Your Filter's Fubar: Here's to the Freakin' Weekend Edition
Late start.  I'm in Nashville.  I'm tipsy and sitting in my hotel room watching Louisville basketball.  I can see the Parthenon out my window and folks are out flying kites today.  The trees here are blooming.  I LOVE the south.  The Vanderbilt football stadium is behind my hotel.  I had lunch with a guy I haven't seen in 10 years or so.  It was like time had not passed.  Hockey tonight.  Who knows what else this weekend will hold besides The Pancake Pantry for breakfast.
I toured Andrew Jackson's home, The Hermitage, earlier.  I did not allow enough time to TRULY enjoy it.  I'll be going back next time I'm here.

Hockey?
Something else?

We're here....

Awwww dammit.  Lost in a shootout.  Ryan Suter almost didn't survive his return to Bridgestone.  I think he avoided the box a time or two with some visiting refs in the kitchen.

I'm sure they played as well as they could.  I'm actually watching the Flames play the Kings, while I get pleasantly pi$$ed.  The Kings are winning.

Story about the hockey game last night.  I sat next to a guy who brought his son (about 7 yrs old) to the game says, "They are gonna put some glass there, right?"  I looked at him like indecision and said, "Uh, no."  He started to panic a little bit and was rambling about how his son was going to get clobbered with a puck and and live as a vegetable on life support the rest of his life.  I'm not sure this guy doesn't have a bubble to put his kid in at home.  Chris Mason did do a good job of standing up and throwing up his goalie gloves if he thought a puck was headed that direction.  Dad ducked and covered over his kid every time he even heard someone hit the glass.  I know freak s**t happens sometimes, but it really was a bit much.

If I had some valium, I would've crushed some and put it in his drink.  I wanted to tell him to chill the f**k out, but it was kindof entertaining, in a sad way.  He also covered his kid's eyes every time there was a fight, which was about every time Suter was on the ice (it was his first trip back to Nashville after leaving for the Wild).

I had breakfast at a place called The Pancake Pantry, which was phenomenal.  I had the Caribbean pancakes...coconut, bananas, pecans.  The place always has a line, but they have a quick turnover, so it didn't take too long to get seated.  I took a book to read while I was in line.  They had a band playing out front for a while, too, which kept everybody somewhat entertained.

I almost cried as I left Nashville this morning.  I always have a great time when I'm there.  I did not allow enough time to explore The Hermitage (Andrew Jackson's home) while I was there, so that's an attraction that I will revisit next time I'm there.  I thought 90 minutes would do it, but being the history buff I am, I really wanted to slow it down and savor every moment I was there.  It would take about 3-3 1/2 hours to do it the way I'd want to.

I got to fist-bump most of the team as they came off the ice after pre-game warm-ups.  I about peed my pants when Shea Weber came through.  I was two rows behind the bench.  I've decided that I'll be sitting close to the bench for most games unless my tax return gets so small that I REALLY have to tighten it up to go.

At least you can rest assured that Mr. Worrypants shouldn't be sitting close to you again.  No doubt he will be either in an end zone or up in the nosebleed section where the puck is really unlikely to be hit.

Nashville is on the list of US cities I would love to visit.  One of these days I'll get to visit them all :)

Nashville is fun.  There is a lot to do.  And even though there are a lot of transplants, the people all seem to still have the charm and friendliness that southerners are known for.

My dad visited Nashville before I was born, along with other cities, but Nashville stole his heart - he loved country music - and always wanted to go back.  I'm sure many of the places he visited are either gone or changed a lot, but still....
