Happy TWENTY THIRTEEN!!   (For all the dorks who insist on saying Two Thousand and...)  ugh.

Intentionally skipped the NYE party I always go to.  Good thing, heard it involved, cops, ambulances etc.
First time not hungover on Jan 01 in about 30 years.

Going to make some jumbo crap dip and enjoy the day with my son.
Rob is going out to spear fish.   The wind is blowing from the southeast
which makes the weed line pile up and brings in dolphin (mahi not Flipper).

Later, a overdue birthday lunch with my friiends.   Not counting on fish.

If I have to watch a college game, what is the ONE game to not miss?

Happy New Year, y'all!   I stayed home last night and watched the tube.  I hope you all had a great or nice NYE.

I will be posting a new Music poll in 2013, to go along with my other one that I have been doing.  This idea came to me thanks to MARCUS NYCE! yes

So, on MON-WED-FRI, you will still see the Music Storytellers poll and now, on TUES & THURS, there will be a One Hit Wonder's poll. Although, somehow, a duplicate one came up today and the initial one was supposed to post at 10am EST this morning, ended up coming up last night  -  HEY JESS!  What's going on with the Q?  It's taking 15-20 minutes for the site to refresh....I mean, it's been that way for a few weeks now, but, I figured it was time to ask. laugh

Random Thoughts...

1.  Im glad the f**king holidays are over.

2.  Go play Farcry 3.  Played for about 2 hours last night and...
Got attacked by a group komodo dragons while skulking about a shack...ran into the outhouse to escape...commotion attracted some thugs...threw a rock near the bushes with komodo dragons...thugs investigated noise...thugs killed by komodo dragons...took a picture with my camera.

3.  Going to have to put a new heating unit in my house.  Anyone know anything about that sh**?  My main priority is quiet.

4.  Watch Beasts of the Southern Wild.  Go.  Now.

I just had to replace my AC and Heating Unit this past July.

I had a Lennox heat pump, this time I went with a Carrier.

Added new insulation, didn't have to do anything with the duct work...

Electric bill was  $ 420 - 450 a month  ...now it's  $ 230 - 260  a month

No, I didn't insulate the walls.  My Lennox was a pain in the fact that it was expensive to upkeep, but it did last a long time, and the new one is so quiet, I don't notice it is on.  I do not hear it go on and off while I am watching TV or sleeping, so nope, I don't notice it....it is quiet like a baby whisper.
I hadn't thought about insulating walls, wish I had insulated outside walls more...if that's even possible.

oh hai
so seeing Django may be put off until this coming weekend as I'm off to the museum instead this afternoon

I don't think the line can be high enough to favor Georgia over Nebraska, FSU over Northern Illinois, or Florida over Louisville, but it will be interesting to see if any of those teams even show up to play.. That's why you shouldn't bet and spend your money on bills

I watched Sleepwalk With Me yesterday and I highly recommend it

I get angry every time I see the commercials for the Marky Mark and Russell Crowe movie

Our house was built in 1928.   No insulation in the outside walls or flooring.  The house sits on a slab with no vapor barrier.
The outside walls are cut with vents to move air through the house.   When it's cold, the heat runs and runs and it never gets above 65.  We can't insulate because it will grow mold in the walls.  Ugh.  That is why we changed out all the windows to double impact
insulated from jalousie windows.  It saves us almost 200$ a month in cooling/heating costs.  All the rebates and tax credits made a 40K job cost around 8K.

http://schema.org/Lyric">and here's your song for the day

Stephen Lynch - Let Me Inside

Will you show me your heart?

Will you open it wide?
Expose the raw nerves
Will you let me inside?

Can you tear down the wall?
For the mortar has dried
Will you show me your heart?
Will you let me inside?

There’s not to infer
And nothing implied
I literally mean
Will you let me inside?
I am at your front door
It’s not open, I tried
It’s cold as balls out here
Let me inside

You know when it’s dark I get terrified
Come on seriously, will you let me inside?
I think I just saw a possum All beaded eyed
Those things f*cking scare me Please let me inside (Let me inside)

Are you angry with me?
Are you preoccupied?
Are you taking a sh*t and can’t let me inside?
I can smell from the kitchen
The food that you fried
I’ve had half of a power bar
Let me inside (Let me inside)

How can this situation be rectified?
Hey, here’s an idea, f*cking let me inside
Tried to climb through your window
But I was too wide
You should get bigger windows
Or let me inside (Let me inside)

Are you with a new guy?
That you’re trying to hide
Girl, I’m down for a threesome
Just let me inside
Ok, that’s the last straw
I’m a man, I’ve got pride
And my toesies are freezing
Please let me inside (Let me inside)

Will you show me your heart?
Will you open it wide?
Expose the raw nerves
Will you let me inside?
Can you tear down the wall?
For the mortar has dried
Till then I’ll be sitting here Waiting out…

Afternoon Q'ers! Hope everyone had a safe and not too drunk NYE.  Spent it at sister in law's home....she was in a bad mood...lost the remote for the TV and blamed hubby for losing it, though SHE put holiday music on TV at 10Am yesterday...nobody else touched remote...so, when it came time to watch Dick Seacrest/Ryan Clark, couldn't figger out how to turn TV to TV.  Sister in law blamed her hubby....well, this morning, guess who "found" remote in the "drawer" by the TV...yep...sister in law.  She won't fess up to losing it, just said "I must have checked that drawer ten times"...yeah...right...I told her ya can't bs a bs'er!

