Loving being in the country. Cept for the *#ckin 5:30 a.m. wakeup from the rooster and all the wild birds. It's Robs birthday so we're gonna go to some waterfall and then go looking for recycled barn siding. I could get used to this. A day in the mountains is worth a month in town. Simplify.

THE player my dad talked about non-stop while I was growing up passed away yesterday. Deacon Jones. If you are on twitter, Jay Mohr shared some of his best memories of his friend. As for me, his passing makes me think of my dad. I kind of like picturing them meeting up.

His book Headslap....if you haven't read it, is a must read for any football fan.

i'm done smoking. not "trying to quit" this time. just done with it. and the first 24 hours have been surprisingly easy! i've actually been in a very good mood. i'm going to kill my cravings with kindness. no one says you have to be a cranky a**h*** when you quit. so instead of being afraid that i'll be that for a few days, i'm going to be reeeeeal f**king nice to people so my guts feel good inside. the problem is, i can feel the cravings coming out of my eyeballs so in my head i look like rodney dangerfield and my fingers have felt very long and fidgety like the independence day aliens hands.

best nba post i've seen comes from an old band geek friend of mine from college: "welcome to san antonio, lebron. where we beat the heat every june."

best astors post i've seen comes from the mlb examiner: "The Houston Astros are three outs away.....from sweeping the Angels. In Anaheim. And winning their sixth in a row. WHAT?!?! If you go by payroll alone, there is absolutely no excuse for this."

Morning, Everybodee!

Not much going on today.    Yesterday, a construction crew ruptured a gas line in the south part of our county.  The authorities cleared out an area and closed down the nearby freeway.  About an hour before rush hour was to start.   Within half an hour, traffic was backed up for miles.   A nice surprise present to those who have to travel into the area.   And there was to be a concert down at an ampitheater as well.   I don't go that way, but if you close one freeway around here, all the others are immediately affected.  Took me about an hour to get to the high school, where it usually takes half that.

Here's a little trick to flush out your body of the toxins.

Eat an orange, 3x a day (morning, afternoon and evening) for the next 5 days and drink plenty of water.  It will flush the nicotine out of your system faster but, it will also make you pee a lot.

Good Luck! yes    I've quit smoking, somewhere around 12x over the past 25 yrs.  It's soooo damn difficult (ugh), especially when you get stressed.  Also, try not to drink alcohol for a few weeks, unless your will-power is that of steel!

Happy HAWKS Day, folks….

What a terrible basketball game last night.  It looked like me (Miami) playing Alain (Indiana).   No comp.  Hopefully we have a great hockey game tonight.

I’ve been watching too much Walking Dead.  Last night I dreamt I was on the show and just hanging out in a skyscraper in Atlanta by myself eating Funyons.  Do they make Funyons in Hotlanta?  WTF?  Anyhoo, glad I started watching the show.  It’s must-see-tv.

Speaking of tv, does anyone else watch Parenthood?  Love that show, but we’re almost caught up now.  Any suggestions on a new show to watch on Netflix or Hulu?  We ditched the cable so I don’t think HBO GO is an option anymore.

Nick, I saw some empty Zima bottles at Foster Beach last night.  You know anything about that?

Nope....wasn't anywhere near there but since you were, I think we now know where they may have come from?  wink

Speaking of Hawks Day, I have a double header (softball) tonight. First game is at 7:30 and 2nd is at 8:30.  Which means I won't be home until 10pm.......That will mean I miss the first 2 periods of the game!   Definitely will be setting the DVR tonight!

I don't ever wish for rain outs, but, tonight is one of those nights that I will be hoping for rain!

Dave, Mother Mature must be pissed off at the Great Lakes region because our weather is not June-like at all!  60's and rainy but it looks like, at least Illinois and Wisconsin, will be warming up to the upper 70's and low 80's next week.

Walked into a local sports bar last night, and on the main tv's were NHL,NBA and MLB games.  However on 3 individual tables their tv's were on Star Wars Return of the Jedicrying  Really?  You go to a sports bar and you turn it to Star Wars?  I know Pacers didn't play their best game, nor did Penguins but Star Wars?

