the closing ceremonies were so great! what a fantastic sense of humor the director had to change the choregraphy for this gem:

and for some reason the main theme repeated in the overture is the song "giant" which goes,
this land is texas,
lonestar state of texas.
this is the giant
land i love.

which i especially liked since i'm from there.

i ran 7.25 miles saturday and the only reason i stopped was because my route took me home. i'm pretty sure i could have gone longer. can't wait to see this saturday!

this made my whole weekend:

Ugh. Man that's a sad one. His IMDB is phenommenal. On top of what you listed: he also directed episodes of The Office, Analyze This, National Lampoon's Vacation. He wrote Meatballs, Back to school, etc. and was the head writer for SCTV.

From the late 70's to the early 90's he owned it. That's basically the 6th grade through college for me. :(

***Edit*** Almost forgot...
He worked a lot with John Hughes over that same time period.
So basically, right now, me thinking about my childhood is

I was considering watching The Breakfast Club, but I just can't bring myself to commit to it.

I finished season 2 of The Wire. Still don't love it.
Sons.........................................................................................
I watched the first 2 eps of Parenthood last night/this morning. I enjoyed them a lot.
Oh, finished season 2 of Justified, too. love this show.

Breakfast Club is basically a period piece at this point. It's REALLY dated, but probably worth the update like we talked about last week. That reminds me, here's my remake short-list that Stoney and I may need to turn into a deeper post:

Taps (Weirdly relevant again)
Stand by Me (Remade and SET in the 80s, instead of the 50's, to draw on that nostalgia which is mainstream-ish now.)
Risky Business (Maybe the mom from Modern Family as the DeMornay character giving it a Mrs. Robinson feel?)
Heathers (The ending right? Hmmmm.... ripped straight from the headlines.)
Three O'clock High / My Bodyguard (They're about bullying!!!! Bullying!!!!!!! Throw in the social media aspects and voila.)

The Wire's seasons 3 & 4 are the "money' ones imo... maybe I'm wrong, but they are really what sets the series apart. Season 2 was a tangential plot line.

Justified is way under the radar even though it's got a pretty substantial following & critical acclaim. I don't get it?

Ash....you HAVE to see The Breakfast Club...I promise you...you'll like it better than "Airplane!"

Afternoon Q'ers!  After a beautiful, 60 degrees both days weekend, the cold has come back.  It is now about mid 40's, going down into the 20's tonight and snow possibly for Wednesday and lows in the teens.  STOP SNOW!

I have a refrigerator in the garage that, on Super Bowl Sunday (or sometime before) decided to conk out.  The ribs, home made pot pies, fish, chicken were all ruined.  Got a spare fridge from in laws, put that out there, and last week....ITS freezer died...coincidence?  I think not.  I looked on line for a solution, and people said because it was so cold, the fridge thermostat got tricked into not making the freezer run.   We went out for 4 hours last Monday, left the fridge doors open (on both), and when we came home 4 hours later, BOTH FREEZERS WORKED!  SO, for those of you in really cold climates, fridges in unheated garages don't hold up well.

RANGERS, the GREAT team, resume against the Blackhawks on Thursday...hopefully, the REAL hockey will be entertaining.

Here's today's pic....

Have a GREAT Monday!

I love The Breakfast Club

I think we may have found a house. We've seen pics, checked out all the specs, etc. etc. etc. and so on...keep your fingers crossed that this is the one, and it doesn't take too long to close if we are in love with it IRL as we are on the interwebs (it's a short sale). We've seen a few catfish houses so far, so we need some luck.

He didn't, and really he needs not to be riling me up today..

Jess, about that other thing: I think deep in his grinch's heart he knows he is wrong, cause we have so many fabulous hockey fans right here in the LR: Ms. Becky, beans, Mr Jonathon, Dave, Nick, that other guy that doesn't come around much anymore, Sid, marcus, YOU, Debi and it bothers that he is wrong so much of the time, but odds are, one day Eyeore will be right, and we can celebrate then with him....

hokay. i read the entire alec baldwin swan song and have a few thoughts on it.

1 - it totally reads like something nick_ would write (by the way, where is he?).

2 - it's over-explanitive(?) about his "ignorant" use of the word "queen," how he didn't say "f****t," and the behind the scenes unfairity of showbiz and living in the public light in general.

3 - it made me like him more.

4 - if he had left it at

"You’re out there in a world where if you do make a mistake, it echoes in a digital canyon forever.....We [used to] allowed people privacy, we left them alone. And now we don’t leave each other alone. Now we live in a digital arena, like some Roman Colosseum, with our thumbs up or thumbs down...." so f**k all of you no matter how you take your poking. i am going to live a happy normal life with my wife and new baby. peace out, a**holes

it would have gotten the message across better. less is more.

editing to add: for days like today, when i get a call from his teacher, telling me she is testing him for his annual ard. He has mastered 3rd grade reading and comprehension. May not sound like all that much, but considering he was 2.25 years behind at the beginning of the school year and is now only 1.6 years behind. He will be starting 4th grade  reading in 2 weeks and will have a month of it this summer, he surpassed our goals and his own. I am so proud. With the way he is going, he might just be a year or even less behind his peers come august and that is awesome...(im crying now, tears of joy)

I totally understood that.

I'm still on cloud nine, with chipmunk cheeks over Dale Jr winning the Daytona 500.  Nothing anyone can say at this point can possibly deter me from my happiness for him and his crew, family, friends and fans.  Last night he had 221K followers on an unactivated twitter account and tonight, with 6 tweets, retweeted hundreds of thousands of times, he has 457K followers.  Anyone who thinks the Dillon boys can possibly be the "next big thing" in NASCAR is seriously brain dead.

In any case, although I have had someone trying very hard to disturb my happiness recently, I am not about to give up and let them win.  I am looking forward to my future and no one is going to make me think otherwise.

Jess, I so hope this all works out for you!! So stocked to hear it and look forward to updates!

Enjoy your week, everyone :)
