it out by now, I f**king hate this cold weather. I am definitely a hot weather lover. I would love nothing more than to move to a hot climate, and had seriously considered doing exactly that a few years ago, before our economy went in the toilet. Up here, business is....well not booming, but definitely busier than in a lot of other places. So, I have a job and that's what I need most. I'll have to put up with the weather for a while longer, so go ahead and bitch. I'll just join you all. Merry Christmas!!!

Alex White is a glorified BP pitcher
stats at the end of the year are stats regardless of semantics

So, park effects don't matter? That's a new one.

Fine, will it make you happy if at the end of the year, say the Rockies score 750 runs we apply a mathematical formula that hypothesizes what would have happened in an alternate reality where they didn't play at Coors Field and were, let's say the Auburn Alligators.  That way we could say the Colorado Rockies scored 750 runs, but if they were the Auburn Alligators they would have scored maybe 718.  But then again, we would have to speculate whether that outburst that Auburn had on July 22nd when it was exceptional warm and the wind was blowing out and they managed 21 runs, partly due to 4 Carlos Gonzalez home runs.  If they would have averaged their normal output at Bo Jackson stadium, they would have scored 6 runs that day.  Because of that, we would have to asterisk the asterisk to let people know that park effects on fictional July 22nd allowed for 15 more runs than SHOULD have been scored, so the new weighted run count would be changed to 713.

I've had a sh*tty day at work today, can you tell?

I give your rant 6. You forgot to tell me "get my head out of a spreadsheet and go watch a game" and you didn't say I lived in my mother's basement. Those are two critical elements to any anti-stat geek rant.

From everything I heard this year, Coors went back to being what it was pre-humidor for whatever reason. Could be a one year blip, but it happened. As a team, the Rockies hit .306/.367/.500 at home. On the road they hit .241/.291/.371. Pitching was similar, only it wasn't very good on the road either (4.41 ERA on the road, 5.97 at home). The park masks the flaws in the offense, and make the pitching seem even worse than it is. The stats don't mean anything without context, and that is the context of Coors Field.

Edit: Sorry, this post originally put the team's OPS in the slot where the team's slugging should've been. My bad.

We need some offense and a better bullpen!  Our starting pitching wasn't too bad last year.....I agree with your assessments and I know it will take time for Theo and Jed to get the right talent in here, but, f**k a duck, it's been 104 yrs.....how much longer can we wait?!?!  hahahaha!

Love the positive vibe though!  Glenda is going to fall in love with you over this!  yes
and then there is Sandy Alderson tearing up my Mets, who put up a great first half before their lack of talent outside of Davis, Wright, Dickey, Tejada showed itself all year. Trade the reigning CY YOUNG WInner for a catcher that hit less than your starting catcher, who you included in the trade, makes no freaking sense whatsoever. Should have used Dickey to get a righthanded power bat for the OF, but no one comes back to Queens fitting that description. Never tendered an offer to Cody Ross, who dominates LHP and plays a very good defensive OF at all 3 spots to put behind Davis and Wright. What a freaking mess!!!!!!!!!!! And what about pitching now that Pelfrey and Dickey are gone, and Mets are looking to trade Niese (Why give up a 25 year old LHP who has been getting better each year, I don't understand and I don't think Alderson does either). And let's not forget the disaster area that was the bullpen. Francisco has surgery on his elbow this winter, Nice.
