#38 - lyrical highlight:
New Kids on the Block had a brand new hit / Chinese food makes me sick

I really should just turn this post into a 6,500 word essay on that video, but I'll digress. It's probably for the better.

Also big ups for the crapterpiece "I want it that way" still holds up comically today.

This list is basically the 27 Yankees of unintentionally hilarious boy bands. I may print it out and put it on my fridge.

GODSMACK - Whatever
LIT - My Own Worst Enemy
EVERLAST - What it's like
FAT BOY SLIM - Praise You

Top 5 Billboard 100...but you have "other"s.... then it's not top Billboard anymore, right?

Anyway.. I was graduating high school and/or starting college. I know most of these songs...and I'm putting JT Money #1 for no other reason than he's an option. And Juvenile at #2. :shakeit:

Looking at the list again, I actually like most of these songs. And Believe is one of my faves to get stuck in people's heads.

Oh em gee this was a great year. not just for music (I like pretty much everything up here) but for me in general. A lot of milestones, breaking free, and the music is the soundtrack.

LFO was great - they were a boy band making fun of themselves/other boy bands. You watch your mouth.

Madam, I am a charter member (and president!) of the LFO Fan Club & GeoCities fan pages ring. I am also a noted 90's boy band historian for Her Majesty's Royal Collection which is currently on loan* to a sub basement at the Smithstonian.

NOW GOOD DAY TO YOU!

This is why I haven't listened to any top 40 radio in 20 years.

I was a freshman in high school, which is probably why I look back at most of these songs fondly. Hell, that's probably why I remember most of these. The 1978 list I didn't know most of them. That and the older people complaining about this list shows the generational gap, and why I say music is the Second Front of the Generational Wars. I don't care what anyone says, Brandy and Monica kick ass, and in Summer Girls, we have one of the most hilariously terrible songs ever. This year also has a good bit of my teen angst songs in it.

Atrios had an excellent post yesterday on the generational gap. Stuff popular, say, 25 years after you were in high school is going to be considered old. It does make the generations after you suck. It doesn't mean they have no respect for their elders. It just is, and what it is inevitable.

NOW GOOD DAY TO YOU!
Don't think my sisters and I didn't break out in a boy band snippet sing-a-long recently beginning with I want it that way...but we couldn't remember a 98 Degrees "hit" to save our lives. Poor 98 Degrees. I actually have yet to remember it....

This was the worst year ever for music. I was a senior in high school and I hated it even then.
Even the songs I picked, I'll change the radio station when they're on.

We need to start a publication called "Sh!tty Aficionado." I'd like to do an oral history of Zubaz pants at some point in my life.

I feel we would need to pry Rembert Browne from Grantland to do that.
