Being Nic Cage
Ahhh Nicolas Cage. You either love him or you hate him, it seems. Personally, I love him. Of course I do - because he's strange, and he's crazy, and he's awful and awesome, and he's wonderful all at once.

Being Nic Cage PhotoThe thing about Nic Cage is...he's always Nic Cage. He doesn't really ever get lost in his character. I'm not sure if that means he's not believable, or if he's just so unique in his acting (and overacting) that he won't let you forget it's him. When Nic plays a character, the character becomes him, rather.

Anyway, I think this will be a whole different kind of challenge than Tom Cruise, Kevin Costner and Tom Hanks were, because we'll need to completely clear our minds of how Nic portrayed the character in any given movie and put someone else in there either with their own personality or imagine the personality we think the character should have had instead and place someone in there we think would have done it better.

Recast Nick Cage with anyone else in anything he's been in. Maybe you think someone else would be just is good or better, or maybe you just want to see a different perspective.

Just pick a movie and recast. If the one you want isn't here, use it anyway! Again, I don't *think* cartoon voices really work here but hey...whatever floats your boat.

If you're casting for the 'quirk' factor, you could probably plug Steve Buscemi into most of these roles. As I said in the Kevin Costner thread, I don't look at movies and say "This would be better if _____ had been in it". I celebrate Nic for his Nicness.

I think in order to do this one, I'm going to need to think of someone who seems like his complete opposite to cast in one of his most "Nic Cage"-iest movies, purely for entertainment value. But it's going to take some thinking.

(I love pretty much everything he's in, no matter how awful, but Matchstick Men is probably my favorite.)

Looking at that list, with the exception of Snake Eyes and 8MM, I really could watch them all again right now. I've seen some sooo many times. He can't be recast in Raising Arizona or Guarding Tess, so hmmm...Kick-Ass starring Angelina Jolie. lol

The only one I could think of was GONE IN 60 SECONDS......and I would put in Vin Diesel because of all of the Fast and The Furious movies......and that may be reaching a tad?

Nah I don't think it's reaching. Nic's difficult to replace!

Just for fun let's say....
National Treasure - Woody Harrelson
Honeymoon in Vegas - Timothy Olyphant
Sourcerer's Apprentice - Paul Rudd
Season of the Witch - Bradley Cooper

Since there is no way I could seriously replace him in anything, I went as random as I could. Hush.

No one and I mean no one including Nic Cage could have saved Kick Ass in my opinion.  What a truly dumb movie.  Maybe casting someone like Paul McCrane from his robocop days would have been a slight improvement

Look it up when you can.  I can't wait for it to come out.  (FYI, there is some language on the trailer, depending on which version you come across. )

I have some language myself.

random...there's production for a Fast and Furious 7. This is OOC and I love it.

Language?  You?  Get out of here.

(I only stated that, in case you were in a place that would be shocked to hear such verbs.   Or, are they adjectives and nouns?)

Wow, so you and I may be the only two who admit we like these movies (F&F). Amazing how the two of us produce such high box-office numbers.

Whaaaaaat?! I friggin LOVE the F&F franchise! I didn't like Tokyo Drift so much but I liked the dude that was in it that moved into the other movies relatively seamlessly. Ash...have you seen the 6th one yet? All I'm gonna say is...the very end (might be in the credits) is going to make you REALLY excited for the 7th.

I saw the end of 6 and felt like a kid at Christmas.  And then I got mad b/c I have to wait.

#nopatience

And I cast Daniel Craig in the National Treasure franchise.

Most people who love movies are quite snobbish when it comes to the F&F movies. trust me, I've gotten a lot of flak for being a fan, from people who will fawn over any movie about British Royalty (usually yawnfests).

But, the character Han died in Tokyo Drift, then he showed up in Fast and Furious (4th movie) with no explanation. I don't want to spoil anything for anybody, so I will say no more.

See and then those of us who love the films and follow them closely know it all comes together and is explained at the end of 6 cheeky(and, I didn't really care for 4..it didnt' really tie in much with the rest of the movies, so it's the only one I will probably never own)

My two most favorite Nic Cage movies are Gone in Sixty Seconds (I heart Eleanor) and I could only see (with a stretch) Paul Walker in that role, although he is too baby-faced,  and The Family Man.  I could see Johnny Depp doing that one.

And I am seriously addicted to the F&F movies.  I cried when Han was killed.  I mean really, really cried!!!!  And it wasn't even one of the main story movies!!
I also cried when Jesse died in the first one, but not as hard, cuz I saw that coming a mile away.....
