Welcome back. This is the part of the locker room where you can sit and chat and chill for a while without offending or being shushed. Maybe you wanna watch a dvd or listen to your mp3. Yes, I rhymed. Something on your mind, post it! Random question, ask it? Hijacking is allowed and encouraged. Join the party, troll around, have a beer. It's cool. All are welcome, but please leave all BS in the hall.

Did I win?

Oh, sorry wrong poll.   Happy Friday everyone. smiley

We are closing the restaurant tomorrow for my mom's surprise 70th birthday party.  Which I think will be worse than working. sad

My sister has planned this whole thing, and trust me party planning is NOT what's she's good at. But, I will go and play pin the tail on the old people and name the flavor of pepto bismol if I have to.  I'd rather stay home enjoy a whole weekend of no work and watch baseball though.

You guys have a great weekend.

Yankees actually had a lead...and WON!  Now, if they can win tonight, and the Rangers sweep the home-and-home with the Penguins.....

Here's today's pic...

Have a GREAT weekend!

It's snowing here.  Yes, I realize that isn't something to be surprised about, but it also came with cold.  It is currently -14C which translates to f***ing cold for April.  And the snow isn't supposed to let up until Monday.  Good news?  I feel better, and I don't plan to move until tonight when the daughter works.
Here's my puppy, just over three months old.  He doesn't like the snow either.

Yay for Friday!

What's everyone doing this weekend  Anything?

I'm heading out for some Deep Dish Chicago Pizza (duh) and either bowling or billiards....or both with an old friend that I haven't seen in over 20 yrs.

Taxes tomorrow

Helping my dad with a Fashion Show that our Cousin is doing. Our cousin makes Dresses for Proms and Weddings and she is doing a show for Teen Prom Dresses.

I saw this and wanted to share it!  It has a lot of truth to it, SO READ IT, DAMN IT!

(An interpretation of his Keynote speech at SXSW last week in Austin,TX)

1. No one is you and that is your biggest power.

“It’s YOUR VOICE. Cherish it. Respect it. Nurture it. Challenge it. Stretch it and scream until it’s f**king gone because everyone is blessed with at least that, and who knows how long it will last . . .”
“Who’s to say what’s a good voice, and what’s not a good voice? The Voice? Imagine Bob Dylan sitting there singing ‘Blowin’ in the Wind’ in front of Christina Aguilera.”

2. Don’t be afraid of not fitting in.

“I can truly say out loud that ‘Gangnam Style’ is one of my favorite f**king songs of the past decade. Is it any better or worse than the latest Atoms for Peace album? Hmmm… paging Pitchfork! Come in, come in, Pitchfork! We need you to help us determine the value of a song! Who f**king cares.” Don't be someone who designs their lives to impress others.

3. Give a damn about yourself.

It’s about taking care of yourself so you can be a better human being. A 2.0 version of you is way more equipped to help others in need. Take up yoga if you’re stressed. Ask for a big raise. Walk away from a relationship that is abusive or draining. Or just take a nap, for Christ’s sake.

4. Be humble.

No one wants to go to lunch with a supermodel who says things like, “My cheekbones, if you’ve noticed, have a similar incline to an escalator.” One thing I’ve noticed is that if you are good at something, people will acknowledge it. Appreciate the hell out of those people. Should you be blessed enough to have the fortitude to work so hard at something that people celebrate you, your first reaction should be gratitude. And know that there’s a ton of people out there from all races and socioeconomic backgrounds who can still teach you something. I don’t care if you’re Bill Clinton or Jay-Z – always be learning; always be improving.

5. Spark a revolution.

Always have the highest bar for yourself. Wake up everyday and no matter how crappy you feel, want to change something for the better. Do something that makes someone happy. Create something that inspires someone. Be someone’s light when they are hopeless.

I can't stop listening to Macklemore right now.

My knee feels so much better today (thankfully...I hate icing nonsense). Back to being brutalized.

I bought the International Delights Cold Stone Creamery Sweet Cream coffee creamer last week and it was gross. I was scared to buy a new flavor but the little rinky dink store here is STILL OUT OF MY CINNABON CREAMER angryangryangryangryangryangryangry! Anyway, so I decided I'd try one more, and bought the Heath bar one. It's so good! I was a little nervous they'd go crazy with the nutty aftertaste like they do with anything that has nuts (heh) or screw up the caramel-y flavor, but they stayed with toffee. I'm happy.

I haven't. A lot of coffees are too strong for my tummy in the morning - I've fallen in love with Starbucks Blonde because it isn't harsh. Sometimes my friend and I get boxes of other stuff though (Keurig cups) and split them so we can try new ones without being stuck with stuff we don't like - I'll put that on the "to try" list.

I love everybody's comments sooooooo much. They're exactly like the Monday after the real tourny selection.

The 1-16 "What? Who? Never heard of them." The 8-9 ones are way too tough, 5-12 & 7-10 upsets brewing, etc... don't think it wasn't all done on purpose. Not to troll per se, but to give it a "Well Crap / Sophie's Choice" decision making process.

Eric is a freaking genius. Guess we all knew that already, but...

