Third!

Hello out there in FanIQ Land, this past week has been a roller coaster.  First the bad, Friday my mother was coming home from a funeral home paying her respects to friends of hers whose mother passed away at the ripe old age of 99.  She decided to make dinner and invite the friends down, we've known the family for years.  Right outside the funeral home she was turning back onto the main street when some guy ran a red light speeding and T-boned the back of her car...10 year old Chevy Malibu that still looked nearly brand new is now totaled.  She is okay overall, but had to get stitches in the back of her head from where her seatbelt cap broke off and cut her.  She will be getting another car shortly, rental until then, but I also need a car within the next month myself.

That's where the good news comes in, last Wednesday I received a call that I was offered a new job in the northern suburbs of the city, a lateral transfer and same pay rate, but a new opportunity.  I gave my resignation letter to my boss yesterday and as of Jan 10 I will never have to look at her face again as long as I live!  I will be working at a hospital within the same healthcare system, but there is much more room to advance in this new position working for the admissions team.  I'll miss most of the people I work with, but at the same time I'm excited to finally GTFO!laugh

Aloha,

-It’s raining and almost 50 degrees.  High of 55 tomorrow.  Sure doesn’t feel like December.  Where’s my snow, damnit?

-The Bulls…..sigh.

-Dinner last night consisted of leftovers – lasagna, chicken a la swol, and beef stroganoff.  It was all muy bueno.  I have a football game tonight so it’ll most likely be leftovers again.  Boom!

-Watched most of Cloud Atlas last night.  So far, so good.

-Finished season 4 of Eastbound and Down….and now I’m being accused of being cocky like Kenny Powers.  WTF?  I’ve always been cocky.

-I need a new laptop.  Any suggestions?  I’m looking to spend in the $500-$1200 range.

-The Amazon drones sorta fascinate me, but I’m not sure there’s anything I need in less than a half an hour….unless they decide to deliver Potbelly sammiches.  I was listening to 720 instead of my normal sports talk on the way home yesterday and they were discussing said drones.  Some guy called in and told his “attack” story.  Dude got all cut up due to a malfunctioning drone.  I laughed so hard I almost fell out of my seat on the train.

-Ash, Oreo 5s or 4s?

Johnny, get the MACBOOK AIR  (no physical hard drive so no hard drive crashes, which are the #1 thing to go wrong with any computer)……if you are not a smart investor, than look into the Sony Vaio's.

I'm really surprised, but, again, not really, at the amount of immaturity that I see, on a daily basis, from people…..What in the hell is wrong with people?  I'm tired of being around people that remind me of being in High School again.. Why can't people grow up already…..smh!

Or is it that I have higher standards for people than I really should?  hmmmmm

I second Nick's suggestion, I have a Macbook Air right now, bought it last January and I love it.  HP was awesome, but this Mac is just that much better.

Sell me on the Macbook Air.  I'm not really a fan of Apple products.

TIA

Got a much needed financial windfall this morning and looking forward to NCIS and Sons of Anarchy episodes tonight.  All I can say after watching last nights NFL game, is thank goodness if my Broncos do make the Super Bowl, that they won't have to play the game in Seattle.  Saints offense looked like they got lost somewhere along the way to the game.  I truly hope the experts will quit comparing Russel Wilson, RG III and even Andrew Luck soon because the kid in Seattle is head/shoulders ahead of the other 2.

JD I got my first MAC in 1984 so the Mac Book Air would be my choice (really powerful, incredible retina display, awesome battery life, etc.) but there's also the Lenovo IdeaPad. The new ones are tablet hybrids, but they are still pretty damn great and have HD+ display. (3200 X1800 <--!!) They'll both run about $999-1200 depending on the screen size and memory. Those are the two best bang for the buck imo.

Really?  Sell you?  HA!  I don't work for Apple any longer, pahtna…… wink

Ok, so, the MAC AIR is much slimmer and lighter than any computer > 2.38 lbs

Flash Drive, so, no spinning hard drive to crash.

Longer battery life than PC's.

MAC's have a very low, if any, futility rate when it comes to spyware and viruses…….why? because a majority of computer users own Windows' based PC's….Hackers are more interested in harming a majority of users and the cost to create viruses for the MAC Operating system is much higher $$ and takes longer due to it being a Unix based system.  You don't have to worry about buying all of that anti-virus and spy ware.

