Jess's Question of the Day: 7/22
So I decided to name the poll Question of the Day again - for some reason "Daily Q" seems to require more of a regular commitment than Question of the Day. I don't know why - it's all psychological.

The news of Dennis Farina's death this morning (RIP), brought up a question that I may have asked before, but it's been long enough ago that I can't remember your answers and I'm sure there are some new people to answer..and recent people to add. For whatever reason; whether you felt like you knew them personally or just enjoyed their work, etc. - which celebrity death has bothered you the most?

I don't think I had ever really been bothered by one. The only time I was really sad was James Gandolfini, at least that I can remember right now...

Oh, and I had to pause for Bernie Mac, Tupac, and Nate Dogg.

Aaliyah Haughton, the original baby girl, met her and her mother during a charity event in Harlem when my kids were teenagers, still have the picture of all 3 of us:

I cried when Heath Ledger died...and Brittany Murphy bothered me - I loved her so much. Then James Gandolfini. Ugh.

And I don't care how they died; whether it was natural causes, accidental, drugs, or what. I know Ledger and Murphy were drug related but just because they were a little messed up doesn't make their death less tragic, IMO.

I usually don't put all that much thought into celeb passings etc but one of my favorite TV characters overall was Tony Soprano and i enjoyed the whole Soprano's Series , so i was saddened to hear about the death of Gandolfini who for me is always tony or tone.

OH Bernie Mac! Aww that one made me so sad too. I actually remember exactly where I was and what I was doing when I heard that one.

barbaro. cried my brains out.

#7 | 457 days ago

I wouldn't say I've ever been bothered by a celebrity passing. Usually it's just a few minutes of oh that's too bad if I'm a fan of their work, then it's back to living my life

what is that?

Gandolfini.  And Corey Monteith.  I'm a baby Gleek, and Finn is my favorite character.

For the most part, what Stoney said. Closest to feeling otherwise for me was George Carlin.

I think athletes/drivers and sports figures count too...especially since you're not really huge on movies and television

How old were you when he died? I'm pretty sure I think he's been dead my entire life.

Then the answer is Dan Wheldon. It's been almost two years and the wound is still a little raw.

I think the only one I was bothered by was Rodney Dangerfield.   I was sad when I heard about it but after I read a bio of him it bothered me.  quite a tough life.

What astonished me was when Jackie Robinson died, I heard a kid ask me " who was he" and this was in 1975 when he died---I so wanted to punch his lights out but he was a like a 4th or 5th garder and I was like freshman in HS

#21 | 457 days ago

I live about a mile away from Barbaro's final resting place.  His ashes are interred at Churchill Downs.

I remember being upset when Kurt Cobain committed suicide, when I was 12.

It's hard for me to empathize and feel sorry for the families of these multi-millionaire celebrities, when there are so many people who lose their loved ones and get nothing out of it.

Last year many old time legends passed on (Dick Clark,Jack Klugman,Ernest Borgnine).
Also when I vacationed in Aruba,June 2001 TV and movie icons Carroll O'Connor and Jack Lemmon died, when I cruised to Cozumel MX January 2009 Ricardo Montalban visited 'Fantasy Island'.
I always remember  when comedian John Candy passed,my fav. radio station played 'Laughing' by the Guess Who, both big acts were from Canada.

I cried when I heard Adam Petty had died. Such a great kid and now we will never know what he could of done on track. For"celebrities" it's purely selfish mourning,  they aren't here to entertain me anymore and that is very upsetting.

Athletes are celebrities, right? Bigger celebs than actors, really.

Oh, k. It read like they weren't initially included. I was confused...not a surprise, I know.
#28 | 456 days ago

Maybe not the fact she died, but the way Princess Diane died really bothered me.  That was also the day, in my mind at least, that the term paparazzi really became a four letter word.

oh you stop. barbaro was the kentucky derby winner in 2006? broke his leg in the next leg of the triple crown series thing and well. you can probably figure out the rest from there. espn covered it so heavily...even did a segment with that awful googoo dolls "better days" song weeping in the background. i'm telling you i cried and cried.

Nick__ (+)

Since I have a condition called Nickolitus (according to Dr. JSwolush), I cry when anyone dies. Hell, i cry all the time even when someone doesn't die.   laugh  cheeky

The only way it bothers me if the actor/actress death is sudden or by accident (car/plane,etc.), if they die because of drugs, alcohol or some type of known disease then that doesn't bother me as much.

Meh - that's my fault. I didn't initially think about including them but it definitely makes more sense.

I may remember a broken leg, but I doubt it. You're adorably adorable.