This needs to happen at least once a month, with EVERYTHING. Maybe we cut it down to just 16 and run it every 16th of the month and call it "Sweet Sixteenth Bracket" ? Movies, bad sports contracts, etc. best of, worst of... really whatever? I think music is way too hard, but Nick take a crack at it. Stoney, Top 16 Oscar for best pic since 1970? I like the idea of a 4 region pro sports sweet sixteen best nickname bracket, just so we can have Oil Can Boyd back in our lives for a few days.

Adding to the Foo Fighters love today b/c I listened to this on the way home from work today:

Hello, I've waited here for you... Everlong.
Tonight, I throw myself into,
And out of the red, out of her head she sang.

Come down and waste away with me, down with me...
Slow how, you wanted it to be,
I'm over my head, out of her head she sang.

And I wonder when I sing along with you,
If everything could ever feel this real forever.
If anything could ever be this good again,
The only thing I'll ever ask of you.
You gotta promise not to stop when I say when.
She sang:

Breathe out, so I can breathe you in,
Hold you in, and now, I know you've always been there
Out of your head, out of my head I sang.

And I wonder when I sing along with you,
If everything could ever feel this real forever,
If anything could ever be this good again.
The only thing I'll ever ask of you,
You gotta promise not to stop when I say when.
She sang:

And I wonder...
If everything could ever feel this real forever,
If anything could ever be this good again.
The only thing I'll ever ask of you,
You gotta promise not to stop when I say when.

Man good luck with that. Music is probably, almost purely subjective no matter what variables, rules and RPI's you come up with. Wait until you start bouncing it off people and getting 2, 3 or 4 equally valid arguments in every direction. Next thing you know --> You're down the rabbit hole in the archives of RollingStone.com, Esquire or The Hollywood Reporter, etc. reading reviews & features, looking for common denominators and a way back home. (That was my fave part, btw. It's wonderfully frustrating and incredibly interesting.)

I like the idea of a 4 region pro sports sweet sixteen best nickname bracket, just so we can have Oil Can Boyd back in our lives for a few days.
i filled it out! i'll have it on my wall at work. this is pone bracket i feel good about! although i actually had an upset with myself because when you announced it yesterday my brain burped "friends."

Not a "phile" so much as a "Band Dad", but sure, I'll take a look.

Are news stations, 24 sports networks and even web based news outlets so low on newsworthy items now that everyday their has to be a story of an athlete, entertainer, or simply a public figure coming out in public as being gay/lesbian?  I understand wanting the same right as heterosexual couples in terms of marriage, I also understand that a lot of people by making that statement of their sexuality are lifting a heavy burden of their chests and now feel free to live their lives openly.  I guess my question is, once you open up to your family, friends and (in the case of athletes) your teammates, why does the average person need to know?

I feel kind of the same way about this. If people just lived their lives they way they want to live them rather than making a big announcement, I have to wonder if there would be less of a reaction to it in general.

Good Afternoon, Everybodee!

Happy Friday!

Slow day today, meaning I only have 5 million things to do, instead of 7 million.

Although, the Toy Associate in me laughed at this:

Ahhhh, the pros and cons of being a celebrity.

Hopefully, we will come to day in time when sexuality is not "newsworthy"! frown

I agree with you 100%

The way I see it, when a Democratic president is proposing cuts to Social Security and Medicare, while downplaying the threat of climate change at the same time, there is no other way I can feel other than despondent. I'm just not capable of thinking positive for the sake of thinking positive. There must be evidence.

First weekend of the no alcohol policy. I'll go ahead and mention my two cheats though: a glass of wine or two if I eat dinner at my favorite Italian restaurant, and the 3 beers I have left in my fridge that need polished off. The latter will probably be taken care of Sunday during the IndyCar race.

Five days into the season, and I still love love love MLB.tv. I'm like a little kid with a new toy.

Hey, I was in on it and *I* hate the seedings...

Some quick ideas I came up with...

Music: One Hit Wonders
Movies: Best Movie of the Year, where the seedings are solely determined by Box Office rankings. 1-64 (I like 64, what can I say) get in, 65th is out. You can even have an over/under bet on how many top 8 seeded movies I vote for in round one. It could be done every year pre-Oscar season. Hell, we should retroactively do 2012 when the Sitcom tourney is over. Call it the Roger Ebert Memorial Tournament.

TV: Game shows could work for a 16 tourney. Dramas for a bigger one.

I'm just sayin'. I'm old enough to know there are some things I have no control over and have learned to distance myself from those to avoid letting them stress me out. No sense in it. I educate myself where I can, do what I can, control what I can control. The rest of it...well...I don't want anything to do with.

I would counter with that kind of not caring is what they want. Fighting back is the only hope we have or not being completely *bleeped* and even that's a long shot, because the politicians have made it very clear they are bought and paid for by the oligarchs, and thus will do their bidding at all times. We'll just have to agree to disagree (ugh, I hate that phrase), and of course, remember that if you actually met me, you'd hate me in five minutes.

All I'm saying is I care about stuff I can do something about. I didn't say I don't care about anything at all. Anything I can't do anything about (through education and voting), why the heck should I stress about it? I like to feel happy. I like to dance. Life's too short - I like to enjoy it rather than be bogged down with fret. Stress hurts my soul.

Not only that, but between work, child, husband, military life, pets, etc.etc. etc. I have enough stuff in my life that I CAN control to worry about and deal with. I don't have enough time in my day to think about all of that PLUS stuff I can't do anything about.