Just sitting around, watching Twilight Zone marathon.  Drank some of this stuff last nite...

and an Iron City Beer and a Molson Golden.  Woke up this morning to get daughter up for work at 7, then fell asleep on couch...just chillin now.

Have a GREAT New Year!

My mother just changed out to a Carrier from a Lennox.  Of all the random things she tells me, she told me that it is so quiet she can't hear it turn on half the time.  It concerns her because she thinks it isn't running, even though she is toasty warm.

The majority of the people I know up here, where we need heat 9-10 months of the year, have Carrier.  They just seem more reliable, and yes, quieter.

The DVR is going down today.  I've knocked out several episodes of The Clone Wars and Touch.  The rest of the day may be gangsta Tuesday...first The Untouchables, then Donnie Brasco.

I only work one day this week...tomorrow.  Then I have to run like hell to get to the U of L basketball game tomorrow night.  Section 102, row f.  The perfect spot to heckle the away team shooting free throws in the first half and to encourage the Cards to make theirs in the 2nd.  I'm taking a girl who is like a little sister to me.  She just turned 21 yesterday.  So, as she says, "We're 'bout to turnnnn it uppppp."

Ok,   Todays outside meal was not the 1.

Two people never got appetizers.  I sent my crab bisque back.  Last time I checked, bisque is not served chunky corn chowder style.

Ordered a Wahoo sandwich.  Catch of the day.  I just ate the fish.    Bloody Mary was the best part.  ALWAYS stick with plan A when it comes to ordering.

Rob sent me a FB message saying he caught a sailfish today off the waverunner.    That my friiiinds... is insane.   Especially all alone with no one to give you medical attention should you get punctured.  angrysad   Literally fighting a fish that can kill you when it jumps while sitting at water level.     Sometimes I wonder about that boy...

I hope he took pictures before he released it.  I'll edit later if he did.

Yes, I'm jealous I wasn't there.

Edited to add,  The waitress that we only saw twice and prefaced taking our order with "How busy she was" disclaimers,  tried to blame the experience on the kitchen.  Mmhmm.   That earned her a 10% tip.   And a $40 paid in full bartab waiting for the kitchen staff at the end of the shift.

Wait. You sent food back because it was bad and only ate part of your sandwich because it, too, was bad? The waitress told you she was busy (which I'm guessing is due in part to the kitchen being crap and people were doing the same as you and sending stuff back and complaining, which would put any waitress behind) and still the kitchen staff....whose stuff you had to send back or didnt eat, got a bar tab? Damn. Maybe I'm missing something but that seems wrong to me.

First off as a server (and a damn good one) shame on her for saying you aren't getting good service because I'm busy. And if all she did was brought the food, took it back and you only seen her twice, means she didn't give you good service. And did not deserve a good tip. 10%  was more than  fair.

But, good God woman, don't pay for bad cooks to have drinks. That's like overtipping a bad server. sad

Although, somehow, a duplicate one came up today and the initial one was supposed to post at 10am EST this morning, ended up coming up last night  -  HEY JESS!  What's going on with the Q?  It's taking 15-20 minutes for the site to refresh....I mean, it's been that way for a few weeks now, but, I figured it was time to ask. laugh

U mean,13,13,13,13,13,13,13,13,13,13,13,13,13,13,13,13,13,13,13,13
now u may count it.

The food wasn't bad.

The bisque (which she read from her chicken scratch notes) didn't even say bisque on the board that we saw at another table.
It said chowder.  Her error.  I switched it for Clam chowder which was amazing.  (with another server).

The sandwich was just massive and I couldn't eat it.  So, just the fish.

Several Bloody Marys were leading my review, so  hope this explains my ramble.

I have to say as a cook, I know that servers blame the kitchen for their short comings. At least once a shift some server will miss ring/forget an order. Then I have to rush out the screwed up/forgotten food. Now I know that server isn't going to go to that table with everyone else's food and look at the lone person without their food and admit she/he screwed up. They know that they can probably kiss the tip goodbye, so they are going to blame the kitchen for the screw up.

So for me as a cook, if I sit down at a table and the server is making excuses for bad service, before I have received bad service. Plus if in the server's excuses they are already blaming the kitchen for it and I haven't received anything from the kitchen. I would have done the same thing you did. That server is probably making numerous mistakes and the kitchen staff is forced to fix the errors, in order to keep the customers happy and even save the server's tip. That server is making the kitchens job harder than it has to be. But no one ever tips the cooks!

Everyone at our table beside my son, is in the business in one form or another.

We talked the whole time about work, not our plan, but because of our experience as it was happening.
Which just makes you notice all the ways you could have done  better.

The food I sent back, PLUS the appetizers we never got, which were probably left dead in the window.
Wasted time and wasted product.

Inexcusable.

That makes the kitchen look like they don't know how to keep food costs down.   Pisses me off.

If you never got the appitizer my bet is she never put the order in for it.   You know the first thing I teach a new server is this, Do not get yourself stuck. If you are to busy and getting behind, don't take more damn tables. Tell the other servers to please take them. You only lose yourself money by getting behind and giving bad service.   And you risk the customers never coming back.
