Favorite Teams? (Edited 09/15/14 08:49AM by SusanVette)
I am fairly new to this site. Yet, I've noticed something that is a little (sorry to offend) "juvenile."

A user's profile gives them the opportunity to select their favorite teams. In doing so, they are able to gain further points in rooting for these teams as well as earning a ranking for that team.

As I can see it - there is no limit to how many teams you can favorite. Therefore, it presents itself to me as a loophole to gain a ranking or points at the expense to those who are actual supporters of these teams.

While I don't have the ability to change such things, I am interested to know if I am alone in this thinking. Should there be a limit? Such as one or two per sport?

Initially the limit was 7 teams, but when we launched the Sports Bars "Check In/Cheer" feature we never did close the loophole that allows people to continue to choose favorites as they're checking in once their 7-team limit is hit. It's an oversight that will eventually be addressed with redesign. I agree, it's ridiculous. 7 was never enough for me but I think I would be good with 10 (I need one each for football, hockey, baseball, NCAABB, NCAAF, NCAAH, juniors hockey, MMA, soccer,  etc.)

"7"? I have only had spots for 6. Since I only follow Nascar & Football with any fervor, I am good. I know some folks who use the "extras" for the check in bonus. For some reason having a zillion qbucks makes them happy.

editing: i am too tired for this..I do have 7 spots..thanks to an old Aztec fan.....

I'm ok with a limit.....I just wish there was a MUSIC option to Like!  cool

I have my favorites and I don't need the opportunity to select 80 teams. I have teams I pull for in certain matchups and teams I like to see do well. Still, 8 to 10 selections would be plenty. Anyone who has 50 or 60 team favorites are apparently trying to purchase a Q-yacht.

Yeah, I hate it. And the other thing I wish they would stop is being allowed in a bar a week before the game every day so people can up their respects for their friends. Going into the bar on game day only. Why do you need to talk about the game one week before the game is even played?

I like the bars opened a week before the games...it's fun rootin' for your team and seeing friends comments :)   It's hard to be online game day unless you have a husband/wife/boyfriend/girlfriend that understands, lol  Mine don't and will turn my game to a bloomin' western if I don't sit on the couch and watch angry

well, how would you feel then if you could only get 10 respects from a person no matter how many days ahead you were in the bar? That would work too right?  That way the same people that give 10 respects everyday for saying "go  team"  cant get 100 respects before the day of the actual game.

This is why I usually don't participate in the sports bars. I prefer the game threads

I disagree, If thats the teams next opponent, who cares how long we get to talk about the game.

Not to talk about the game, some people use it to do nothing more than to get respects. I want it changed to you can only give a person 10 respects for a game period, not 10 a day until game day. I have been here awhile, I like the bars I really do. I do not like how they have set it up so you can move up in rank without having to do anything else besides so Go Cubs and get that many respects for it.

And there are many here that do it. And we al know it.

We definitely need to think of a better way for people to earn MVF awards, or move up in rankings. I would like to bring more content into it, or maybe trivia scores for those particular teams in the game period. Something more substantial or where users have to contribute more than "go team!"
#16 | 609 days ago

I know of one guy who at least goes to the trouble to find a few different ways to say "____ win."  And it's all for respects.  At least he gets a little creative about it, though.

Wouldn't it be awesome to have the trivia keep you in the actual sports bar while you play rather than redirecting you to a different page? And only show trivia for the teams in that bar?

Yes! Absolutely love the idea.
It's hitting me though, the actual work behind this awesome idea. Is it tangible? Would it take away the other trivia? Lot's of things to mull over.

Aren't you considerate!? heart
Actually this type of thing is just one of many ideas we've had for improving the sports bars. I'm not sure which will be implemented of course, but it wouldn't take away the stand-alone trivia. That page gets way too much activity; some people come to the site primarily to play trivia, and we don't want to force them to find that in the sports bars. This would just be a sports bar enhancement.

And even that is ok. If someone wants to reward someone for it fine. But, just ly one person can give another person 10 respects be it in one day or 5days when it comes to the same game.

But yeah, rob and I both quit doing trivia questions and quizzes.  It's a lot of work for no reward now.

Creating polls/articles for your teams and if there was some kind of team trivia, that could be another factor?

Maybe, also factor in the over/under and spread for that game?  Some kind of ranking system based on being correct and how close you were to the actual score/spread??
No. Not an issue.

Right?!?!?!  Because we all know that I am the #1 BLACKHAWKS Fan on here but because I don't visit the bar too often, I don't have that status!   cheeky

Anyone who has more than one favorite team in any sport is ridiculous, period.

Sure you can have another team that you don't mind or whatever, or even occasionally root for, but imo a real fan of their team doesnt give much of a rats ass about any other teams.
#26 | 37 days ago

What is juvenile is complaining about such a trivial thing.  What does having a high ranking for a particular team actually do for you?  What else can you do with Q bucks other than use than for betting?  Nobody has the right to tell me who i am suppose to like or how many teams I am allowed to like.  Haters just like to hate.
No. Not an issue.
