What would you expect to pay to have someone babysit your infant
My friends in Nebraska somehow lucked into paying $25 dollars a week for a friend to babysit their 9 month old baby,  Having listened to my sister complain about her babysitting costs for 2 boys in Denver, it got me wondering what other areas of the country and abroad costs for this service.

I've never paid anyone to babysit my child. :/ I've never charged anyone to keep theirs. So basically, I have no clue.

I also wouldn't pay a stranger to keep my child. Trust issues.

I usually ask for Elisabeth Shue in return when friends ask me to babysit their children.

It should at least be minimum wage.  I charge $8 for one child (per hour) plus $2/hr for each additional child.

On a scale from 1 to McCarron's girlfriend, how hot is the babysitter?

More than a kid who doesn't crap his pants and can feed himself.

Wow, we looked for someone to sit with our 11yo (when she was 9) in So. Fla. and they charge no less than $14/hour - just one kid. And she's fairly self sufficient.

When my daughter was an infant, I was pretty psychotic about who watched her. We had a lot of volunteers, having lived by family and a lot of life-long friends at that point who thought I would never have a child, so I would probably never have paid someone outside to do it - and nobody who did watch her would take any money.

I'm with Laurel though - they should definitely be paid more than a sitter who doesn't have to do as much.

I only babysit for friends.  I'd charge more for strangers if I were inclined to sit for them.

I don't hire out baby sitters. I have some folks that, when I am at the end of my rope, pulling my hair out, come and take the boys so I can return to my semi normal craziness. I did look it up though and it seems the going rate is $14-$20 bucks an hour depending on kids, age, length of time and "special needs".....I would prolly have to pay the $20 bucks an hour fee....indecision

Yep.  My ex husband worked the midnight shift, he got home, I went to a part time week job. I worked at a restaurant during the day on weekends. We raised our kids, no way was I going to let someone abuse my kids, that was my job. smiley

I get $10/hr to baby-sit my niece, then I delegate that responsibility to someone I hired from Craigslist for around $7 per hour.

I was only kidding about that, my sister isn't stupid enough to ever let me watch her kid.

My kids were rarely babysat, and when they were it was by a neighbor, close friend or relative I trusted.  They both went to the Daycare run by the College, and the caregivers there became lifelong friends.

Both my son and my daughter have babysat for friends' kids and now my daughter babysits for the neighbors across the back alley.  There are two girls, aged 3 and 5 and they pay her $10 an hour for both kids.  If she is only babysitting one child, they pay her $8.  She did babysit for a teacher friend of ours a year ago and she was responsible for picking their daughter up from daycare and taking her home, feeding her and putting her to bed two days a week.  It ended up being about 4 hours and they paid her $30 per day.

I used to get paid $1/hour when I babysat as a teenager....had a girl I took care of all summer whose mother worked the night shift.  I was 14, she was 3 (the kid, not the mother).  I babysat at the apartment a few days a week, as the mother worked nights and was sleeping.  She NEVER, EVER gave a "tip"....I'd make my $8/day....

WIth our kids, we were fortunate enough to have nieces that were teenagers when my kids were little...I think we paid them $20-30 for the night, which was usually a 3 hour night...
