Take Me to the Movies
So.  I just signed up for Netflix.  I have a few movies/tv series in my instant queue that I'd like to watch.  However, one of the first gems I watched was Sherlock (BBC), which he was recommended to me by Stoney.  Now, I can't imagine having missed it.  I'd love to broaden my horizons...if you have a movie or tv show you've enjoyed that may not be so mainstream, please shareTake Me to the Movies Photo

Hmm... I don't recommend Doctor Who to anyone, but if you wanna try, The Tenth Doctor is great.

On a more normal note, Stoney has me watching Arrested Development.
I recommend Rescue Me, Alias, Oldboy (if you don't mind subtitles and martial arts), I Saw the Devil (both of these are violent), Adventureland, Shane, Prison Break, and Very Bad Things.

Are you just streaming or do you have dvd plan as well?
I second Arrested Development.
And the Oscar goes to Beans.

I'm just streaming as of now.  I'll probably add the disc option in the near future, though, b/c a couple of titles I REALLY want to watch are only available on disc.

So, when you do, burn through Suits so you can get mad when it takes hiatus, too.

Oh, this is right up my alley.
As far as TV shows go, of course Arrested Development, but I also love a lot of the stuff from BBC that aren't overwhelmingly known about here; Luther, Shameless (British version), Wallander, Doctor Who, Torchwood.
A lot of old stuff like AD that people missed the first time around; Undeclared, Freaks and Geeks
I could probably recommend several hundred movies, but here are some.
Primer
Oslo, August 31st
Oldboy
The Bicycle Thief
Lars and the Real Girl
Kumare
John Dies at the End
Safety not Guaranteed
Jeff Who Lives At Home
Valhalla Rising
Troll Hunter
End Of Watch
Battle Royale
Bellflower
Any Van Damme movie
The Paperboy
Blue VAlentine
Holy Motors
Pi
Compliance
The Devil's Double
A Royal Affair
Enter the Void
Love
Shotgun Stories
Cashback
Dogtooth
King of Devil's Island
Fish Tank
The Red Riding Trilogy
Fallen Angels

That should get you started

I agree with Stoney on all the BBC shows, especially original versions of the ones they made here. i.e. -> Prime Suspect (Helen Mirren, 1991 - 2006) It's great. They really eff'd up the NBC version with Maria Bello. It HAD to be pay cable over here to work.

And, of course, the original UK version of The Office. It's only 2 seasons maybe 13 episodes total? (plus the movie finale which is TOTALLY different than the NBC version, lol!)

I second Dexter, Suits, Rescue Me, and Prison Break. If they still have Dead Like Me, that's kind of a fun quirky dark comedy. And Luther! Friggin Marcus.

Season 3 in September!!!!!!! (check out BBC's Prime Suspect Jess, it's TV-meth)

Here's a great piece on the wonderfully charming serial-killing-guardian-angel (and future Mrs. Nyce) Alice Morgan.

*sigh*

June 30th!!!   8th and final season of Dexter  crying

And, I don't know if you've read anything about this last season, but, if you haven't, I know 1 thing that made me go all

I don't like to read up on any rumors but when I went to the Dexter site to find out when the season was starting there was something there and it doesn't tell you the details, just a little blurb about someone on the show.... If I told you, you would be shocked, excited and intrigued, all rolled into 1 emotion.

That. Was. AWESOME!

And I know Nick! I've got mixed feelings about it. Part of me wants to just DVR the season and watch it when it's over, because of how I am with Dexter...and part of me doesn't want to watch it at all, "so it will never end". Ugh.

I fell off Dexter after season 4? (3 maybe?) the one that kinda slowed down and got to relationship-y and stale. Seasons 1+2 may be the best first two of any series. Just wow. As popular as it is, I think it's still a little underrated if that makes any sense?

Of any series? No. I didn't even enjoy season 1 that much until it was almost over.

Man I used to love the Shield when it was on.  And not those three idiots on WWE either.

I agree with you, Ash - season 1 wasn't my fave (that's why I wanted you to stick through it). Loved season 2, going forward and the rest. I'm so sad this is the last season.

Yeah, it got better. Yesterday, I was watching Supernatural and I called Lucifer, Paul. My brother and sisters all turned and said something to the effect of who the hell is Paul, and I'm all "umm..oh, I got my fandoms mixed up. That's Dexter." lol