Wow totally agree, but I think there is a great idea for a Nerd Bar here. Show Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, Star Trek etc. on the big screens and have the servers / bartenders cosplay all kinds of comic-con stuff? Who doesn't want to get their beer & wings served to them from Slave Leia? This has legs.

And other dude, everyone knew those games were awful, there was no need to even pretend to watch the nba one so any sci-fi show was just as good.

I'm waiting for that here, if you can think of something you want to do at a bar, I can probably find a place to do it. One of my favorite spots here is a place called 1 Up (and due to popular demand the owner opened a place called 2 Up). They are basically "barcades" They have almost 50 vintage arcade games, 15 pinball machines, skeeball, giant jenga, you can buy 40s, cans of Hamm's, Schlitz is on tap, and they also have a bunch of local micros on tap.

Last night's Last Rehearsal was pretty good.   (Not a single instrument was played.)   There were our usual traditions.    The band was taken out to the football field, where the seniors were made to run their Last Lap.   One lap around the track, ending up coming between two lines of the remaining band members, saluting the drum major and joining the awaiting alumni.  (The last lap is the hardest.)

Then back to the band room, where they held their Gemming ceremony.   Telling a story of a journey taken, where items are picked up along the way, turning into gems, the director gives a "gem" (Actually a bead on a safety pin...no gems were harmed during this process) to a student and revealing a memorable moment or attribute about them.  (example, our drum major had a scooter accident early this year, face-planting and damaging her front teeth.  Months of painful work were put in, yet, she persevered through the pain working the band into shape.  Many stories.)  Then each of the students get to Gem another for similar reasons.

And finally, the graduating seniors get put on the spot, having to answer one questions from each remaining grade level Truthfully.   Some of the questions are simple, as in who they would miss the most.  Others were more hard-hitting like what was their darkest secret, or what was the worst thing they did in the band room without telling the teacher.

The seniors each gave parting advice to the younger crowd, signed a "senior" wall.   Other members also got to sign the guard flags.    All in all, a good night.  Very few dry eyes left in the room.

Yeah not to excited about the whole Iowa thing, but I hear that it is lovely there this time of year. I will also only be there for 3 weeks getting my CDL back. I will be driving out of Atlanta for now, and probably moving to California in about a year.

The hours don't bother me, I have no kids or significant other to worry about. Plus 22 years working in the restaurant industry has prepared me to deal with ever kind of idiot possible. Whether I dealt with them some of the as my customer, coworker, or employer, I am used to it by now.

They have a console place like that back home or used to anyway. Everything from Intellivision to the latest ones and you paid played like a pool hall with an cheap hourly rate. Id kill for a bar with old stand up ones. Id spend triple digits on Fater Burner alone. I need to move to Denver... oh wait. Winters. Scratch that.

I would like to think I've made strides with my temper over the year, but Metro delays I think will always push my Berserk Button.

Loved this article on the playing of God Bless America at baseball games. It hits on all the things that drives me nuts about it: It equates religion with patriotism, it causes other people to demand absolute fealty, and it's just not a very good song.

The stress is really being laid on pretty thick this week and it's only Tuesday.  I am so tired today.
Unfortunately, the anecdote is my newly-pedicured toes in the sand and a cabana boy bringing me fruity drinks with umbrellas in them.  Not happening without a sugar daddy.

This weekend, I'm going to see the Mythical Creatures exhibit at the Frazier History Museum.  This place is wonderfully amazing.  The permanent exhibit is a massive collection of arms from different eras and regions throughout history.  It never really gets old to tour the museum.  The last exhibit I saw there was the Princess Diana exhibit.  What a lovely human being, inside and out.  As a girl who loves stories about dragons, unicorns, and fairies, this exhibit should be great.

Because I feel the need. (Courtesy of Surly Jacob at lakingsnews.com)

Our Kings, these defending Cup Champ Kings, who art on home ice,
Hallowed be thy game.
Thy Kingdom can come when thy wills be done,
In this game, as it has been in so many others.
Give us this day all the goals Quick needs, and forgive us for dropping two on the road,
As we pretend to forgive Dave Bolland for being a reckless a$$hole.
And lead past this third game and past this third round. Past these smarmy f**k Hawks.
And deliver us a win.
Amen.
