I agree, Bleh.

So tired of being lied to.  What's wrong with telling the truth?  Afraid you might have to take responsibility for your actions?  If I do something wrong, I own it, I apologize, if warranted, and I correct my actions.  Can't stand this stupid blame game that is going on around me.

Raining.  It isn't helping this bleh mood.  Wish the pool would re-open, then I could get all wet in a good way.

Happy October.

Friend got back from being a pall bearer at G-Pa's funeral last night, now he is the only one of the 4 who doesn't have the flu.  Wife has it the worse, both kids are just coming out of it.

Opening day of the 2013-14 NHL season is tonight on NBCSN.  The HAWKS vs The CAPS.

Here is the 2013 Cup Ring that was made, this one is Jonathan Toews.  Each player will have their own name and number on their ring (obviously).

My daughter is testing my patience.

My shoulders/upper back/neck are so tight right now I can barely move. That is not an exaggeration - it's been that way since Sunday. I need a masseuse or Xanax or something.

Have you tried Lobelia or St Johns Wort tea? both all natural, no side effects, non addictive muscle relaxers.
Feel better soon.

All I'm going to say about the shutdown is no matter what the actual total of people that have been furloughed is, no one else in American gives a flying crap. We do not matter to them. Half the country overtly thinks we are useless parasites. The other half essentially thinks it but doesn't say it. Do not try to convince me otherwise. I will not believe you.

I think you live too close to Washington DC. I've never once heard anybody call anybody who's being furloughed parasites. I hear it a lot about people who are getting gov. assistance, but not about people who work for the government.

I'm sorry this is happening, and according to my entire FB timeline, so is everybody I know.

Eric,

Please clear up something for me.
Do Government employees receive back pay when they are furloughed?
I believe you have said no.   Bozo's on the internet are saying that you will.

Jess,

Is your husband going to receive his pay on time?  If not,  does he or doesn't he (military) receive back pay at some point when a budget is passed?

The Dolphins were awful last night against Drew B and company.  Rob made me spit my drink when Miami finally scored and made it 17-35.   He said "Look babe, a touchdown!  They're halfway there!  It could happen!"

I reminded him there is no #13 on the field anymore and that happening was not only highly unlikely, but laughable.
I think it's cute when he pretends to like football for me.   I haven't checked to see if Jason wrote an article or not.
Just in case he did not and needs incentive,  I'll throw a hail Mary.

I wouldn't say parasites. Most government employees I've had to deal with get paid twice as much as they should to do half as much as they could.

Apparently Congress passed and Obama signed a military pay bill of sorts that said the military/DOD will be paid as usual during the shutdown. However, even if I'm confused about that, we also received notification from USAA that they will advance military members' pay on a 0% loan to be paid back when the members receive back pay after this mess is over (and they will have received back pay if this bill didn't go through.) I think Navy Fed CU is doing the same thing for their people.

I inadvertently started  a civil war / flame war amongst SEC Who Dats last night that spilled over to twitter at one point where everybody finally calmed down about their respective NCAA affiliation and we all got a nifty French lesson. Seriously SEC, especially YOU Bama, we're gonna have to ask you to take it down about 5 or 6 notches. Thanx.

Leigh hula hooping on the Today Show should be a regular segment. It was sublime.

Why didn't we ever get the FULL back story behind Walter and the Gray Matter couple? She and Walt had a thing right? I guess? idk? I also like the Breaking Bad analogy that it was like a video game with all kinds of puzzles, violence and bosses at the end of every level. Ha, I love that! Brilliant theory.

For example: The last scene is like the player's perspective in a GTA death with the cops moving in etc.

Do you have any data on that at all? It's assumed to be true (thus the parasite comment), but the data from what I've seen has never been conclusive. Either way, I'm not apologizing for having the one employer that, for now anyway, isn't participating in the race to the bottom.

Also, while I can only speak for myself (and the fact that anecdotal evidence is bull****), but I'm in an industry where I could most definitely make more in the private sector. The stress and the aforementioned race to the bottom make it not worth it to me.

If you're saying the government is an employer that isn't participating in the race to the bottom, I call BS. You obviously haven't seen what the majority of the military gets paid.

Oh my sweet baby jesus I can't handle the idiocy and widespread panic among Coastie wives on my FB news feed right now.

I don't know if they just didn't think to ask their husbands or research what might happen to us if the government shut down or weren't paying attention to the warnings, or what. I do know that most of them haven't read anything about how it would affect us. I lost count of how many people I've corrected from my friends' list who are freaking out that OH MY GOD, MY HUSBAND HAS TO GO TO WORK AND PROTECT OUR COUNTRY AND HE'S NOT GETTING PAID! I was going to post something on my own page about it but realized that I already HAD posted things over the past couple of days showing what would happen and obviously nobody reads my ish.

Educate yourselves, ladies, and if you still feel the need to vent/cry/rant, then by all means do so. Find out what's really going on though before blasting everyone with panic.

(It's no secret I don't fit in with these women...here's just one more example why.)

Agreed.  A friend of mine was freaking out this morning because her deployed husband wouldn't get paid until the back pay checks started rolling out.  Right after the news stated that the military checks were still rolling out.

It's so crazy! I found out last night around 8:00-ish I think? That Obama was signing that Military Pay Bill - and it was on an official news FB page, but I vetted it anyway just to be sure. We knew before the shutdown that we'd be covered. And actually I think last week is when the military credit unions/banks announced they'd be covering us if the govt. wouldn't...ordinarily I could understand people being a concerned, but the information has been out there.

For someone or some family of someone who has or is currently serving our country to have to even worry for 1 min about getting paid by the government they are fighting for is ridiculous in itself and shows the levels of lows out government has gotten too. And i know they should search for info before freaking but at same time its such a pill of ****.

Its f'n embarrassing enlightened

And had to figure a big portion would be mostly uninformed and freaked as soon as the shutdown was made official.

Agreed, on both counts.

I keep forgetting that most people want all of their information spoonfed to them rather than actually going to look for it - maybe the military commands should have made little packets of information on what would and could happen in this case for the families of the enlisted.

Fine. Sorry. I let my frustration and all the terrible things I think about myself and others that I'm trying to push aside in the long run get the better of me. I'll crawl in my hole and not come back, which I know is what everybody wants.

I'll be fine, but I have friends who have mortgages and families to support. Even if you think they're overpaid, please acknowledge they don't deserve this and it could end very badly for them. They're who I'm worried about, and unfortunately, I still suspect most of the country is A-OK with that (see: Stoney).

Laurel, to answer you question, those deemed essential will get back pay, because I'm pretty sure they can't be legally denied that. The rest of us, deemed non-essential (which is wonderful for your self-esteem btw), are at the mercy of Congress to give us the back pay. You can probably guess how that will end.

Yeah, I get being frustrated and I hate that this is happening to anyone, including you, but read your first post. Now. It's self-inflicted hatred. No one attacked you, no one said anything, and you gave no one a chance to say anything. I actually was going to say something to you today and then I read that, and was like WTF, f**k it.

Woe is you right now, so if you were simply venting, it would have been completely okay and understandable, but that's not what you are doing. You are using this political bs as a platform for self-loathing. FFS
#48 | 354 days ago

I don't think the country is A-OK with any of this - people know...and are PISSED...that this is going on whether it affects them or not. They KNOW innocent people are suffering from this and they're not happy about it. I've seen multiple things just today, driving people to help in some way.

I'm not sure where that assumption is coming from.