MAC's will warn you if you are going to a site that may harm your computer….it does it automatically, not like PC's in which you have to purchase anti-virus software to get that warning.

MAC's auto-detect any home based printer…..you don't have to try and find the CD that came with a printer or go to a site to download anything…….well, unless the printer is from the 90's, then, maybe.

Retina display is better than anything out there.

1.3 ghz, dual-core Intel Core I5 processor (Turbo boost up to 2.6 ghz) with 3mb shared L3 cache.

4GB of 1600mhz LPDDR3 onboard memory.

The only down sides are that there is no DVD DRIVE (you would need to buy an external one if you even use that drive) and the cost….but what people don't realize is that a majority of these computers last 2x as long as a Windows based PC and you don't need to buy annual virus and spyware software……it's more, upfront, but less, in the long run.

Here is the link to the tech specs that I listed as well as the pricing and options for screen size and hard drive size.  MAC AIR

If you want to meet up some day to have me look them over with you at an Apple store, just let me know.

PS - If you do buy one, get it at APPLE, and NOT Best Buy or anywhere else…..they (non Apple Stores) are clueless about Apple computers……Also, i recommend getting the Apple Care (2 yr warranty)….you have 1 year to decide, but, it's worth the money in case something does go wrong that you didn't cause.

I switched to Apple, 8 yrs ago and I was skeptical and aggravated at first, but, it was the best move I have ever done. I still use that same computer….8 yrs later and its a Laptop……..how many PC Laptop users can brag about that (without having it re-configured or have new parts swapped out)  wink

I have saved sooo much money on additional software, my computer NEVER crashes….I don't get the blue screen of death or have my computer restart itself on it's own while in Excel or on the internet…..or at any time.

Oh. New show guilty pleasure that I really don't feel very guilty about at all... The Originals. Assumed I would hate it because I hate Vampires Diaries, but man that's good tv. I look forward to it now. Love surprises like that. If Stoney was a Hybrid with a British accent, he'd be this dude (uh, in attitude only. he's a butthole): I tried to find the fight scene gif but couldn't so enjoy. I love the song too. Man, I'm gonna watch this episode when I get home now.

It was 65 degrees yesterday.. 57 at noon today. 4 hours later and it's a balmy 27 and falling.
While JSwol's looking for snow, we're supposed to get 6-12" overnight through tomorrow (that's what she said) while the mountains will be getting multiple feet. Oh, and the best part? We won't see temperatures over 20 degrees until Sunday. Bravo, gang, bravo

I don't have much else. Avs don't play until Thursday, I worked 17 hours yesterday with an hour workout squeezed in the evening and may have to pull the same stunt tonight. I will do my Armchair for the week though at some point tonight

What else? Oh, I blew my facebook Paul Walker status update too early on Saturday. "Fast and the Furious 7: Too Fast Too Fiery" evidently following real time news updates is not a common thing as most people didn't get the news until Sunday

I was considering going gluten free for a month. Then realized that's an awful idea

Best of luck to Jim Johnson as he heads to Oakland, part of the A's apparent initiative to acquire ALL THE RELIEVERS.

The board was pretty easy, but just had my highest score of the Jeopardy season so far, so woo.

Over the Thanksgiving break, I read this book about Jonestown. The week before was the 35th anniversary, and it's always fascinated me, so I bought a copy. Harrowing doesn't begin to describe it. The easy belief that Jones's followers were brainwashed idiots is just not true. Most of them wanted equality and peace (many African Americans were drawn to Jones when seeing integrated choirs and pews, a very rare sight in the 50s and 60s when Jones was beginning). Sadly, they were being led by a charlatan who went increasingly mad and paranoid, while becoming more addicted to drugs. The things Jones did to keep people in line are beyond awful.

Of course, my cynical mind started wondering how many other preachers don't actually believe in the religion they preach (by the 70s, Jones had abandoned all pretense of Christianity and claimed to be an atheist, and God at the same time). It's probably not as high as my cynical self would say, but I bet it's a significant number.

Between Evangeline Lilly, Richard Armitage, Orlando Bloom, Benedict Cumberbatch, and Luke Evans, the hotness factor for The Desolation of Smaug is out of this world.

Yep.  Watson plays Bilbo and Cumberbatch is Smaug, the dragon.  How appropriate that he should be able to breathe fire.
